The moment the car horn echoed outside, Charlie moved faster than Amara had ever seen him move before.
Not running exactly.
But close.
He folded his newspaper quickly, trying very hard to look calm and normal, though the tiny spark of excitement in his eyes completely betrayed him.
Amara watched him in disbelief.
"…Wow," she muttered softly. "The game hasn't even started and he already looks emotionally invested."
Charlie pretended not to hear her.
Which only confirmed he absolutely did.
Amara followed him outside anyway, mostly because watching Charlie secretly act like an excited child was unexpectedly entertaining.
Honestly—
It was kind of cute.
The cold Forks air wrapped around them the moment they stepped outside. The sky above was its usual soft gray, clouds hanging low over the trees while the damp scent of rain lingered faintly in the air.
Parked near the driveway was an old truck.
The driver's side door opened first.
Harry Clearwater stepped out, tall and broad-shouldered, his calm expression relaxed.
At the same time, the passenger door opened and Billy Black carefully maneuvered himself out.
"Billy," Charlie greeted immediately, already moving to help him.
"Easy there," Billy grumbled. "I'm old, Swan, not fragile."
Charlie snorted.
"That's debatable."
Amara smiled faintly before stepping closer.
"Hi, Billy. How're you doing?"
Billy looked up at her, grin already forming.
"Still alive. Strong as a horse."
Amara tilted her head thoughtfully.
"…An old horse?"
Charlie choked on a laugh while Harry turned away, clearly hiding his amusement.
Billy pointed accusingly at her.
"You're spending too much time around Charlie. The disrespect is growing."
"It's survival instinct," Amara replied seriously.
Billy burst out laughing.
The atmosphere immediately felt easy.
Warm.Comfortable.
Amara glanced around once before asking casually,"Jacob didn't come?"
Billy waved a hand dismissively.
"Helping some of his friends with something."
Something in Billy's tone felt intentionally vague. Not suspicious exactly.Just… avoiding details.
Amara noticed it but didn't press further.
Charlie then gestured toward Harry.
"Amara, this is Harry Clearwater. Harry, this is Amara."
Amara offered a polite smile.
"Nice to meet you."
Harry nodded warmly.
"You too. So you're the new girl everyone keeps talking about."
Amara blinked once.
"…That sounds mildly threatening."
Harry laughed while Charlie sighed tiredly.
"She does this all day."
Amara ignored him completely.
Harry looked at her kindly before asking,
"How's Forks treating you?"
Amara looked up toward the endlessly cloudy sky before answering honestly,
"It's fine. Just… a little cloudy."
Billy barked out a laugh immediately.
Harry smiled knowingly.
Charlie looked personally offended.
"You people act like the weather's trying to kill you."
Billy looked upward dramatically.
"Charlie, I haven't seen the sun in fifteen business days."
"Liar," Charlie shot back instantly. "It was sunny last Tuesday."
"For eight minutes."
"That still counts!"
Amara covered her mouth, hiding her laughter.
Billy suddenly brightened.
"Oh, speaking of important things—I brought grilled fish for the game."
The effect was immediate.
Charlie's eyes widened.
Harry straightened.
All three men suddenly looked absurdly excited.
Amara stared at them silently.
"…Men really are simple creatures," she thought.Football.Fish.Happiness achieved.
The three men immediately started toward the house, already discussing the game like it was a life-or-death national event.
But Amara stopped moving.
Something—
A strange warmth spread suddenly through her chest.
She blinked.
The feeling deepened.Soft.Gentle.
Like warm water slowly pouring through her veins.
Amara frowned slightly.
The sensation spread outward quietly, wrapping around her body in invisible waves she couldn't see or understand.
But strangely—
It didn't hurt.
It felt peaceful.
Comforting.
Safe.
The cold air around her suddenly seemed warmer.
The noise of the world softened.
Even the distant wind through the trees sounded quieter somehow.
Amara stood there blankly, breathing slowly without realizing it.
Somewhere deep inside her—
Something was awakening.Not violently.Not suddenly.But steadily.
Like something sleeping for a very long time had finally begun to stir. And unknowingly—
The power surrounding her spread outward softly into the world around her.
Then suddenly—
A warm hand rested gently on her shoulder.
Amara blinked.
Charlie stood beside her, looking slightly confused but patient.
"Kiddo," he said lightly. "Let's get back inside."
Amara turned, noticing Billy and Harry had already gone inside ahead of them.
"…Yep," she replied quietly.
Charlie gave her shoulder a small squeeze before heading toward the door with her beside him.
But even as she walked—
Amara couldn't stop thinking about the strange warmth still lingering inside her chest.
It remained there.
Soft.
Steady.
Alive.
Inside, the house already felt louder.
Warmer.
Bella had apparently finished breakfast and was now in the kitchen rinsing dishes with surprisingly aggressive energy.
Meanwhile, Charlie, Billy, and Harry had fully settled into the living room, already arguing over teams while turning on the television for the baseball game.
"Move," Billy complained.
"You can still see from there," Charlie argued back.
"I'm old, not blind."
"Debatable," Harry muttered.
Billy glared at him.
Amara watched them for a moment before quietly walking toward the kitchen instead.
Mostly because her thoughts still felt strangely hazy.
And bothering Bella sounded easier than trying to understand whatever was happening to her.
Bella looked up as Amara entered.
"You okay?"
Amara leaned lightly against the counter.
"…Probably."
Bella stared.
"That doesn't sound convincing."
"It's the best you're getting."
"Let's just forget about it."
Bella accepted that answer immediately, which somehow felt very Bella-like.
Behind them, the television suddenly erupted loudly as the game officially started.
Charlie and Billy immediately started talking over each other.
Harry laughed loudly.
Bella sighed.
Amara rubbed her forehead faintly.
But beneath all the noise—
Something invisible moved quietly through the house.Something warm.Gentle.Alive.
No human eyes could see it.No one understood it.
But the energy surrounding Amara continued to spread softly through the rooms like invisible sunlight.
In the living room, Billy shifted suddenly in his wheelchair.
A faint warmth spread through his legs.
Not enough to heal completely.
Not enough to remove years of damage.
But enough that the constant ache dulled slightly for the first time in a long while.
Billy frowned faintly, confused.
Nearby, Harry took a slow breath—
Then paused.
His chest suddenly felt lighter.
The tightness he had long grown used to eased quietly, allowing him to breathe just a little easier.
Charlie leaned back against the couch with a deep sigh.
The exhaustion lingering in his shoulders felt strangely lighter.
Even Bella, standing at the sink, blinked in surprise as a calm warmth settled through her body, easing tension she hadn't even realized she carried.
None of them understood why.
None of them noticed the invisible force quietly surrounding the house.
And at the center of it all—
Amara stood silently in the kitchen.
Completely unaware that her powers had finally begun to awaken properly. That now she can control at her will.
Not only one.
But all of them.
