Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Junhwo groaned as a small body landed on his chest. He pried open his eyes to see Eunji, her face beaming, her hair a mess of tangled curls.

"Oppa! Wake up! Wake up!" she chirped, bouncing with unrestrained energy.

Junhwo chuckled, a rare, genuine smile gracing his lips. "Alright, alright, I'm up," he mumbled, gently nudging her off him.

He sat up and looked around his room. It was a disaster zone, a typical teenager's lair. Socks littered the floor like fallen soldiers, a mountain of laundry threatened to spill from the chair, and textbooks lay scattered amidst the chaos. He sighed, but a familiar fondness tugged at his heart. This was his space, his mess. Why is my room a total disaster... I just cleaned you last week! Junhwo thought.

He grabbed his towel and headed to the bathroom, the cool tiles a welcome contrast to the warmth of his bed. The shower was quick and efficient, a routine he'd perfected over the years. He emerged feeling slightly more human, the remnants of sleep washed away.

Dressed in his school uniform, he made his way to the kitchen. The table was laden with a breakfast spread that could rival a small feast. Mrs. Lee always went overboard, a testament to her unwavering love and concern. There were pancakes, eggs, bacon, and a colorful array of fruits. Junhwo grabbed a ham sandwich, a quick and easy option, and gave Mrs. Lee a grateful nod.

"Goodbye, Mom," he said, heading for the door.

"Be careful, Junhwo!" she called after him, her voice filled with warmth.

He spotted Ha-jun walking alone, his shoulders slumped, his usual bouncy gait replaced with a dejected shuffle. Junhwo approached him, a hint of concern in his eyes.

"Yo, what's up? You look down today?" Junhwo asked, falling into step beside him.

Ha-jun mumbled, avoiding eye contact. "I got scolded for sneaking out for chicken last night," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.

Junhwo chuckled, nudging him playfully. "Serves you right. You know your mom is strict."

"Yeah, but she grounded me for a week! No video games, no hanging out, nothing!" Ha-jun wailed, his face a picture of despair.

"A week? That's rough, buddy," Junhwo said, trying to suppress a smile. "Maybe you should try being a little less obvious next time."

As they walked through the school hallways, Junhwo noticed a strange tension in the air. Students were whispering, their eyes darting nervously. He couldn't quite catch what they were saying, but the atmosphere was thick with unease.

"What's going on?" Junhwo asked, his senses on high alert.

Ha-jun shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe there's a test we forgot about?"

Junhwo doubted it. This felt different, more ominous. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to happen, that the fragile peace he had found was about to be shattered.

He glanced around, his eyes scanning the faces in the crowd. He noticed a group of older students huddled in a corner, their expressions grim. They seemed to be watching him, their eyes filled with a mixture of fear and resentment.

As Junhwo reached his locker, he noticed a small, folded piece of paper tucked beneath it. He picked it up, his heart pounding in his chest.

He unfolded the paper, his eyes scanning the message scrawled across it:

"After school. Gym. Or else."

Junhwo's eyes narrowed. A challenge. He crumpled the paper in his fist, a familiar surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins. He didn't know who was behind this, but he wasn't one to back down from a fight. Yeah sure, I won't back down. He thought, looking at the people murmuring.

He knew one thing for sure: the shadows were closing in, and he was ready to meet them head-on.

The rest of the school day passed in a blur. Junhwo found it hard to concentrate, his mind racing with possibilities. Who was behind the challenge? What did they want? And why now?

He tried to focus on his classes, but the faces of his teachers and classmates seemed distant and unreal. He felt like he was living in a movie, watching the events unfold from a detached perspective.

Ha-jun noticed his distraction and tried to cheer him up, but Junhwo brushed him off. He couldn't explain the feeling of dread that was building inside him. He knew that something bad was about to happen, and he didn't want to involve his friend.

As the final bell rang, Junhwo's heart pounded in his chest. He walked towards the gym, his steps heavy and deliberate. He could feel the eyes of the other students on him, their whispers following him like shadows.

He reached the gym doors and hesitated for a moment, taking a deep breath. He knew that whatever was waiting for him on the other side could change his life forever.

He pushed open the doors and stepped inside.

The gym was dimly lit, the only light coming from the windows high above. The air was thick with the smell of sweat and rubber. A group of figures stood in the center of the gym, their faces obscured by the shadows.

As Junhwo stepped further into the gym, one of the figures stepped forward, revealing himself to be Min-soo, the blonde kid he had beaten up the day before. But this time, he wasn't alone. He was surrounded by a group of older, tougher-looking students.

Min-soo smirked, his eyes filled with malice. "So, you decided to show up," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I didn't think you had the guts."

Junhwo didn't respond. He simply stared at Min-soo, his eyes cold and unwavering. He knew that this was more than just a simple fight. This was a test, a challenge to his very existence.

"What do you want now?" Junhwo asked, his voice low and dangerous.

Min-soo laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "I want to teach you a lesson," he said. "You think you can just go around beating people up? You think you're so tough huh? Think again."

"I don't think anything," Junhwo said. "I just do what I have to do. But right now, al I want is to kick your ass once again and wait for you to go running like a coward."

"Well, today you're going to have to do a lot more than you bargained for," Min-soo said, gesturing to the group of students behind him. "We're going to show you what happens when you mess with the wrong people."

Junhwo cracked his knuckles, his eyes fixed on Min-soo. He knew that he was outnumbered, but he wasn't afraid. He had faced worse odds before, and he had always come out victorious.

"Let's just get this over with," Junhwo said, his voice barely a whisper.

Min-soo grinned, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Alright, boys," he said. "Let's show him what we're made of. Beat em up!"

The group of students surged forward, their fists clenched, their eyes filled with anger. Junhwo braced himself, ready to face whatever came his way.
