"You just-" Warrington spluttered in disbelief. "You just pushed straight into us!"
"You were in my way," Blake replied, turning to leave. Pucey and Warrington stared at him in disbelief, as Bletchley stood up quickly.
"Who the f*ck do you think you are, you mudblood!" he shouted.
"Wait, Miles-" Warrington said faintly, seeing Blake pause.
"I've had enough of your filthy blood parading around here, thinking you own the place!" he growled, split flying from his mouth, drawing his wand. "You think you're something, huh? You're just a weak, little mudblood, and you-"
Blake turned immediately, wand already drawn.
"Wingardium Leviosa." Bletchley immediately shot up into the ceiling with a massive thud, cracks appearing in the concrete. Blake lowered his wand, releasing the spell, and the fat 6th year fell back down with an even louder thud, unmoving as blood trickled from his mouth.
Blake turned his gaze to Pucey and Warrington, as other Slytherins in the common room quickly took cover and cast protection spells over themselves.
"Do either of you have something to say?"
Pucey and Warrington drew their wands, gritting their teeth. Their pride wouldn't allow them to leave now.
"Diffindo!"
"Expulso!"
Moving quickly, Blake wordlessly levitated Bletchley's unconscious body, moving it in front of his own.
Pucey and Warrington watched in a mix of shock and horror as their spells hit their friend, smashing him into the wall with a deep gash on his left arm as Blake ducked below.
"Confringo!"
The blast hit the ground in front of the pair, knocking them back into the opposite wall. As they slid down, just like Bletchley, blood trickled from their mouths.
Blake grinned as he walked back into his dorm room, where Zabini was waiting for him, looking thoroughly annoyed.
"Did you have to make it so loud?"
Blake just laughed in response, collapsing onto his bed.
Dumbledore's going to be so pissed.
/
Blake had hoped he would be allowed to sleep before getting in trouble, but unfortunately, he was not so lucky.
"Renshaw!" Snape's voice was barely able to contain his anger. "Open this door at once."
Blake made sure to take his time before opening the door, coming face to face with a Snape who looked like he was about to die from rage.
"Good evening, Professor," Blake said. "Is there a problem?"
"Don't play smart with me, Renshaw," Snape said, grabbing Blake by the arm. "You know what you did. Come with me. The Headmaster wants to speak with you to decide your punishment."
"Punishment? For what, Professor?" Blake asked innocently, relishing in the anger growing on the face of the former - or current - Death Eater.
"You think you're so clever and funny, don't you?" Snape whispered maliciously as he dragged Blake to Dumbledore's office. "You think because of your meddling in earlier years, you're some type of untouchable hero? Just wait - I'll have you scrubbing cauldrons for the rest of the year!"
"There's only a week of school left, Professor."
"Silence! Then you'll be scrubbing them for the entirety of next year too!"
"But you're not allowed to give detentions for the next school year, Professor. It says so in the rulebook."
"Renshaw, hold your tongue, because if you say another word, so help me Merlin-"
"You missed the turn to Professor Dumbledore's office, sir. We're going the wrong way."
Snape continued to insult and shout at Blake all the way up to Dumbledore's office, where the Headmaster was waiting behind his desk with a frown.
"Headmaster, I insist that Renshaw learns his lesson - I'll have him scrubbing cauldrons for the rest of this school year and the next for what he's done!"
Dumbledore sighed.
"I'm sorry, Severus, but it's against the rules."
"Told you," Blake muttered under his breath. Snape whirled on Blake, ready to scream, when Dumbledore spoke again.
"And, unfortunately, I fear that I might have some blame in this matter. Blake, was this your idea of a plan?"
"Yes, Professor," Blake said with a smile. "Trust me, it's going to work."
"Oh, I believe you, Blake," Dumbledore sighed. "But please, do not attack my students."
"There's no other option, unfortunately, Professor," Blake said, trying to sound regretful.
"Oh, please, Headmaster, there's no way you allow this! This boy is clearly using the opportunity to attack students he dislikes! Fancy yourself a hero, do you, Renshaw?"
"Do you think I'm a hero, Professor?"
"YOU-"
"That's enough from both of you," Dumbledore said sternly.
"Blake, since you've already started this, you must finish it - unfortunately, there's no other choice. But do not think you're free from punishment - you can't use the freedom I afford you to attack students you dislike! You will serve detention under Professor Snape everyday until the end of term. You are dismissed."
Blake apologised as sincerely as he could muster, before leaving to go back to his dorm room.
The freedom you afford me? he thought, scoffing at Dumbledore's words. I was wrong. Dumbledore didn't cooperate with us because he wanted to keep us in the loop - he just did it because he had no choice.
There were a lot of things Blake didn't like about Dumbledore, but being told that he needed permission for his actions? That his freedom was given to him? That was the worst.
Just you wait, Blake promised. I'll do my bit for now, but I won't be your slave.
I'm not Harry. I'm not someone for you to manipulate and control.
Blake thought back to all that Dumbledore had hidden from him over the years, all the times that he had the power to fix things, but chose to sit back and allow literal children to do instead.
He wouldn't be another pawn that Dumbledore could use and throw away whenever he felt like.
"Detention?" Zabini asked sleepily from his bed as Blake entered the room.
"Yeah," he sighed. "For the rest of the year."
"Only a week left anyway."
"Yeah. Anyway, remember what you have to do tomorrow, yeah?"
Blake could almost hear the grin in Zabini's voice.
"I will."
