Kenji had always liked the species. Regardless of its strength, its design—reminiscent of the legendary Monkey King, Sun Wukong—earned it a permanent spot on his list of favorites.

This was Kenji's hidden advantage: he had very few recorded matches on the senior circuit. His opponents knew almost nothing about his rotation or his Pokémon's specific capabilities. Winning the lead in the first round of a match was often enough to snowball into a total victory.

After a brief calculation, Tanya decided not to risk her monkey in a bad matchup. She recalled it and reached for another ball.
Kenji stayed quiet, keeping Gyarados on the field while he waited to see Tanya's next move.
"Come out!!! My darling! Lopunny!!"
Tanya threw the ball. With a soft pop, a brown figure landed gracefully on the field.
Lopunny, the Rabbit Pokémon. It possessed long ears that rivaled its own body length, with fluffy, cream-colored fur on its wrists, feet, and ear-tips. While its appearance was cute and elegant, its legs were built like coiled springs.

The black-scaled Arbok uncoiled in the center of the field. The moment it appeared, its vertical pupils locked onto the rabbit with a gaze full of cold, predatory malice.
"Let's show them the strength of our bond! My sweet! Lopunny!! Mega Evolve!!!"
Tanya wasn't taking any chances against the mysterious black snake. She raised her ring, the Key Stone erupting with light.
"LOPUNNN!!!! —"
Lopunny let out a soft cry, its hands clutching the pendant on its chest. Rainbow light flooded the arena, enveloping its form.
Seconds later, the light shattered.
Mega Lopunny had arrived.
Its stature had grown taller and more athletic. Its broad ears had split into what looked like long, flowing twin-tails. The fluff on its body had receded to reveal muscular limbs, and the fur on its legs now resembled torn black stockings.
Mega Lopunny was a transformation that stripped away the species' docile nature and replaced it with pure combat instinct. It was aggressive, short-tempered, and built for war. Its "twin-tail" ears functioned like whips, capable of delivering strikes with bone-breaking force.

Arbok let out a savage roar. Its eyes turned a deep, blood-red as its aura spiked with chaotic energy.
"Outrage???!"
"Did he just say Outrage?!"
"Can an Arbok even learn that move???!"
The crowd was dumbfounded. In all recorded Poké-history, the Arbok line wasn't known for its ability to channel draconic fury.
"Psychic Fangs!!"
Arbok hissed, its hood pattern shifting instantly to the Speed Pattern. It lunged to meet the rabbit.
"Fake Out!!"
"LOPUN!!"
Mega Lopunny lashed out with a lightning-fast palm strike.
