Chapter 296 - Chapter 8: The One Who Devours Magic

Emiya returned to his dorm and told Medea what had happened.

Medea didn't object.

Since Emiya wanted a fair deal, she wouldn't stop him.

If the deal failed, though, she might take some special measures.

There was no need to tell Emiya that.

The next day, Emiya didn't go out.

He stayed in the dorm to help Medea build the automaton.

They were planning to create a dragon a hundred meters long, so the dorm's space had to be expanded first.

Emiya walked to the southern wall, placed both hands on it, and pushed gently.

The wall moved backward.

Not physically.

From the outside, nothing changed.

He was expanding the internal space.

After pushing for several hundred steps, Emiya stopped.

The north-south length of the room now spanned two to three football fields.

Then he moved to the eastern wall and pushed again.

The east-west space began to extend.

After another few hundred steps, he stopped.

The once narrow dorm had become a massive open area, roughly the size of several football fields.

The height, however, remained unchanged.

Emiya lifted himself with telekinesis, pressed his hands against the ceiling, and stretched the space upward.

One hundred meters.

The dorm had completely transformed.

From an ordinary dorm room into a vast interior space.

Yet from the outside, it still looked exactly the same.

This was the effect of Emiya's newly developed Space-Space Fruit ability.

In addition to creating portals, he could now extend space itself.

It was extremely practical.

With this much room, building a giant dragon was no longer an issue.

Medea required many instruments.

After explaining her needs, Emiya created them, and the two worked continuously until afternoon.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Someone was at the door.

Emiya walked over, didn't open it immediately, and looked through the peephole.

Kimberly.

Only then did he open the door.

Kimberly entered without much thought.

Then her expression froze.

She realized the dorm was far larger than it should be.

For a moment, she thought her eyes were deceiving her.

She rubbed them, looked again, then turned around.

"What's going on here?"

"I'm planning to build a giant dragon," Emiya replied. "The dorm was too small, so I expanded it a bit."

A bit?

Kimberly's expression twitched.

This was far beyond "a bit."

"You can even do something like this?"

"Is there a problem?" Emiya asked. "It's just space expansion. If I remember correctly, the 'Golden Rose' of the Rose Division, Astrid Setto, has a magical circuit called Universal Flow installed in her automaton. It allows control over time."

He spoke slowly.

In any world, time control was an absurdly powerful ability.

Time was deeper and more mysterious than space.

Even Emiya couldn't control it yet.

Neither Loki, Hestia, Hephaestus, nor goddesses like Haruhi Suzumiya or Aqua could manipulate time.

Of course, while they couldn't control it, they also weren't affected by it.

They existed outside its influence.

Even so, Emiya wasn't interested in that magical circuit.

There were countless ways to manipulate time across countless worlds.

He would encounter one eventually.

There was no need to covet this particular method.

Kimberly raised an eyebrow.

"You even know about the Golden Rose's magical circuit. That's not something an ordinary person would know."

Before Emiya could answer, she waved her hand.

"Forget it. I'm not interested."

Emiya asked, "Why did you come today?"

Kimberly spoke slowly.

"You told Akabane Raishin to contact Shouko yesterday."

Emiya nodded.

"I did."

"Shouko contacted me today. She asked what kind of person you are. How should I answer?"

Emiya wasn't surprised.

In the original story, Kimberly and Karyuusai Shouko had a good relationship.

Whatever it was, they weren't enemies.

"Just tell her the truth," Emiya said.

Kimberly paused.

"The truth? Even your background?"

"Of course."

"Is that really fine?"

"What's wrong with it?" Emiya asked back. "Are you worried she'll target me after finding out who I am?"

Kimberly shook her head.

"That's impossible. Shouko isn't that kind of person. But what if the information leaks?"

"If it leaks, it leaks," Emiya said casually. "If this were a world where gods and demons walked around openly, I might be cautious. But there aren't even gods here."

He continued evenly.

"If I offend someone, at worst I bring a few helpers and take over the world. In other worlds, there are beings who can fight an entire country-or an entire world-on their own."

Kimberly fell silent.

"...I understand. I'll tell Shouko everything."

Emiya nodded.

"Tell her to come soon."

Kimberly rubbed her temples.

"I will."

After she left, Emiya thought he could finally work quietly with Medea.

But that evening, the academy erupted again.

The Magic Devourer had appeared.

Another automaton's magical circuit had been consumed.

The Magic Devourer was an automaton that hunted other automatons.

By absorbing their magical circuits, it could use their abilities.

It couldn't use multiple circuits at once, and its usage was limited.

Even so, the ability was dangerous.

Emiya remembered the owner.

The blond man who had spoken to Akabane Raishin yesterday.

A member of the Disciplinary Committee.

His name surfaced after a moment.

Felix.

Felix was the owner of the Magic Devourer.

He ordered it to attack other automatons.

His goal was to use Raishin to investigate the incidents and frame Charlotte.

The plan failed.

A side character trying to use the protagonist to frame the heroine rarely ended well.

Exposure and defeat were inevitable.

That was later.

For now, the Magic Devourer had attacked again, throwing the academy into chaos.

The disturbance even reached the teachers' dorms.

Kimberly knocked on Emiya's door again.

"Follow me."

Emiya nodded, left Medea to work alone, and followed her.

They arrived at what looked like a workshop.

Inside were several operating tables.

Broken automatons lay on top of them.

"Why bring me here?" Emiya asked.

"You're aware of tonight's incident," Kimberly said.

Emiya nodded.

"The Magic Devourer."

She pointed at the damaged automatons.

"These were all attacked by it. We professors are studying them to find the real culprit. As my assistant, you're supposed to help. Maybe you'll notice something we missed."

"Is that all?"

"Yes."

"Then I'll tell you now," Emiya said. "The owner is Felix. He's in the Disciplinary Committee. He attacks automatons so his own can absorb their magical circuits and use the abilities. Now that you know, go arrest him."

Kimberly stared at him.

"You knew from the start?"

"Yes."

"How?" She found it hard to believe.

The academy was in panic.

Even the professors had no leads.

Yet Emiya, someone from another world, knew everything-including the name.

"I have methods to see parts of the past and future," Emiya said calmly. "If you're willing to become my subordinate, I can share them."

Kimberly's eyes flickered.

"That's tempting. But later. Right now, the Magic Devourer matters more. Even if Felix is the owner, he's part of the Disciplinary Committee and one of the Night Party's Thirteen. We can't arrest him on your word alone."

Emiya recalled the plot.

"Then I'll give you an excuse," he said. "Felix has an assistant. A woman with a sharp tongue."

Kimberly understood immediately.

"Lisette Norton?"

Emiya nodded.

"That's her."
