[A horn sounds in the distance. Members of the Night's Watch can be heard shouting frantically. The owl screeches. Cut to Thenn Warg whose eyes turn back to normal. The Wildlings get up and look at the hill. The owl flies away as the Night's Watch prepare for battle. JON SNOW walks out to the edge of The Wall and looks down upon Flames in the distance. The Night's Watch light torches preparing for battle. Barrels are rolled to the edge of The Wall. Barrels are rolled into place]
"There we go, boys. That's one. There's two. Come on, let's get the next lot. That's the last of the oil, Ser Alliser."
"A hundred thousand you say?"
"Yes sir."
"You can say it if you like. We should've sealed the tunnel while we had the chance as you suggested."
"Too late to agree now" Lyanna scowled. Her son gave them the warning, told them what they could do and he was not listened to! It was too late for this.
"Do you know what leadership means, Lord Snow? It means that the person in charge gets second-guessed by every clever little twat with a mouth. But if he starts second-guessing himself, that's the end. For him. For the clever little twats. For everyone."
All those who experienced the pains of leadership knew it well, knew the toll it took on a person, and knew how the awareness of every decision would plague them every single day of their lives, even the successful ones. Maybe they could have done better, maybe they could have done something slightly different. Such thoughts would never leave their heads.
It's not an easy job, no matter how little a person shows his troubles to his people.
"This is not the end. Not for us. Not if you lot do your duty for however long it takes to beat them back. And then you get to go on hating me and I get to go on wishing your Wildling whore had finished the job."
Jon snorted. He would be lying to himself if he said he hadn't felt some respect for Ser Alliser Thorne after that speech when he wat hed it the first time but now he just feel that this guy is too uptight.
[SAM and GILLY are walking down a hall. SAM unlocks a door and they both enter. The room is filled with supplies. GILLY lays her baby on a sack of something. SAM turns to leave, but GILLY stops him.]
"What are you going to do out there?"
"Help my brothers."
"How?! You going to fight the Free Folk when they come? They'll kill you. In Molestown they killed everyone."
"I can't just hide here with you while they're fighting out there."
"The boy's gained some courage" Olenna said with a small nod.
"Why not? You won't matter up there, you will down here."
"Look. I am a man of the Night's Watch, Gilly. I swore an oath to defend The Wall and I have to keep it because that's what men do."
Olenna's smile was softer. The boy reminded her of her late husband. A soft man but with a strong core. Even their figures matched!
[SAM kisses GILLY. SAM turns around and leaves the room. Outside the Night's Watch is still getting ready for battle. PYP sets some arrows up then stands back, scared]
"There's a lot more Wildlings on the other side of the wall than this side. We've got us some weapons and things. This is the perfect place for us to be."
"I've never thrown a spear before. I've never held a sword with a proper edge. There's no place for me to be. You're not afraid?"
"Of course I'm afraid, there's a band of Wildlings coming to kill us."
"A man can only be brave when he is afraid" Bran mumbled. It was the words his father said at the very beginning of all of this.
"Well if you're afraid of a band of Wildlings, how in seven hells did you manage to kill a White Walker?"
"I didn't know I was going to kill it, but I had to do something I didn't have any choice, he was going to kill Gilly and take the baby. If someone had asked me my name right then, I wouldn't have known. I wasn't Samwell Tarly anymore. I wasn't a Steward in the Night's Watch or son of Randyll Tarly or any of that. I was nothing at all. And when you're nothing at all, there's no more reason to be afraid."
Robert smirked. He was the same when he went to combat. At that moment he was not Robert Baratheon of Storm's End, or the King, or some other fancy title. He was nothing, and nothing has no fears and nothing to lose. Nothing can fight with all because that is all nothing has, the will and fire to fight.
[YGRITTE looks up at Castle Black. She sees SAM in the tower and she runs down the hill toward the other Wildlings]
"Fat load of guarding they're doing if the enemy can just spy on them like that!" Brandon the Elder snapped his nerves on edge. Fucking hell...
"Most of their men are up top. Didn't count more than twenty down there. Leftovers. They've got a little fat one and a little bony one manning the front."
"How high are the walls?"
"Well, we'll be up and over before they know what's happened.
"Let's kill some Crows!"
[The Wildlings head towards Castle Black with a cheer. Overhead shot pans to show the castle, The Wall, and then the flames in the distance. MANCE RAYDER'S Forces are seen stomping and yelling through the woods. A giant rides a giant mammoth. The Night's Watch perched upon the wall looks down at them in awe]
The people in the hall were equally in awe of the scene.
"Archers knock, everyone else hold."
[The archers get ready to shoot, Grenn accidentally drops a barrel]
Jon smiled a little.
"I said knock and hold you cunts! Does knock mean draw?!"
"No Ser!"
"Does fucking hold mean fucking drop?!"
"No Ser!"
"You all plan to die here tonight?"
"No Ser!"
"That's very good to hear. Draw!"
"If this were not a vision of the future" Robb whispered to Jon, "it would make for a great play."
Jon snorted.
