Chapter 8 - Price of forbidden knowledge

The shaky hand writing continued into the era of the gods, were the gods walked and lived among mankind, a time that was almost has wonderful has the era of mystery but to moon's surprise, this part of the book was blank.

Moon was perplexed, what kind of book of history skips a whole part of history.

He chuckled, a little bit relieved "this might not be forbidden after all"

But after flipping to the last page of the book dedicated to the era of the gods, those hopes was completely shattered.

The sun god, the black god, the storm god, the fire god, the beast god and the god of the moon.

The sun god represented light, mercy and destruction. The black god represented the unknown, the absence of light and all things black, some people believed the deity guarded knowledge humans weren't supposed to know.

Moon shivered thinking 'if that was true and he really was reading forbidden knowledge then maybe he would be smited by the deity'

But nothing happened so he continued reading.

The storm god represented nature, it's wrath and all scientific phenomenon. The flame god represented life, the paths we all take and the choices we make. The beast represented the first and last form of all living creatures, their original self.

Condition of the gods: alive, one unknown

Condition of the aspects: two unknown

Condition of the heralds: sealed

Span of era: three millenia and two centuries.

Moon was confused, the book only wrote about six gods but Atlas had said there were eight gods. He read the second line once again.

Condition of the aspects: two unknown

Could it be humanity mistook these aspects as gods but then why are their fates unknown.

"You see, those power drunken mad men actually managed to kill three of the original eight gods"

Moon's eyes widened "that bastard didn't go to war against the gods, he went to war to kill the strange aspects and from the look of it the mad man came really close"

but then if he didn't try to kill the gods why is the condition of one of the gods unknown and how the did he get such power.

Moon felt like he was close to realising something, so close but his mind refused to grasp it and all the while he was oblivious to the shadow stretching across the ivory walls from beneath his him.

"Wait a minute, didn't the book also mention that awakeners and mages conquered the stain"

But that simply was not true till this day if awakeners and mages lost control, they would become dragons.

Something was wrong very wrong, he felt it in his very being and all the while the shadow continued to spread across the library shrouding it in darkness.

He hurriedly flipped the book, skiping the era of ruin, he already knew about the bridges and monsters which threatened to destroy their world.

He flipped to end of the book were the writer simply wrote.

Time, pattern, end.

Crack

Upon reading those words moon felt something crack in his mind, like a wall had began to crumble and he mumbled to himself.

Three millenia and a century, three millenia and five centuries, three millenia and two centuries.

Destruction and restoration, death and rebirth.

The wall had began to crumbled.

The shadow had shrouded the entire library in darkness, the spheres of light that surrounded moon slowly grew dimmer and the jaws of a terrifying beast emerged right behind him from the darkness, the maw widened revealing rows of teeth and an abyss, ready to devour the poor soul but then.

Moon head throbbed with a skull splitting pain, his memories and thoughts were scattered and slowly his vision became blurry and then his mind cleared.

He shrugged then threw the book to the side "I'm hungry"

The jaw of the pale beast sunk into the darkness and the shadow quickly receeded into the shadow beneath moon

Moon stood up and stretched his arms into the air, tired from reading and sore from the earlier training.

He walked towards the door saying "I guess there was nothing special about the book after all" and left the library behind.

Unknown to moon he had just survived an encounter with the divine beast of the black god.

....

Later that day, after a scrumptious lunch, moon once again returned to the library, after all his thirst for knowledge had not be quenched and what one does not remember can not terrify him.

With a smile on his face, happy that he could eat such delicious food anytime he wanted, he picked a book off the shelf and read the name out loud.

'Monster 101'

He sat down on the floor his back faced against the ivory walls once again and began to read.

Surprisingly he was quite the fast reader, he read one book after the other and slowly a single book turned to two then three then four then five then eventually there were multiple piles of books surrounding him.

The sun decended and night came upon the world but he didn't mind... more like he didn't notice, he had long lost track of time, he read all books from science and biology of monsters and plants to stories of adventure and love and even picture books of children stories.

By the morning, when celeste came to check on him, he was surrounded by a mountain of books, the spheres of light snuggled closely to him, keeping him warm.

Staring at the tranquil and peaceful scene before her she decided that just for today training was cancelled and sat down and picked out a book to read.
