Chapter 362 - Starlight's Shock: The Diary Is Real, The Seven Are Scum!

 Starlight was beyond furious.

As her lifelong beliefs crumbled, she felt a crushing sense of betrayal.

She had always known her mother, Caroline, was a vain woman, driven by an insatiable thirst for fame and wealth. Starlight had believed that Caroline's relentless efforts to mold her into a star were born, in part, from a mother's love.

But she also knew that a huge part of it was because Caroline relished the glory of being a celebrity's mother.

Even so, Starlight had been willing to work and strive for her mother's dreams. She had simply wanted to make her happy.

How could she have ever imagined that in her mother's eyes, she was nothing more than a tool?

What kind of person would agree to inject chemical drugs into their own young daughter?

It was absolutely monstrous.

Starlight was seething. The only reason she hadn't severed all ties with Caroline on the spot was because she was at the absolute limit of her endurance.

For the next few days, Starlight didn't even go home. Instead, she checked into a hotel and refused to answer any of Caroline's calls.

She even canceled her next scheduled concert.

Her mind was a chaotic mess—how could she possibly force a smile and perform for the crowd now?

This drove Caroline half to death with worry. She started calling Starlight frantically, but Starlight never once picked up.

Caroline was beyond anxious. Starlight had a brilliant future ahead of her, and everything had been going so well. What if she'd messed it all up?

*Damn it!*

*Who the hell told Starlight the truth?!*

Starlight was desperate to know that herself.

During the days she was ignoring Caroline, she had been secretly investigating Zhou Cheng. She asked the superhumans she knew and even ventured into their exclusive circles, but all her efforts came up empty.

Not a single person had ever heard of a superhuman named Zhou Cheng.

However, she did find some answers from the other diary owners.

"So, you're Starlight."

After several days of communication, Tony had finally figured out her identity.

The Playboy immediately understood.

Starlight and Queen Maeve—these were the only superheroes whose diaries had never mentioned a single scandal.

Especially Starlight—she later joined The Boys to fight against The Seven.

Like all the other diary holders, she was a genuine superhero. Not a manufactured persona like Homelander's, but a true one.

"Yes, I'm Starlight," she explained simply to Tony. "Because my powers generate a lot of... starlight."

Then, she turned to Playboy, her expression one of disbelief. "And you? Are you really from another universe?"

"That's right. I'm from the Marvel Universe-199999," Tony explained again to Starlight. "This diary randomly selects a few lucky individuals from across the multiverse. We were the ones chosen."

"So... it's all because of this diary?" Starlight sank into deep thought.

She could communicate with people from other universes and see these explosive "revelations"—not because of some superhuman's power? But because of... a diary?

*How could a diary possess such a strange power? It's completely unscientific.*

Starlight had never encountered anything like this before.

"It's not so much the diary itself," Tony said, "as the person behind it."

Playboy shared his thoughts. "But that person isn't Zhou Cheng."

"Zhou Cheng is the one who wrote the diary, but he isn't the one who sent it to us."

"As for Zhou Cheng, he's someone who knows the past and future of numerous parallel universes."

"I'm sure you've already seen that for yourself."

*Knows the past, knows the future?*

*Does such an omniscient person truly exist in this world?*

*The past is one thing, but how could anyone possibly know the future?*

Yet, on reflection, the tone of the diary's writing did indeed seem to describe events from the perspective of someone who knew the future. In fact, most of the entries detailed things that hadn't even happened yet.

So the question was: Was that Zhou Cheng truly, as Stark claimed, aware of the future?

Such a notion was simply too incredible for Starlight to fully accept. Even after Zhou Cheng revealed the true origin of superhumans in the diary, she still struggled to believe it completely. She had only accepted a fraction of it.

However, for Starlight, this wasn't an insurmountable problem.

The diary had revealed a great deal. Whether its claims were true or false would be easy enough to verify.

Starlight silently made her decision: she would simply wait and see if the events predicted in the diary actually came to pass.

Just one week later, a crucial prediction from the diary was proven true.

Starlight was eating at a restaurant when she received a call from an unknown number.

She hesitated for a moment, wondering if it was Caroline calling from a different phone. But after a brief pause, she decided to answer.

After all, she couldn't just ignore every unknown number because of this. Besides, she had been ghosting Caroline for days now.

"Is this Ms. Annie?"

A sharp, professional voice immediately came through the receiver. It wasn't Caroline.

Starlight perked up and replied politely, "Yes, this is she. May I ask who's calling?"

"I'm from Vought International's Talent Relations Department. You can call me Ashley."

*Vought International!*

*Talent Relations!*

Starlight shot upright as if she'd been struck by lightning. Her breathing grew heavy, and her heart hammered against her ribs.

*No way...*

*Could it be what I think it is?*

"Congratulations, Starlight. After a review by the Talent Relations Department, we've unanimously decided that you will take over The Lamplighter's position as the seventh member of The Seven."

"Do you have a moment? We have some follow-up matters to discuss with you."

*Boom!*

Starlight completely tuned out whatever Ashley said next because her mind had just exploded.

She'd made the cut!

She'd actually made the cut!

She had always known her popularity was high and that she was a strong contender, but when this monumental opportunity finally landed in her lap, it still left her completely stunned.

After all, this was *The Seven*.

To put it bluntly, joining The Seven was like a commoner being crowned royalty—it would completely transform her life.

Not only would she become an overnight millionaire, but she'd also become an overnight superstar.

From an ordinary person at the bottom of the social ladder, she would instantly become a global icon!

