The moment Yumi crossed Konoha's border, the distant shadow clone dissolved into white light. In the quiet of a pink-walled bedroom, the real Raven opened her eyes, a faint ripple of chakra passing through her as she felt the clone's memories return. Scrolls and ink brushes were scattered across her bed, sealing diagrams half-finished around her. On the windowsill, Yumi materialized from mist, tails swaying lazily before hopping down.
"How was the trip?" Raven asked telepathically, her lips unmoving.
Yumi's mental voice was dry. "You already know. You saw everything through the clone."
Raven gave a small, almost invisible smile. "True. Still, it's good to see you back intact. We've got a lot to prepare for. Let's get started."
The fox stretched out beside her as the room dimmed, the hum of sealing chakra filling the air. Days passed, then weeks, the quiet rhythm of study and experimentation consuming the pair until the seasons shifted.
A year later, the child sitting cross-legged in that same room no longer moved like a toddler. At two and a half years old, Raven's balance and precision rivaled that of a trained shinobi. Each morning she ran silent laps through the forest, her small frame wrapped in black training clothes. When her parents were busy in the kitchen, she created a shadow clone, and together with Yumi, it slipped away through the woods toward the concealed entrance to the underground training facility hidden deep within the Forest of Death.
The air grew heavy as they entered the sealed cavern. Inside, Riko waited—now wearing a jōnin vest, her crimson eyes gleaming under the torchlight. She knelt the moment Raven appeared. "Lady Raven. It's been too long. How have things progressed?"
"Everything's on schedule," Raven said, folding her arms. "In a few days, we'll begin construction on the Sanctuary's foundation by traveling to the land of Whirlpools using the teleportation seals beneath the Senju compound. Once it's complete, we'll move the children you and Mei smuggled out of Kirigakure."
Riko's expression tightened. "Good. The shelter's nearly full. The children grow restless, and my new jōnin duties make it harder to cover their disappearances. I've recruited five new kunoichi from Root—they're loyal, but Danzo's attention is shifting. If he notices my pattern—"
"He won't," Raven interrupted calmly. "Patience. His removal must be surgical, not reactive. Danzo's a small piece in a much larger mechanism. If we crush him too soon, the ones above him will scatter."
Riko bowed her head. "Understood, Lady Raven. I know better than to question your timing."
"Good," Raven replied, her voice softening. "That foresight is why you're one of the few I trust completely. The balance of this world will shift a few years. When it does, we'll be ready to shape what replaces it." She turned, the faint glow of her Rinnegan lighting the cavern walls. "Follow me. We're going to the Senju compound. The Sanctuary can't wait any longer."
They moved through the village under the cover of darkness. By dawn, they reached the silent courtyard of the Senju estate, where moss-covered stone lanterns framed a shrine to Mito Uzumaki. The statue of Hashirama Senju towered above the altar, serene and weather-worn.
Raven approached the statue, placing her hand against the third toe of its left foot. A deep mechanical click echoed through the courtyard. The ground rumbled, sliding open to reveal a narrow staircase spiraling downward into darkness.
Riko wrinkled her nose. "The trigger was inside his toe?"
Raven's expression softened with amusement. "Hashirama's humor was eccentric. Mito tolerated it. Come on."
They descended into the blackness. Sealing runes glowed faint red along the walls, casting shifting shadows across their faces.
Raven glanced over her shoulder. "You already know this is only a shadow clone. My true body's still a child at home. Thank you for not saying anything."
Riko's voice carried respect. "Lady Raven, questioning you would be unthinkable. The strength you've granted us speaks louder than appearances."
"That loyalty will define the Sanctuary," Raven said. "Only a handful know my secret. Let's keep it that way."
The stairway opened into an immense underground chamber. Mists drifted across the floor, glowing seal-lines winding through the stone like veins of light. At the center, an intricate spiral crest pulsed faintly with Uzumaki chakra.
Raven stepped forward, her voice quiet with reverence. "This is the Ancestral Inheritance Site. From here, we can open the gate to the Land of Whirlpools without alerting anyone in Konoha."
Riko gazed around, awe on her face. "You mean to use the Flying Thunder God Technique?"
Raven nodded. "No the seals here already conect to the land of Whirlpools we dont need that technique."
She pressed her palms together. Chakra surged through the chamber as the seal network came alive. Symbols spun across the floor, interlocking in perfect formation. The air vibrated, humming with golden light.
"Stay close," Raven warned. "The gate recognizes my soul's signature. It'll carry you as long as you're inside my chakra field."
Riko stepped beside her. The symbols brightened, expanding outward like ripples across water. A pulse of energy enveloped them, and the world folded inward in a flash of white.
When their vision cleared, they stood in a vast cavern carved from obsidian and salt-stained stone. Red and silver seals pulsed across the walls, ancient and dormant. The air smelled of the sea—old, trapped air that hadn't been disturbed in decades.
Raven looked around slowly, eyes reflecting the crimson glow. "We've arrived." She stepped forward, running her fingers across a half-buried spiral etched into the floor. "This is where it all begins. The heart of the Uzumaki's lost legacy."
Riko took a slow breath, voice trembling with awe. "It's beautiful… even after all this time."
Raven's expression softened. "Yes. But beauty fades. Legacy endures. Let's rebuild it."
