MHGA Chapter 378 – Traces of the Shagaru Magala and a Conversation Between Girls

In an area far from Mitakihara City—outside the usual range where Mami Tomoe and the other magical girls of Mitakihara fought Witches—there existed a Witch's Barrier. Much like Kairo Retsu's team, who planned to make use of the Barrier's properties, this one too was being exploited.

Within the Barrier, the Witch's Familiars had already been utterly slaughtered through sheer brute force. Only the Witch itself remained, barely sustaining the Barrier.

The culprit behind this devastation… was a being that had suddenly intruded into the Barrier.

Shagaru Magala now had the Witch pinned to the ground with its claws. And as the Witch repeatedly attempted to regenerate its body, the Shagaru Magala would mercilessly tear it apart with its fangs to feed.

Yet the Shagaru Magala refrained from killing the Witch outright. It too had realized that, if such an energy-rich prey were killed, the Barrier that served as its temporary resting space would vanish.

Thus, until it had replenished enough energy and recovered, it had no intention of lingering in the outside world.

After narrowly escaping the siege of the Hunters, the Shagaru Magala had engaged in a desperate battle with the Chaotic Gore Magala in this new world.

That clash between the two had left the Shagaru Magala with even graver wounds. In the end, the Chaotic Gore Magala managed to escape.

Though enraged, the Shagaru Magala began seeking a place to rest and recover—and prey that could aid in that recovery—so as to avoid any other threats that might pursue it.

It quickly discovered that Witches made for energy-rich prey. After several consecutive hunts, the Shagaru Magala also realized it could use Witch Barriers as temporary shelters.

Following the lingering scent trails of Witches, it located a particularly powerful one—rich with enough energy to sustain it.

The Shagaru Magala now waited for this prey to appear… all while silently spreading the Frenzy Virus from within its body.

More aggressive Witches, after consuming human lifeforce, yielded greater energy for the Shagaru Magala's recovery.

This was also why many Witches began to act more violently after being infected by the Frenzy Virus.

Unaware of this truth, the magical girls could only sense a change in the Witches' behavior—and were now struggling to defeat Frenzied Witches.

Meanwhile, with Mami Tomoe…

"Be careful."

Inside a Witch's Barrier, Hibiki Tachibana cracked her knuckles, then delivered a straight punch that utterly pulverized the Familiar attempting to ambush Sayaka.

Elsewhere, Mami Tomoe felt something for the first time…

The realization that team battles could actually feel so reassuring.

Though Uno Saki was a bit peculiar as a magical girl, that extremely muscular, almost gorilla-like body of hers was currently wielding a magic staff and singlehandedly withstanding the brunt of the Familiar swarm.

Mami felt that all she needed to do was perch at a high vantage point and snipe the Witch with her flintlock rifle.

It was almost too easy. And strangely… enjoyable.

This experience of cooperating and fighting alongside others unexpectedly brought Mami a sense of joy—as though it were healing some of her long-held loneliness.

"Outta my way! Outta my way!"

Uno Saki, on the other hand, wasn't thinking too deeply. She was currently using her "magic" staff (physical) to beat the charging Familiars into pixelated blobs.

The small blood-storage vial embedded at the tip of her staff had now been tainted black, mixed with a strange dark substance extracted from the Familiars.

Finally, Mami conjured a giant flintlock rifle with her ribbons and blew the Witch away. The Barrier vanished along with the falling Grief Seed.

"It's finally over…" Uno Saki exhaled, releasing her transformation. The pink-haired muscle magical girl in a poofy skirt reverted back to a normal high school girl with pink hair.

"There's a Grief Seed," Mami said, picking up the item. "You two… probably don't need this, right?"

"I think what I used up was stamina… and my dignity," Uno Saki replied, turning her gaze hollowly toward the void.

"I didn't expend much of anything, really. Ever since we started receiving Hunter benefits, even my transformation problems are gradually resolving!" Hibiki gave Mami a peace sign.

"What kind of monsters do you girls fight in your own worlds?" Sayaka asked with particular curiosity about these magical girls from other worlds. "And your other team members too…"

"I fight monsters called 'Youma,'" Uno Saki sighed. "They look… like this."

She casually picked up a stick and began drawing in the dirt. Before long, she had sketched what looked like an adorably cute mascot-like creature's head.

"That's not scary at all! It's actually kinda—" Sayaka didn't finish her sentence, because then she saw what Uno Saki drew underneath the mascot head:

A hyper-muscular body like a world champion bodybuilder's.

Sayaka instinctively merged the cute head and the burly torso in her mind… and shivered.

This Uno Saki-senpai really had an iron will in a certain way…

Hibiki Tachibana also explained the kind of monsters she had to deal with:

Noise.

Randomly appearing, mortal enemies of humanity. Nearly immune to conventional firearms, they could only be defeated at the moment of attacking a human—and only by the Symphogear-wielding "warrior-maidens."

Upon learning that humans attacked by Noise would disintegrate into ash along with them, Mami and Sayaka both wore expressions of sympathy.

Mami even sighed, realizing that magical girls from other worlds lived difficult lives too.

As their conversation continued, the girls grew closer. Mami and Sayaka even began asking about the other Hunters.

When they heard that the Hunters included righteous heroes like the Shield Hero, Sayaka's eyes sparkled—especially after hearing he had blue hair like hers.

The existence of Hunters from various other worlds amazed both Mami and Sayaka.

Strange heroes from isekai, warriors from the 20th century, demon-slayers from the Taisho era… These identities piqued the girls' curiosity.

"That's so cool," Sayaka said with a touch of envy. "If I could… I'd want to become a magical girl who protects others too…"