No one could remain calm after such a massive surprise, not even Starlight.

"I'm sorry, what did you say? I spaced out for a second," Starlight said apologetically to Ashley after finally composing herself.

Ashley had seen this countless times and wasn't surprised. She patiently repeated the follow-up arrangements to Starlight.

"No problem!"

"Of course, no problem!"

"I'll follow the company's arrangements for everything."

Starlight nodded repeatedly, agreeing to all of Ashley's requests.

After ending the call, Starlight instinctively looked up Caroline's number.

Driven by instinct, she wanted to tell Caroline the good news.

But very soon, Starlight's movements froze.

What Caroline had done had awakened her. She was unwilling to just keep being Caroline's tool.

"The diary!"

And soon, the various spoilers in the diary flashed through Starlight's mind, plunging her into hesitation.

Now, she had actually been selected for the Seven, just as the diary had said.

Did this mean that the diary, as Stark had said, could truly predict the future?

Did it mean that all the other things the diary said were true?

Starlight couldn't make a judgment for a moment.

After all, although the matter of Compound V was hidden, it was something that had already happened.

Her selection for the Seven was also not something that couldn't be traced. She was indeed one of the popular candidates.

Starlight couldn't simply refuse this hard-won opportunity because of this kind of thing.

So, after a period of contemplation, Starlight made a decision:

*Join The Seven first,* she thought. *See what they're really like. See if it's truly as the journal described.*

As for now...

Her mind made up, Starlight lost her appetite. She immediately left the restaurant and returned to her room.

Next, she needed to cooperate with Vought International on various pre-debut preparations. She had to present her absolute best self.

At the very least, the clothes she was wearing were completely unsuitable.

Besides, she'd been in a foul mood the past few days and hadn't even bothered with makeup.

After nearly two hours of grooming, she finally felt presentable.

Only then did Starlight head to Vought International, where "Team Starlight" was already waiting for her.

That was right.

She hadn't even officially started, yet a full staff—stylists, makeup artists, and various assistants—was already in place.

They were just waiting to serve her.

"Starlight, I need to tell you something," Ashley said, her voice dripping with a seductive, almost hypnotic quality that made Starlight even more restless. "When you walk out that door again, your life is going to change forever. You're going to become a superstar. Are you ready?"

What followed was a brief discussion between Ashley and Starlight, all centered on the arrangements for her debut.

There was no doubt about it: Vought International's style was utterly domineering.

Although Ashley appeared polite, she left Starlight with virtually no choice in the arrangements.

Fortunately, Starlight had no objections to the company's plans, so she left everything to Vought International to handle.

After completing some necessary procedures, Starlight was brought to a press conference hosted by Vought International.

On stage, Madelyn, Vought International's Vice President, was delivering a passionate speech, though its theme wasn't immediately clear.

But when Madelyn called The Deep from The Seven onto the stage, and it was his turn to speak, Starlight grew increasingly anxious.

"My good friend The Lamplighter has retired, let's give him a huge 'thank you'."

"But now, we must look to the future, and I'm about to introduce a special guest."

"I can't wait to work with her."

"Please welcome Starlight!"

The Deep's voice boomed through the venue, and thunderous applause followed.

Vought International was clearly taking Starlight seriously. Not only did Madelyn personally make an appearance, but they even brought in a member of The Seven to endorse her.

This showed just how much importance they placed on Starlight.

Starlight looked at the fanatical fans below, who were cheering and shouting endlessly. It felt like a dream.

Even after she stepped onto the stage, she still felt like she was floating.

She didn't even know how it all ended.

Her head felt like it was about to explode. It was no wonder—the blinding lights and deafening cheers from the crowd were enough to shatter anyone's composure.

After the show, Deep Sea personally took Starlight, his new "junior," on a tour of Vought International. He was the picture of warmth and patience, a true gentleman.

Starlight couldn't help but doubt the diary's claims. *No matter how you look at it,* she thought, *Deep Sea doesn't seem like a creep at all.*

*The diary must be wrong after all!*

But she was quickly proven wrong.

Just as she was beginning to feel satisfied with joining The Seven, basking in the surreal joy of it all, Deep Sea's true colors emerged.

He bluntly declared himself the second-in-command of The Seven—not hinting, but stating it outright. Then, he told Starlight that if she wanted to keep her spot, she had to "do things" with him.

Starlight froze.

She was completely stunned.

*This is Deep Sea?*

*The man I've always admired... is actually this kind of scumbag?*

The diary had been right all along. Deep Sea was a fucking creep.

And this was only the beginning.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Starlight was wiping away tears in the restroom when she ran into the well-meaning Queen Maeve.

"Pull yourself together. Never let them see you like this."

Queen Maeve's words were blunt, but her gesture was kind as she handed Starlight some tissues.

A wave of warmth washed over Starlight.

But as Queen Maeve turned to leave, she muttered a random curse: "Invisible Man, you fucking pervert!"

???

Starlight was still trying to process this when a figure suddenly materialized in the corner of the restroom.

The Invisible Man!

It was actually the Invisible Man!

*The fucking Invisible Man has been hiding in the restroom this whole time?*

*That old creep!*

Starlight couldn't help but curse in her mind.

At that moment, the diary's description of the Invisible Man flashed through her mind: *Voyeur!*

It was true.

The Invisible Man was a fucking voyeur.

And not just any voyeur, but a pervert who took it to the next level—spying on people in the damn restroom.

*This is The Seven?*

*These are the world-famous superheroes?*

Starlight's entire worldview shattered.
