Chapter 560 - Chapter 240: Shock Disrupts Qi, Fear Sinks Qi (Part 2)

The causes of heart palpitations are quite complex. Throughout history and in contemporary understanding, the content is very rich, but can be summarized mainly as follows:

Firstly, insufficient heart yin and heart blood, causing the heart to lack nourishment.

What does this mean?

The heart yin and heart blood can be inadequately nourished due to prolonged illness or excessive physical and mental strain which harms the spleen and kidney. Other causes include persistent bleeding which hasn't healed, congenital deficiencies, and weak constitution, all leading to a depletion or insufficiency of heart yin and heart blood, resulting in a deficiency in both.

When the heart cannot be nourished, it leads to heart palpitations. The heart governs the mind, and it's nourished by blood. When heart blood is deficient, the mind becomes unsettled; this kind of palpitations belongs to deficiency, yin, and epilepsy syndromes.
