Chapter 4 - The New Transfer

Merlin stood up, walked in front of the class, and took the chalk from the teacher's hands. As I started writing, I seemed to notice the aggressive clicks the chalk makes when interacting with the board. Soon after, I realized I was finished.

Before I sat down in my chair, the teacher spoke, "I thought you were being arrogant as a student for sitting in front; I'm glad you have the intelligence to back it up."

The lecture went on: more equations, more recitations, and finally...

*BELL RINGS*

As soon as I got out, I followed the new transfer, and to my surprise, he did something a protagonist would do—searching for a clue, but not just any clue, a clue that could trigger an event like in games and stuff. Not only that, he also made poses, trying to test his powers with a bunch of popular incantations.

'ALAKAZAM, ABRACADABRA, ETC..'

Suddenly, a stranger's hand touched my left shoulder, and to my surprise, it was my teacher from the last lecture. "So..." the teacher paused for a second before she continued, "why do you keep looking at your new classmate?" the teacher asked, crossing her arms. "So, um—" my chest tightened as I stuttered, looking for an answer. Then the new transfer came up to me and said, "he's looking after me, thinking maybe I will do something bad."

My teacher gasped from what she just heard and said, "Getting suspicious of your new classmate for that reason—" The teacher cut herself off, her gaze dropping to her shoes as she took a slow, steadying breath, with her hands resting on her waist, she looked up and continued, "You're going to the principal's office."

And before I even reached the principal's office, I said something ridiculous. "Ma'am, if I manage to get out alive from the principal's office, can you change the seat of the new transfer? I promise I won't bother him." Raising my hand to my left side, making a promise.

My teacher replied, "And why do you think I'll do that?" "Because..." I paused for a brief second, "he and I are much alike, but not so much. In simple terms, same-same but different," I answered with a slight smirk on my face.

Why did I even answered? Oh my goodness... I Thought to myself.

I escaped the principal's office—alive, as promised, but the hallway felt strangely empty. The transfer student was gone, the spot where he'd been practicing his "hero poses" now just a vacant stretch of linoleum.

I headed toward the stairs, but something caught my eye. I retreated a few steps, my sneakers squeaking against the floor, and stopped in front of the library.

Inside, the air was different, heavy with the scent of old paper and the low, constant hum of the ventilation system. Rows of towering wooden shelves created a labyrinth of shadows, blocking out the bright, clinical light of the school corridor. It was the perfect place to disappear.

I wandered the aisles, my fingers trailing over the spines of books that looked like they hadn't been touched since the school was built. I was just looking for something to kill the boredom when a slim, dark-blue spine caught my eye.

The Law of Wishes.

The title felt heavy, almost out of place among the textbooks. I pulled it from the shelf, feeling the slight grit of dust on the cover, and found a secluded table in the back corner. The chair groaned softly as I sat. I laid the book flat on the wood, the silence of the library pressing in around me, and flipped it open.

Wishes.

Written from the first page of the book.

Wishes are capable of being powers.

I don't understand, I thought to myself but I kept reading. Maybe because of the curiosity or really just a pure boredom.

These wishes are capable of powers.

If you have made a childhood wish, or by an accident or even for the sake needing something, it will all turn and become powers.

We have three types of wishes.

The Childhood Wish; Wherein it's basically wishes from young childrens where they believe a shooting star can make it happen.

The Accidental Wish; This is the wish where some people gets overwhelmed by their emotions they just started wishing bad for someone or for themselves.

and lastly...

The Necessity Wish; This wish is lean to people who wish in a state of emergency— needing help for example, also even in the state of wanting something for very important reason, in short they need it.

Now for the powers...

Before I can read it I heard a noise of the door opening, in a state of panic I tried to hide this book, luckily I found some bag near me, and hide it there, as I stood up I saw the new transfer, he noticed right away the bag I was holding and said "what's inside the bag?"

"I—it was nothing, this is nothing, you can go, I won't bother you if you leave, I promise," I said, my sweat falling to the floor of the library, and my heart goes rapid, finally he spoke "why are you nervous? Is it important? Can you tell me why?"

"I - " I tried to tell a word but none, no words came out of my mouth, I can't even think what to say, my mind keeps telling me this is just a book, but why I can't let it go? Is it because it's written something important, no it's impossible, the words written here can be fake, Why I can't let it go?

And then before I can think again of what I am doing, the new transfer was in front of me, he raises his hands , His fist blurred, connecting with my jaw with a sickening crack. The impact was devastating, it was just one punch but it hurts, my eyes starting to close, and I can see the glimpse of him taking the bag and leaving before I passed out.
