Chapter 83 - The Wolf Descends

Eryndor moved like a force of nature unleashed.

Tree to tree he leaped, each bound shattering branches and sending cascades of snow exploding into the air. The frozen wasteland blurred beneath him. His messy hair whipped wildly in the wind, his thickened frame radiating raw power that made the woods groan in protest. The spectral wolf spirit flickered at his side, a terrifying shadow that seemed to devour light itself. Every leap carried him closer to the massive explosion that had rocked the horizon. His heart thundered with one thought only.

*Ellie.*

Far away, the battlefield lay in ruins.

The self-destruct had been cataclysmic. Orange flames mixed with raw destructive force had torn through the mountainside like the wrath of the god. Ellie lay slumped against a shattered tree, her sword broken in half beside her. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, staining the snow red. Her body ached with every breath — ribs cracked, vision swimming, the taste of iron heavy on her tongue. The explosion from Kai had caught her directly, even as she tried to shield herself with her holy radiant echo.

The sacred threads of her foresight had warned her too late. The blast had shattered her defenses, sending her flying through the air like a broken doll before she crashed into the tree. Her black armor was scorched and dented, the radiant light that usually surrounded her flickering weakly.

Sylvara, the Empress of Verdancy, had acted with perfect timing. As Kai screamed the command for self-destruct, she had raised both hands, mana surging around her. Massive vines erupted from the frozen ground in an instant, weaving together into a protective sphere of living wood and glowing flowers. The sphere encased the her and the other Emperors — Raizen, Nerissa, Caelus, and Darius — shielding them from the worst of the blast. The vines shimmered with unnatural life, drawing power from the very earth itself despite the barren ice. Petals bloomed even in the freezing chaos, releasing soothing pollen that dulled the heat and shockwaves.

The vine sphere held firm as the explosion raged around it, the emperors safe within its embrace. When the light and fire finally died down, the sphere gently unfurled and dissolved back into the ground, leaving the Emperors unharmed. They stepped forward one by one, their expressions shifting from triumph to something almost pitying as they approached Ellie's broken form.

Kai led them, golden flames still licking at his coat. Raizen spun his spear lazily, lightning crackling along its length. Nerissa's presence brought the faint scent of salt and ocean depths. Darius's every step cracked the ice. Sylvara followed last, her emerald robes pristine, a trace of regret in her eyes.

Ellie coughed weakly, pushing herself up slightly against the tree. Her broken sword lay useless in the snow. She could barely lift her head, but her eyes still burned with defiance.

The Emperors formed a loose semicircle around her. The air grew heavy with their combined presences — flames, storms, seas, verdancy, and titanic strength all pressing down on the lone warrior.

Kai raised his hand slowly, orange fire gathering in his palm once more. "So long, Ellie."

The moment stretched, tension thick enough to choke the wind itself.

Far away,

Seraphina stood watching as Eryndor blitzed through the woods. His form was a streak of primal power, leaping from branch to branch with impossible speed. Snow and ice shattered in his wake. Seraphina's heart raced — both with hope for Ellie and concern for the man who had just healed her so gently.

Then she heard Lucifer again.

The Emperor of Death groaned, still yanking at his hair. "Die… die… die… die… die… die… die…" The chant grew louder, more unhinged. His dark red eyes started to bleed. Death mana surged around him, growing stronger and stronger, twisting the air into black vortices. The ground beneath him cracked as corrupted energy poured out.

He locked onto Seraphina.

With a guttural roar, Lucifer charged.

Seraphina grabbed her sword in an instant, ancient frost shimmering along the blade. She met his attack head-on, attempting to parry the frenzied strike. The clash sent shockwaves rippling outward. Despite her best effort, the sheer berserk force behind Lucifer's blow overwhelmed her. She was sent flying backward, crashing through one entire mountain in a deafening explosion of rock and ice, tumbling helplessly before slamming into a second mountain far away.

The impact carved a deep crater into the stone. Seraphina coughed, pushing herself up, frost mana flaring around her to stabilize her body. Lucifer was already upon her again. "DIE!"

Their fight erupted in full.

Lucifer attacked with unbridled fury, in chaotic patterns. Seraphina danced between his strikes, her ice magic forming barriers and countering. The mountains around them became their arena — peaks shattered, valleys filled with clashing mana. Every exchange sent avalanches roaring down the slopes. Lucifer's madness made him faster, stronger, but reckless. Seraphina's experience as an Emperor allowed her to read his patterns, freezing sections of his mana and forcing him back.

The battle stretched on for what felt like an eternity. Blow after blow. Ice met death. Frost clashed with corruption. Seraphina's elegant swordplay met Lucifer's feral assaults. They traded devastating strikes — Lucifer's death blade slashing through a glacier, Seraphina's ice sphere exploding against his chest. Blood stained the snow. Both were breathing hard, mana reserves pushed to their limits.

Finally, as they faced each other across a newly formed chasm, both raised their hands.

"Divine Art—" they began in unison, voices echoing across the devastated landscape.

Far away, back with Ellie and the Emperors.

Kai's hand glowed brighter, the orange flames ready to deliver the finishing blow. The other Emperors watched with varying expressions — some cold, some almost sorrowful. Ellie stared up at them, blood on her lips, but a faint smile touched her face even now.

Then, out of nowhere, deep in the woods, a voice screamed with primal fury.

"Abyssal Wolf's Eclipse Rend!"

A hellish slash of radiant dark light mixed with shadowy wolf energy tore through the trees like a blade from the abyss itself. The attack cut a devastating path straight toward the Emperors, trees exploding into splinters, ice vaporizing in its wake. The sheer power forced all of them to scatter desperately, dodging the devastating strike.

Ellie looked toward the woods and smiled weakly. "You made it."

Eryndor stepped out from the shattered treeline, his presence overwhelming. His mana flickered wildly around him like a storm of divine frost and primal shadow, the terrifying wolf spirit fully manifested at his back. His eyes burned with cold rage. The pressure radiating from him was enough to make the Emperors instinctively step back, their expressions shifting from triumph to unease.

The air grew thick with tension. The predator had arrived for his prey.
