Chapter 142 - Pulling Cards

That night, when it was Renjiro (Aether) and Bete's turn for the night watch…

"Pulling cards!"

"NI~CE!!!"

Sitting outside the dark-golden cabin, Renjiro couldn't help but emit that flashy, show-off feeling he remembered from some old legend.

Not gonna lie, the feeling of three draws in one day, now that his main body's favor level had increased, was truly satisfying.

In the past few days, in three days and nine draws, Renjiro had already obtained: three Black Tassel Spears, two volumes of Dragon-Slaying Hero Tales, a Cold Blade, a Traveling Sword, and even Xingqiu and Diona had been acquired.

Yes, finally, Renjiro now had Genshin characters with their Constellations activated.

For example, Xingqiu's first Constellation, Jinweaving Constellation – Layer 1: The Scent Remained, increased the number of Rain Swords generated during his Elemental Skill or Burst from three to four.

These Rain Swords not only helped the current active character deal Hydro damage but also reduced incoming damage and increased interruption resistance.

With Renjiro at Lv. 2 and Xingqiu having done one breakthrough, his passive talent Water Mastery Essentials activated. Each Rain Sword could now restore 6% HP to one character.

Though 6% alone isn't much, stacking four swords together?

One Constellation increased Xingqiu's attack efficiency and healing output by one-third.

In comparison, Diona's first Constellation, Special Brew – Minor Restoration, was more of a basic enhancement:

[Elemental Burst: Restore 15 Energy to Diona when the effect ends]

Considering her Burst requires 80 Energy, this was only slightly helpful until team rotations were fully optimized.

Then there was the freshly obtained Amber…

"Finally, I have a Pyro character!"

Renjiro couldn't help but smile.

Though she wasn't frequently used in the original game and was nicknamed "Mondstadt's #1 Pyro Archer" by players, she was one of Renjiro's favorites.

Among the initial trio in Genshin (Amber, Kaeya, Lisa), Amber was the only one he had fully leveled and fully constellated.

"Luck's on my side. Feeling really card-happy right now!"

He had even maxed her affinity immediately.

Now…

"For Amber, I've got a sub-stat Crit DMG bow (Sharpshooter's Oath) ready for her."

Renjiro had arranged things effortlessly.

The only element he hadn't yet pulled was Dendro, and having all six other elements already made his mood fantastic.

Even the werewolf standing nearby with his hands in his pockets and a "big boss" expression seemed a bit more agreeable to Renjiro.

Bete: ???

Speaking of Renjiro and Bete's relationship… it was subtle.

The first time they met, Bete outright called him a "Masked Bastard."

Although Bete had mellowed recently, especially after learning that the Twin Stars of the Firmament had reached Lv. 3, they still rarely spoke.

Tonight was no exception.

Renjiro and Bete's pair was the quietest.

All night, until morning, when the other six got up, they hadn't said a single word… literally.

Thus…

"Good work."

As Lumine dismissed the dark-golden cabin, the rock-element creation, and the team prepared to move again, Finn came up to Renjiro and said this.

The small-statured "Hero" of the Loki familia, Finn knew exactly what Bete's personality was like.

Even within the familia, few could get along with Bete.

Among his familia members, attitudes toward Bete ranged from admiration, fear, disgust, and resentment, often mixed in ways even Bete himself didn't fully understand.

Renjiro, however, knew Bete's past.

As a traveler from China who had seen the original series and had precognitive insights, he might even understand Bete better than Finn did.

But…

Given this guy's personality, anyone who tries to 'guide' him without sense is more likely to get kicked than helped.

Bete wasn't like Ais.

Though stubborn, Ais at least treated others politely… and was cute.

Renjiro was good with tsundere types but preferred not to get too close.

Being acquaintances was enough.

Still, as a comrade in adventure, Bete was extremely reliable.

He would never betray the team.

If anyone tried, it would backfire spectacularly.

Now…

"I was able to fight continuously with Lumine in the dungeon for seven days and nights. Two hours of night watch is nothing."

Renjiro said this casually, not realizing it sounded like a bravado exaggeration.

Fortunately, Finn didn't catch the underlying meaning.

After nodding, Finn began assigning the day's plan:

"Everyone, pay attention."

He slammed his Command Spear into the ground, drawing everyone's focus.

"Our goal today is to reach the 50th floor by nightfall and set up camp there. From the 39th floor downwards, danger increases, so I'll adjust the formation accordingly."

"Also… aside from Renjiro and Lumine, everyone should know to be extra careful when passing the 49th floor. Do not provoke Balor deep in the Moytura, move through quickly."

After speaking, not only Finn but even Riveria instinctively glanced at Ais.

Thankfully, after Lumine's "unprofessional counseling" the night before, she was truly fine now.

No more reckless behavior.
