"Chi-Chi, Kakarot—Bulma has already explained what a God of Destruction is. You should understand my responsibilities now, right?" Gran asked again.
Goku and his wife nodded vigorously. From Bulma's explanation, they now knew that a God of Destruction was a deity responsible for destruction within a universe.
"We are beings who stand high above all. To us, the crises of the universe are merely factors that drive its evolution. We do not interfere. The life and death of mortals mean nothing to us."
As he spoke, Gran carried little Gohan and walked outside.
Goku and Chi-Chi followed closely behind, their hearts growing heavier with every word.
"Chi-Chi, let me tell you a cruel truth. What if some of those so-called cosmic disasters… are actually caused by gods like us? What would you do then?"
"Big Brother Gran, what do you mean? Are you saying you would create such disasters yourself?"
Chi-Chi was still young, not yet worn down by life, nor were her beliefs rigid. Hearing this, her resolve began to waver.
"Yes."
Gran stepped outside. He glanced at Whis, then pointed a finger toward the ground.
"If a God of Destruction is in a bad mood… this might be the result."
Buzz—
A white beam shot out from his fingertip.
Whis's mouth twitched. He immediately understood—Gran was about to blow up Earth as a demonstration.
Without hesitation, Whis tapped his staff lightly, dispersing the protective power he had previously placed over Earth.
The next second—
Gran's energy pierced into the ground.
BOOM!!
The Earth exploded instantly.
In the pitch-black universe, it burst like a brilliant firework display.
Goku, Chi-Chi, and Bulma were all safely protected by Whis. They were completely unaffected by the planet's destruction.
But…
Everything had happened far too quickly.
Goku and Chi-Chi stood frozen in place.
"G–Goku… where's our home? Where's Earth?!"
Chi-Chi looked around at the endless darkness, then down at her feet—they were all suspended in outer space.
"It's… gone. Big Brother Gran destroyed it!"
Goku's voice trembled with disbelief.
"Then… what about my father and the others?!"
"They're dead! Master Roshi, Krillin… all of them are dead!"
Goku grabbed Gran by the shoulders, shouting,
"Big Brother Gran, why did you destroy Earth?!"
Seeing Goku's despair, Bulma didn't react much—because she knew Whis could restore everything.
"I'm only trying to show you this—sometimes, the 'peace' you see isn't true peace. If—"
Before Gran could finish—
Goku threw a punch straight at his head.
"Big Brother Gran, why?!"
"They're all dead—I won't forgive you!!"
Within the energy barrier, Goku launched relentless attacks at Gran.
"You're too weak."
Gran held Gohan in one arm while casually blocking every strike with the other.
"Chi-Chi, do you see now? Sometimes the dangers of the universe aren't caused by humans. If—"
Gran turned his head, intending to continue.
But...
Chi-Chi also charged at him.
"You killed my father—die!!"
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The sounds of fists colliding echoed within the barrier.
Facing both of them alone, Gran found their attacks no more than a mild annoyance—like being scratched.
Watching this, Bulma couldn't help but laugh quietly.
Serves you right for blowing up Earth, Lord Gran.
"Whis!"
Gran finally sighed and called out.
Whis suppressed a smile and waved his staff.
Under the power of time reversal, the Earth was quickly restored.
Everything changed in an instant.
Goku and Chi-Chi found themselves once again standing in front of their home.
Chi-Chi stopped attacking, her eyes wide with shock.
"Th-This… what just happened?!"
"..."
Goku didn't speak, but he was equally stunned.
Was it a wish made to Shenron?
But Earth had just been destroyed—shouldn't the Dragon Balls and Kami have been gone too?
"Goku, Mr. Whis reversed time. He's an angel—his power is even greater than that of Gods of Destruction like Gran."
As if reading Goku's thoughts, Bulma explained.
"This…"
Goku opened his mouth, but no words came out.
"Now can I finish speaking?"
Gran looked at the couple helplessly.
"In this world, there is always someone stronger, and beyond every sky lies another sky. The thoughts of gods are unpredictable. If they are displeased, they can destroy entire star systems."
"Like what I just did—this is power that comes from beyond Earth. Without sufficient strength, do you think you could survive something like that?"
Goku and Chi-Chi fell silent.
What they had just witnessed had shattered their understanding of the world.
Only now did they realize how fragile Earth truly was.
"Besides… Earth's peace isn't real peace."
Gran teased little Gohan in his arms again, his tone meaningful.
"In the future, even more crises will come for you."
He was referring to the Android crisis.
In Future Trunks' timeline, that was the harsh reality.
Because of Chi-Chi's dream of making him a scholar, Gohan neglected his training—
Lost an arm.
And ultimately died at the hands of the Androids.
This was someone who had the potential to be the strongest single warrior among the Z Fighters.
As fans once joked in his previous life—
"If Gohan didn't study, even Jiren would cry."
And yet, he died such a frustrating death.
And in Dragon Ball Super, there was even that "Nobita Gohan" version of him—
Getting toyed with by a few of Frieza's underlings.
Just thinking about it was infuriating!!
"Big Brother Gran… what exactly are you trying to say?"
Chi-Chi's eyes flickered constantly—her resolve was clearly wavering now.
"What I mean is…"
Gran handed Gohan back to her and said calmly,
"If one day Gohan were to lose his life because of this dream of becoming a scholar… would you be able to accept that?"
