Chapter 302: Gyarados vs. Ursaring

As Kenji's voice rang out, Gyarados's massive form surged forward, proactively meeting the charging bear.

Realizing that even a 4x super-effective Thunder Punch was barely making a dent, Wang Xian was quick to pivot. He ordered Ursaring to abandon the elemental fists and rely on its raw, Guts-boosted physical power.
Ursaring let out a thunderous roar. The flames from the Flame Orb flared across its body, marking the deepening of its burn.

A Normal-type move with 70 base power—but if the user is afflicted by a status condition like a burn, its power doubles to 140.
Combined with the Guts ability and STAB, Ursaring's Facade was a nuke in physical form.

The power dynamic was clear. Gyarados seemed to be intentionally toying with its opponent—a cat-and-mouse game where the serpent enjoyed watching the "mighty" bear struggle pointlessly against its overwhelming might.
After several rounds of one-sided pummeling, Gyarados finally seemed to grow bored. Its playful cruelty vanished, replaced by cold, focused lethality. It let out a roar that seemed to shake the very foundations of the arena.

In an instant, Gyarados's expression twisted into something truly demonic. Fueled by Dark-type energy, its already terrifying face became a literal visage of a nightmare.

Combined with its nearly physical aura of malice, the move acted like a psychic hammer. Ursaring was momentarily paralyzed by pure, unadulterated terror, frozen in place as its fight-or-flight response short-circuited.
Seizing the moment, Gyarados coiled its body and put its entire weight into a final, crushing tail whip. A massive torrent of water spiraled around the limb as it smashed directly into Ursaring's face.

Ursaring was launched into the air, spinning like a top before crashing back into the dirt with a bone-shaking thud.
"Ursa..."
The bear lay prone in the crater, its eyes spinning in its head. The flame on its body flickered out as it lost consciousness.
"Ursaring is unable to battle!!! Gyarados wins the round!!"
The referee raised his flag, signaling the end of the first leg of the match.
The stands erupted into a cacophony of cheers and applause.
Wang Xian's expression was incredibly complex. There was the obvious frustration of losing his lead Pokémon, but beneath that was a look of profound respect. He stared at Kenji, amazed that a trainer so young could possess such a terrifyingly disciplined and powerful partner.
