Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Compromise

Silas Shaw has a bad habit; unless there's something special, he almost always arrives at work just in time.

Today was no exception.

The hospital is always crowded on weekdays, especially during the 8 AM rush hour.

Family members of inpatients need to see doctors and visit patients, while doctors and nurses are rushing to get to work, so the elevators are particularly hard to squeeze into at this time.

Silas Shaw, being tall and experienced, managed to easily squeeze into the elevator today, just like usual.

Just as it was about to exceed capacity, two more girls rushed in.

One of them had her hair in a ponytail, looking neat and tidy, with a small oval face, no makeup, but very pretty.

When Silas Shaw saw her, he was momentarily stunned. Immediately after, he heard the elevator's "overload" warning beep.

The two girls who got on last felt a bit embarrassed and were about to get off when Silas Shaw made a long stride, got off the elevator before them.

The alarm stopped, and the girl with the ponytail couldn't help but look at Silas Shaw. Without stopping, he quickly walked toward the staircase.

Even without seeing his face, she recognized him.

Silas Shaw.

He's still the same.

At this moment, her colleague nudged her: "Zanna, what are you thinking about? I'm talking to you."

"Did you see someone you know? Wasn't that Dr. Shaw from neuro just now?"

Zanna shook her head and said, "I've told you all before, I don't know any Dr. Shaw."

The colleague frowned suspiciously, puzzled: "Then who spread the rumor before, saying you two dated?"

Zanna said nothing, just smiled.

When Silas Shaw climbed the stairs and reached the department, the shift handover had already finished.

He collapsed into a chair, exhausted, and took out a tissue to wipe his sweat.

Victor Rhodes, holding a notebook and ready to go to the outpatient department with Caleb Lockwood, couldn't help joking when he saw Silas Shaw: "Teacher Shaw, what kind of exercise did you do to get this tired?"

Silas Shaw glanced at him: "Try climbing up to the eleventh floor in one go."

"What made you decide to climb the stairs today? That's not like you at all." Victor laughed, squinting his eyes.

Hearing this, Silas Shaw acted like he was going to throw something at him, and Victor quickly tried to appease him: "Teacher Shaw, the pathology results for your patient in Bed 2 are out. I put them in the medical records folder for you."

"I'm heading to the outpatient department now." With that, Victor quickly took his things and left.

Silas Shaw took a sip of hot water and looked through the pathology report for Bed 2. Unintentionally, he noticed the line at the bottom of the report.

Diagnosing Doctor: Zanna Vance.

Damn it! Silas Shaw felt like cursing, a fire seemed to burn within him.

He turned the report face down on the table.

Out of sight, out of mind.

-

Serena Sutton came to the hospital directly after finishing two classes in the morning.

She had already pre-registered, number 12, and now it was just called to number 11.

She stood outside the consultation room, and as soon as number 11 came out, she immediately went in.

Caleb Lockwood was sitting in front of the computer, a stethoscope on the table. He was wearing a clean white coat, his eyes lowered, looking at the computer screen in front of him, with handsome features, a high nose bridge, and thin lips gently pressed together, with a defined jawline. His fair skin made his slender hands look even more attractive.

Noticing Serena Sutton's approach, he finally looked up, and their eyes suddenly met.

"Have a seat." His voice was clear and pleasant, and although he had no facial expression, he was still so handsome, making it impossible for someone to resist.

Serena obediently sat on the chair in front of him, feeling inexplicably a bit nervous.

Caleb casually glanced at the computer screen, Serena Sutton, 21 years old.

"What's uncomfortable?" He asked seriously, staring at the young lady in front, with a very business-like tone.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Serena pointed to her forehead.

"Headache?" Caleb slightly raised an eyebrow, his voice crisp.

"There's a scar here, didn't you see it?" Serena brazenly blurted it out.

She really couldn't find any reason to see a doctor, and the small scar on her forehead was being used a second time.

Caleb stared at her forehead, examining it; the previous wound had healed, leaving only a faint scar.

He silently sighed: "So, you're trying to..."

"Remove the scar!" Without thinking, Serena instinctively said those three words.

Beside her, Victor couldn't help but laugh. This young lady is quite amusing, coming to neurology to remove a scar?

At this moment, Serena wished she could give herself a good slap. What did she just say? Wouldn't Caleb think she's an idiot?

Caleb turned slightly, gave a cold glance at Victor, who immediately stopped laughing, spooked.

Stood there obediently.

"If you want to remove a scar, you can go to the cosmetic surgery department." Caleb said indifferently, with a serious look.

In his view, it was normal for a young girl not to want scars, only she registered in the wrong department.

All understandable.

"I don't know where the cosmetic surgery department is," Serena said with a hint of grievance, her eyes glistening, looking up at him like that.

Since she already acted foolishly, she might as well play dumb to the end.

Seeing the young lady looking so pitiful, Caleb's heart melted completely.

"Then wait outside for a bit, and I'll have Victor take you there later." His tone carried a hint of helpless compromise.

Hearing that, Serena quickly stood up, smiling brightly and naturally sitting on the examination bed beside: "I'll wait here, I promise, I won't disturb you."

Caleb slightly frowned but soon relaxed, saying lightly: "Victor, call the next patient."

This way, he tacitly approved of her behavior.

The next patient and family soon came in.

The patient was an elderly man in his fifties or sixties, sitting across from Caleb, looking pale and unwell.

The patient's daughter spoke up: "Dr. Lockwood, my dad has had a headache for about a month, started vomiting a week ago, and hasn't been able to sleep or eat well. We saw a doctor in our county hospital, and here's the CT scan. The county hospital doctor said it was a brain tumor and suggested we come to Central Hospital to check."

Victor took the CT scan the patient handed over, placed it on the viewing light, and turned it on.

Caleb studied the film for a moment, then heard the patient's family ask: "Dr. Lockwood, what's wrong with my dad exactly? Is it serious?"

Serena instinctively looked towards Caleb.

He still had that cool demeanor, unperturbed, with long fingers moving the mouse, and after a few keystrokes.

He glanced at the elderly man seated across from him, his voice warm: "Has he had seizures before?"

The older man's voice was hoarse: "A few times spasmed."

At this moment, Serena, sitting on the examination bed, cradled her face in her hands, her eyes unblinkingly fixed on Caleb.

So, this is what Caleb was like while working.
