Private Kuoh Academy
First-Year Division
"Everyone, let me introduce our new transfer student, Edgar. From now on, you'll all be in the same class," said Shizuka Hiratsuka.
"Edgar, why don't you introduce yourself?"
"Hello, everyone. I'm Edgar. I look forward to working with you."
Shizuka blinked.
Well, that's… something.
He didn't really say anything, did he?
"Wow! So cool! So handsome!"
"Just give me a minute—I need all the info on this guy!"
After a brief silence, the classroom erupted into countless screams.
"Yep, definitely an era where looks rule," Shizuka muttered, watching the girls go wild.
For a woman approaching thirty, scenes like this were mildly irritating.
"Alright, you can sit next to Mahiru," she said.
"Got it." Edgar nodded, his eyes flickering briefly.
That name… seemed oddly familiar.
As he walked forward, one girl immediately caught his attention.
Her golden hair shone like sunlight, cascading naturally down to her waist. Her features were delicate and flawless, her pale skin porcelain-smooth. She wasn't tall, but her youthful aura gave her an undeniable charm.
Her slim waist curved gently beneath her uniform, and the black knee-high socks over her legs added a subtle, alluring touch.
"So it's her… Shiina, the little angel," Edgar thought, his eyes lighting up.
Going to school had been the right choice.
Mahiru Shiina, seated properly at her desk, noticed his gaze. Normally, she'd find such attention irritating—but for some reason, she felt a little shy. Blinking, she looked away, embarrassed.
"Get a grip. He's just good-looking. Don't get flustered," she reminded herself quietly, clenching her small fists.
Cute, indeed, Edgar thought as he reached his seat, still sneaking glances at Mahiru.
Meanwhile, the other girls hadn't taken their eyes off him for a second.
"??" Shizuka twitched the corner of her mouth.
She felt like a great white shark had just appeared in a swimming pool. Recalling Edgar's earlier behavior, she muttered under her breath, "This guy… could he be a huge pervert?"
For a moment, she regretted letting him join the Service Club.
"All right, let's begin the lesson."
Shaking off her chaotic thoughts, Shizuka pulled out her textbook and swept a commanding glance across the class. Her presence demanded respect, and though a few girls sneaked peeks at Edgar, the class atmosphere settled into something decent.
For Edgar, it was a somewhat novel experience—attending a real class again—but it didn't take long before he got completely bored. By the end, he was nearly asleep.
By the time class ended, he'd already taken a nap.
"Yep, attending lectures is the best way to nap," Edgar murmured, then decided to approach the "little angel" next to him.
"Edgar, do you like music? I have the newest albums," one girl said.
"Edgar, want some of my snacks?"
Before he could make a move, the girls had already swarmed him.
Edgar was generally patient with the opposite sex, but it did make the next break a little… torturous.
Finally, at lunchtime, he managed to break free from the swarm.
Not that he'd take just anyone. Those girls were attractive, sure, but maybe an 80 out of 100. His true companions? At least 90. His tastes had been spoiled.
"There you are."
At the cafeteria, he spotted Mahiru.
She paused mid-bite, slightly surprised to see him sitting across from her.
"Shiina, fancy meeting you here."
"In a school cafeteria? That's hardly a coincidence," Mahiru replied flatly.
"I'm not here to flirt," Edgar said calmly. "I just thought… you might need a little help."
"Talking to yourself isn't exactly polite, you know," Mahiru said.
"Is that so?" Edgar smiled, gazing into her amber-brown eyes. "But somehow… it looks like your eyes are crying."
Mahiru froze. Could he really see that?
After a moment, she spoke, "No, I don't need help. But… thank you for the offer."
"I know you don't trust me now. But if there ever comes a day when you truly need me… just call. I'll be there."
Edgar then placed a "demon contract" on the table in front of her.
Mahiru instinctively picked it up, looking at it in confusion.
"Demon summoning…?"
She had no idea how to respond.
So the new guy was a little… dramatic.
"See you next time," Edgar said, leaving the cafeteria without another word.
"By the way, I'll need Belmod to cover the afternoon classes."
After calling Belmod, Edgar headed straight for the old school building.
Supernatural Research Club
"Good afternoon, Rias."
"Hmph, you even remembered to come," Rias huffed.
This idiot had been off in another world for days without a word. She was mad—and not easily appeased.
Edgar reached out, wrapping his arms around her slim waist.
"Seems like I've neglected my fiancée. How do you want me to make it up to you?"
Feeling the warmth and hearing his gentle voice, Rias' cheeks flushed.
"You… you wish," she said, breathing heavier, letting out a small sigh—but mentally scolding herself for being so flustered.
"Hahaha, just accept my sincere apology."
With Belmod covering the afternoon, his schedule had cleared up nicely.
"Don't worry. As compensation, I'll help you ascend to the highest demon rank."
Rias' mind went blank. Waves of magical power surged through her, and she barely registered what he was saying.
Outside the door, Akeno Himejima. paused, silently watching the tea she carried.
Soon, her skin flushed pink.
"Phew…" Akeno took a deep breath and quietly left.
"Looks like Akeno left," Edgar said, feigning regret.
"You… um… don't tell me you're also… after Akeno?"
Rias, noticing Akeno had gone, exhaled in relief, then shot Edgar a suspicious look.
Edgar opened his mouth to respond, but Akeno had already returned.
"???" Rias stared, utterly confused.
"..."
