The capital's great library was housed in a tower that had stood for a thousand years. Its shelves stretched into darkness, filled with books, scrolls, and artifacts from every era of the kingdom's history. The head librarian, an old woman named Elara, led them to a hidden chamber deep beneath the main floor.
"These texts have not been opened in centuries," Elara said, lighting a torch that cast dancing shadows on the walls. "They speak of a 'world between worlds,' of beings who could walk through time like water."
She pulled out a large leather-bound book and opened it to a page marked with a silver ribbon. The pages were filled with symbols identical to those Clara had seen on the First People's world.
"It's their language," Clara said, running her fingers over the page. "Lyra taught me some of it. Let me see if I can translate."
For days, they worked in the hidden chamber. Clara translated while Kai, Mara, and Alessandro studied the diagrams and maps that accompanied the text. What they found changed everything.
"The First People didn't just create the Heart of Creation," Mara said, pointing to a diagram of a vast network connecting worlds across the cosmos. "They built a web a way to share power, to balance it across all reality. When they fought their war, they damaged the web, and it's been unraveling ever since."
"The Keystone of Aether wasn't just a guard," Alessandro added. "It was a node in the web one of many scattered across the cosmos. If we can find the other nodes, we can begin to rebuild the web, to heal the damage at its source."
Clara looked up from her translation, her eyes bright with hope. "The texts say there are seven nodes total. We've found one on our world. Lyra's world holds another. The other five are scattered across different worlds each guarded by a keeper, just like Lyra."
Kai nodded. "Then that's our mission. We'll gather the keepers, rebuild the web, and restore balance to reality. But we can't do it alone we'll need help from every world we visit."
Elara smiled, though her eyes were serious. "Then the kingdom will stand with you. We'll gather scholars, healers, and warriors everyone who wants to help. We may not have your power, but we have courage and determination in abundance."
