Chapter 293: Updates from the City of Slaughter
In the City of Slaughter, at the Hell Slaughter Arena, Ah Du was watching as Hu Liena was caught in a tough battle below. Since both of their victory counts had reached 90, their opponents were mainly Soul Saints and even Soul Douluos, which made their victories much harder to achieve.
Over the past year, they had emerged from the Hell Slaughter Arena covered in countless injuries. They also had to be on guard against the assassins outside the arena, who targeted the wounded, wanting to eliminate them in advance so they wouldn't face them in the annual Slaughter Competition.
Fortunately, every time, they had managed to escape danger without much harm, and with the medicinal pills given by Ning Bei, they were able to recover quickly. This was also the reason they had been able to accumulate victories so rapidly.
The opponent Hu Liena faced this time was very troublesome. Three Soul Saints and one Soul Douluo-level Fallen Soul Master had teamed up to target her, hoping to kill her first and then fight among themselves for survival.
The little fox dodged the deadly attacks from the several opponents, planning to wait for the right moment to reduce their numbers first. Otherwise, if this continued, it would be her soul power that would run out first.
"Heh heh heh, little girl, what a pity you're dying here. But who told your momentum to be so strong?"
"Stop wasting time with her. This woman is dangerous. Let's finish her off quickly."
"Hmph, why rush? After she dies, we'll still have to fight among ourselves for survival. What, are you eager to die?"
"I only know that if we don't kill her, we'll be the ones to die."
The Fallen Soul Masters were not united in purpose; they had only joined forces reluctantly because of the little fox's power. And she had seized this opportunity, moving quickly around the arena to find a chance.
Sure enough, the opportunity came. As the group of Fallen Soul Masters argued among themselves, Hu Liena attacked the strongest one, the Soul Douluo.
Using her head spirit bone ability, a pair of peach blossom eyes glowed with pink light, causing the Soul Douluo to fall into a brief daze.
"Idiot, be careful!"
The cautious Soul Saint immediately warned the Soul Douluo who had been affected, but Hu Liena seized the opportunity and reached him, slamming a Spiral Sphere directly to his face.
Fortunately, the Soul Douluo managed to break free from Hu Liena's mental control. Though his movements were slow, he still raised his giant axe in time to defend.
"Bang."
The Spiral Sphere hit the back of the giant axe, creating a dull sound. The Soul Douluo's body trembled from the powerful rotation of the Spiral Sphere.
"Haha, you think you can sneak attack me? Not so easy."
Not hit, the Soul Douluo smirked, already seeing himself killing the Hell Messenger and then dealing with the three Soul Saints for the victory.
But when he looked up at Hu Liena in midair, he saw not panic, but a smile on her lips. This immediately sent a chill down his spine.
As expected, Hu Liena's fox tail spirit bone had extended and wrapped around the back of the Soul Douluo. The fur at the tip split into a palm shape, and a shiny soul power ball gathered inside, forming yet another Spiral Sphere.
"External Spirit Bone Combination Skill: Fox Tail Sphere."
The Fox Tail Sphere pressed directly onto the back of the Soul Douluo's neck. A sharp "crack" sound echoed, causing everyone present to feel a twinge of discomfort.
As Hu Liena withdrew, the Soul Douluo-level Fallen Soul Master collapsed, drained of all his strength and lifeless on the ground. He was dead for sure.
"This idiot, thinking about teasing a woman when his life was on the line? He deserves to die."
The cautious Soul Saint didn't feel any sadness over the death of the Fallen Soul Master. Instead, he was furious that it had become even harder to kill Hu Liena.
The remaining two Soul Saints were clearly shaken by this unexpected move. After a brief look at each other, they decided to go all out. Otherwise, if Hu Liena kept picking them off one by one, they wouldn't stand a chance.
With a cold smile on her lips, Hu Liena retreated to the edge of the arena. One-on-three was definitely easier than one-on-four.
Ah Du, watching from the stands, relaxed and sat down. He was confident in the upcoming battle. After two years of being together, the two knew each other well. These three uncoordinated Fallen Soul Masters wouldn't be much of a threat to Hu Liena.
As expected, Hu Liena, light on her feet, danced around the arena, defeating each of the three Soul Saints one by one, claiming victory in today's arena match.
After finishing the battle, Hu Liena came up to Ah Du on the stands and plopped down beside him, taking a few deep breaths.
"It's getting harder and harder. Fortunately, there are only nine matches left, then we can finally leave this damn place."
"Yeah, but the real highlight today is still with Tang San."
"I never expected that a mere Soul King could win ninety-nine victories in this Hell Slaughter Arena. It seems that Teacher and Young Master Ning's caution wasn't without reason."
Mentioning Tang San, Hu Liena's previously relaxed mood tightened again. She hadn't forgotten about the bloodline of Haotian Clan, which was still wandering outside.
"Do you think he'll wait for us to break through Hell's Path together? After all, the more people, the greater the chance of survival."
Hearing Hu Liena's words, Ah Du immediately shook his head without hesitation, rejecting her guess.
"With his cautious personality, he won't travel through Hell's Path with us. After two years, we still don't even know his exact location."
"You're right. Sometimes, enemies behind you are more terrifying than the ones in front. He'll most likely go through Hell's Path alone, but it's a pity he can't show us the way."
Upon hearing this, Ah Du gave Hu Liena a side-eye.
"What are you imagining? He won't be trying to trip us up. We should thank the heavens for that."
As the two conversed, Tang San slowly climbed onto the arena to face his opponents. The announcer's introduction made the audience aware that the Plague King was about to challenge his 100th victory in the Hell Slaughter Arena.
This time, his opponents were a lineup that made both Ah Du and Hu Liena nervous. Among Tang San's nine opponents, there were four Soul Douluos and five Soul Saints. From their eyes, it was clear that these Fallen Soul Masters planned to target the Plague King first.
"Heh, today let me see what this 100th victory killing god is all about."
"Don't get careless. Let's take him down together first. His poison and hidden weapons are really dangerous."
Tang San's gaze was cold as he swept it over the crowd. Compared to two years ago when he first entered, Tang San had grown much taller, and the childishness in his face had completely faded, replaced by a chilling demeanor. Once a Tang Sect assassin, he had been fully awakened by the Hell Slaughter Arena, and killing had become his instinct.
The only thing that kept him from being consumed by bloodlust was the still-missing Tang Hao. He was still waiting to ask him about what had happened all those years ago once he left this place.
