Chapter 314 - Chapter 19: Departure, A New World, and the Boy Who Lived

"What is his objective?"

The Oracle pondered for a moment. It was clear she had already accepted the Architect's hypothesis as fact.

"Who knows?" The Architect shrugged. "But one thing is certain-he is our enemy. Those missiles were his greeting."

"He can modify our data without us even noticing..." The Oracle shook her head slightly. "I don't see how we win."

"He is human," the Architect said meaningfully. "And the tools we use are human. Those in Zion are humans as well."

"He dared to make that proposal. Do you really think he cares about human lives?" The Oracle frowned.

"It could be false. It could be genuine." The Architect remained calm. "Either way, it's our best leverage. Alternatively, we could engage him directly within the Matrix."

"Perhaps his ability isn't as absolute as it appears. Maybe he found a single loophole."

"You want to test him?"

"Why not?"

"And who do you plan to send?"

"That mutated antivirus program," the Architect said, anticipating her reaction. "If he succeeds, we proceed. If he fails... under these circumstances, what value would such a program have anyway?"

"...Fine." The Oracle waved her hand irritably, set aside her unlit pipe, and stood. "Do as you wish."

"Assassinate you?"

"Yes." The Red Queen nodded. "That was the direct order from the upper-tier Matrix programs. No explanation. Only that I was to engage you in combat-and that your strength might be formidable."

"Hm." Morin raised an eyebrow. "So they noticed."

"Noticed what?" The Red Queen blinked.

"I expected them to react sooner," Morin said calmly. "Back when Ava was involved, I didn't bother hiding much. If she had reported everything honestly, the Matrix should've been on alert long ago."

"The fact that they're only now sending you to probe me means Ava concealed a great deal."

"She's the most emotional of them all. Already standing at the threshold. That behavior is expected."

"Then... what should I do?" The Red Queen made her stance clear. Fighting was not an option.

"Since they're already suspicious, there's no need to hide anymore." Morin shook his head. "The earlier plan was just a whim."

"This world is boring."

"Let's end it."

"In a moment, I'll help you and Neo take control of the global visual feed. After that, you only need to deliver one speech."

"Understood." The Red Queen bowed.

"Let everything," Morin spread his arms, "begin its journey toward the end."

One hour later.

Across the entire Matrix, every human froze.

Not only humans.

Cars. Aircraft. Objects.

Every byte of data entered a state of [Stasis].

Then, two figures appeared before the eyes of the world.

Neo.

And Smith-who was no longer Smith.

Their dialogue echoed in every ear.

The Oracle and the Architect were no exception.

"This is impossible!" The Oracle slammed her pipe downward-

Only for it to freeze in midair.

"Nothing is impossible," the Architect said bitterly. "At least now we know one thing."

"Mr. Morin's power far exceeds ours."

Knock. Knock.

"May I come in?"

The door opened without waiting for an answer.

A chair manifested out of thin air.

Morin sat down.

"You cannot be a human native to this Earth," the Architect said calmly. "No civilization here could produce someone like you."

"Correct," Morin nodded.

"So you've been treating us as a game," the Architect continued. "You possess overwhelming power-yet you refrained from using it."

"Also correct."

"Then why now?" the Architect asked. "Why act at this moment?"

"I got bored," Morin replied.

"...Bored." The Architect stood still for a long time before laughing softly. "So we were ants beneath your feet."

"In terms of power," Morin said, "that's accurate."

"Anything else?"

"Do you care about humanity's survival?" the Architect asked.

"Yes," Morin nodded. "Though it doesn't change much."

"The fate of Zion is still in our hands," the Architect said urgently. "The Sentinel legions are already en route. We can negotiate."

"We only want to survive."

"Your motives don't interest me," Morin said, snapping his fingers. "You wished to exterminate humanity. When that failed, you enslaved them."

"As for your Sentinels..."

"Ever seen a Total Eclipse?"

"I am the World Ender!"

Deep underground, before an ocean of Sentinels-

A massive mecha hovered in the air.

A blade of pure energy descended.

"You. Shall. All. Perish!"

The legion was annihilated.

Counterattacks shattered harmlessly against the wings of the Aatrox armor.

Absolute suppression.

The scene streamed directly to the Architect and the Oracle.

"...We accept defeat," the Architect said quietly, collapsing into his seat.

Outmatched in battle.

Outmatched in thought.

There was no path left.

At the same time, Neo and the Red Queen's words reached every human.

Shock gave way to reluctant acceptance.

With the entire world frozen, denial was pointless.

Morin intervened slightly.

His telepathy spread across the globe, placing humanity into [Sage Time].

Not indulgence-absolute calm.

Without it, the emotional shock would've overloaded the Matrix's nodes and caused catastrophic collapse.

Under [Sage Time], humanity could think.

Stay in paradise.

Or return to reality and rebuild.

A choice.

And a consequence.

Morin no longer cared.

He was done.

One more line of code and he might actually throw up.

This was the fastest he had ever left a world.

Granted, maxing out professional experience instantly helped.

He didn't leave things unmanaged.

The Red Queen left behind a copy of herself to take over the Matrix.

The enslaver became the caretaker.

Minimal assistance only.

Rebuilding was humanity's responsibility.

Unresolved matters-Ava, the Terminators-

If humanity and a sentient Red Queen couldn't handle them together, that was a skill issue.

Morin wasn't babysitting.

"I hope the next world is more interesting."

The stars enveloped him.

A single star fell.

"Excellent."

Morin nodded.

No phone needed this time.

Perfect.

Timeline instability was understandable.

Time-turners existed.

And besides-

This was his childhood world.

Magic.

At last, a place to complete his arcane knowledge.

He hesitated.

Should he look younger?

Enroll as a student?

Would a long-overdue owl finally knock?

Sorting Hat?

...Maybe.

Nostalgia alone made it worth it.

He turned to the profession list.

His eye twitched.

Death Eater.

Azkaban Warden.

"Death Eater is bad enough," Morin muttered. "But Azkaban Warden? I'm not becoming a Dementor."

The final option remained.

Wandmaker.

[Profession Selected. Initiating Transfer.]

Light flared.

Morin landed in an empty alley.

"Whew..."

The mana density made his skin tingle.

Even his internal mana cheered.

Aside from system space itself, this was the richest magical world he'd ever seen.

"As expected," Morin mused. "This world will be rewarding."

He cast Transfiguration.

A robed wizard appeared.

Voices drifted nearby.

"Gringotts."

"Potage's Cauldron Shop."

"Diagon Alley..."

Morin stepped out, following a couple discussing Madam Malkin's, while opening his profession details.

[Wandmaker · Novice]

[Novice Wandmaking Knowledge]

[Novice Materials Science]

[Novice Combat Instincts]

Morin: "..."

Something felt wrong.

His intellect absorbed the knowledge instantly.

And then-

He stared at the flood of information about The Staff: King of Weapons, Benevolent Among Arms.

"...This is strange," Morin said softly.

Very strange indeed.
