Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Scar: The Wolf In The Room

"Luna's really changed a lot, don't you think?" Huntress asked, sipping her drink as they sat in the café.

Hunter scoffed "Changed? No. She just got dumber."

"I'm serious. Didn't you notice it?" she leaned toward him, eyes narrowing.

"Shut up...Goddamnit, can't a guy eat in peace?" he snapped, then sighed. "Yeah, she's changed, alright. But it won't do her any good. She's weaker now. She'll get herself killed eventually."

"I know," Huntress said quietly. "But I won't let that happen. I'll challenge anyone who tries to hurt her. Even Father."

She looked at him. "She kept us safe back then. Now it's my turn."

Hunter paused, his fork hovering mid-air.

"Don't make me laugh. You'll get yourself killed too."

Huntress stared out the window, voice steady.

"She protected us when we were kids—stood up to Father when no one else dared. I owe her everything."

Hunter clicked his tongue, looking away.

"Tch… do as you like."

A small smirk tugged at her lips.

"Yeah, it's dangerous. But I know my little brother will have my back."

He slammed his hand on the table.

"We're twins, goddamnit."

She chuckled.

"I'm still five minutes older." She glanced up, eyes thoughtful.

"Wonder what our other little bro's up to right now…"

"Scar?, That brat's no brother of mine," Hunter scoffed.

"He's probably up to something stupid… maybe he's even gotten to Luna already."

"I sure hope not. It'd be a tragedy—he's gotten stronger since she left. He could kill her without even trying," she replied, her voice tense.

"Oh well, eat up. We've got to report this unknown Alpha to Father," Hunter said, standing up.

Meanwhile, far from the café, back in Sarah's room, she stood face to face with Scar.

"I told you to leave," Sarah whispered, fury burning in her eyes.

"The ball's in my court now," Scar said, his tone sharp.

"You'll do as I say."

He stepped forward. "Lock the door."

"I won't take orders from an insolent brat like you," Sarah snapped, her eyes blazing.

Scar shrugged and strolled past her, settling on the edge of the bed.

"Alright then—don't lock it," he said coolly. "Might be more fun if your husband walks in and sees me tearing your guts out with my fangs."

Damn this kid, she thought, jaw clenched as she turned and locked the door.

Scar grinned.

"Good girl."

His voice was low, mocking—like he was testing how far he could push before she snapped.

"Okay… Talk!" Sarah snarled, her eyes sharp enough to cut steel.

Scar leaned back, arms folded behind his head, unfazed.

"Tell me a little more about the Alpha downstairs…"

He smirked. "He seems… different."

"He's no Alpha," Sarah said sharply. "Not even a wolf. Just a man. Now get out of myhouse."

Scar stood up sharply. "Don't play games with me, Luna," he growled, voice laced with fury.

This kid… he's only sixteen, and he can already hide his presence. Now his aura—so intense, so heavy—it's deadly.

Sarah clenched her fists, jaw tight, every instinct screaming to fight… or run.

But she didn't flinch.

"Sit down," she said coldly. "You want answers? Then stop throwing tantrums."

Scar's glare didn't waver, but he slowly lowered himself back onto the edge of the bed.

"Start talking, then," he said. "That man downstairs—he's not normal. Who is he?"

Sarah crossed her arms. "He's nothing. Really."

Scar tilted his head, eyes narrowing. "His scent is off. He's an Alpha… but not quite. He's something more."

Her jaw tightened.

"You're overthinking it," she lied.

Scar leaned back slightly, a dark grin forming. "No... you're hiding something."

"I'm not," she said quickly. "Yes, his scent and presence are off—but Jake's totally normal. No beast. No claws. No fangs. No fur. Just a plain ol' human."

 Scar's eyes gleamed. "Normal, huh?"

Sarah didn't answer.

He stood again, slow and deliberate, stepping toward her.

"You're protecting him," he said, a trace of amusement curling in his voice. "That means he is something."

"I said—he's human."

Scar leaned in, voice low, dangerous.

"No, he's not."

He turned toward the window, pausing just before stepping through.

"Oh, and Luna…" he looked back over his shoulder, a wicked grin spreading across his face.

"Father's going to love this."
