The Heavenly Demon Fox moved first.
Kurama closed the distance between them in a single bound, nine tails blazing with white fire. His jaws snapped toward Madara's throat, and when the Uchiha dodged, a tail swept in from the side to catch him across the chest.
Madara blocked with a Truth-Seeking Ball, but the impact sent him sliding backward. His feet carved furrows in the dead earth.
"You've grown stronger," he said. "Absorbing the fragments of the Ten-Tails' chakra, catalyzing them with your own. Clever."
Kurama didn't respond with words. Another tail lashed out, then another, driving Madara back toward the God Tree. Kushina watched from where she lay, too weak to stand but able to feel every blow through the bond they still shared.
Can you match him? she asked.
Close. He's still stronger, but not by much. Kurama ducked under a Truth-Seeking Ball and raked his claws across Madara's guard. I need you with me.
I can barely move.
You don't need to move. You need to fight.
She understood. The seal was gone, but the bond remained. She could still channel his power, still act through him. Her body was broken, but her will wasn't.
Kushina reached through their connection and took hold.
Golden chains erupted from Kurama's body, wrapping around his white fur before shooting toward Madara. The Uchiha deflected two, dodged three more, but the sixth caught his arm and the seventh his leg.
"Adamantine chains," Madara observed, straining against the bonds. "Even now, you haven't given up."
Kushina's voice came from Kurama's throat, layered over his growl. "Uzumaki never falter."
She pulled the chains tight, and Kurama lunged.
They collided with force that shattered the ground beneath them. Madara broke free of the chains with a pulse of chakra, but Kurama was already inside his guard, jaws closing around his shoulder. The Uchiha drove an elbow into the fox's skull, creating enough space to form a Truth-Seeking Ball in his palm.
Kushina called the chains back and wrapped them around the sphere before it could detonate. The technique collapsed in on itself, nullified by her sealing power.
"Impressive coordination," Madara said. Blood ran down his arm from where Kurama's teeth had found flesh. "You've truly become one being."
He moved faster then, Rinne-Sharingan spinning as he launched a barrage of attacks. Kurama matched him blow for blow, tails intercepting strikes while his claws sought openings. The God Tree shuddered around them, roots recoiling from the force of their exchange.
His Limbo clones, Kushina warned. She could sense them through the bond—shadows moving in dimensions she couldn't see.
I know. Kurama twisted, letting an invisible strike pass through the space where his neck had been. I can see them now. The transformation opened senses I didn't have before.
Three Limbo clones converged on him at once. Kurama's tails intercepted them, driving them back while his chains kept Madara occupied. The clones couldn't be destroyed, but they could be outmaneuvered.
Madara's eyes narrowed. "You can perceive Limbo."
"I can do more than that."
Kurama opened his mouth, and a sphere of compressed chakra formed between his jaws—dense, white, crackling with power.
He fired.
Madara raised both hands, Truth-Seeking Balls merging into a shield. The blast struck it dead center and detonated with force that sent shockwaves rippling across the battlefield.
When the light faded, Madara stood in a crater, his shield cracked but intact. His robes were gone, burned away to reveal pale skin marked with black patterns.
"Enough," he said.
The world shifted.
One moment they were on the battlefield, surrounded by the God Tree's roots. The next, they stood in an endless expanse of ice—frozen spires jutting from a glacier that stretched to every horizon. The cold hit Kushina through her bond with Kurama, sharp enough to slow her thoughts.
He shifted dimensions, Kurama said.
Madara floated above the ice, Rinne-Sharingan blazing.
Bones erupted from his palms—white, sharp, radiating a chakra that made Kushina's senses recoil. He hurled them at Kurama in a barrage.
Kurama dodged, tails whipping through the air as he evaded the projectiles. Where the bones struck the ice, it didn't shatter—it dissolved, leaving nothing behind.
Don't let those touch us.
He launched himself at Madara, closing the distance before another volley could form. His jaws snapped toward the Uchiha's throat, but Madara vanished—reappearing behind him, bones already extending from his fingertips.
Kushina's chains caught them before they could reach Kurama's spine. The contact burned through the golden links, dissolving them on touch, but it bought enough time for Kurama to spin and rake his claws across Madara's chest.
Blood sprayed across the ice. Madara staggered back.
The world shifted again.
Now they stood in a desert of endless sand, the sun blazing overhead with killing heat. Then a dimension of crushing gravity that drove Kurama to his knees. Then a sea of acid that hissed against his fur before Kushina could wrap him in protective chakra.
Madara was cycling through dimensions, never giving them a chance to adapt. Each shift cost him chakra, but he had more to spare than they did.
We need to end this, Kushina said.
I know.
Kurama gathered himself and leaped at Madara just as the world shifted again—back to the original battlefield, the God Tree looming above them. The familiar terrain gave Kushina an idea.
He's trying to escape, Kurama said as Madara's Rinne-Sharingan pulsed again, reality bending around him.
Don't let him.
Kushina poured everything she had through their bond. Her chains erupted in every direction, anchoring themselves to the God Tree's roots, to the earth, to the fabric of reality itself, locking space in place.
The portal stuttered. Madara's eyes widened.
"You sealed dimensional travel?"
"I sealed everything."
Her chains wrapped around his wrists, his ankles, his throat. The sealing array spread across the ground beneath him, glowing with golden light.
Madara strained against the bonds. The chains groaned, links stretching—
Then he began to break free.
"Impressive fūinjutsu," he said, chakra flaring as the chains cracked. "But I have more chakra than you could ever—"
Yellow light flashed behind him.
Minato appeared in the air, one hand pressed against Madara's back. The Hokage's face was pale, his body trembling with exhaustion, but his eyes were clear.
"Flying Thunder God," he said.
And he teleported Madara directly into Kurama's jaws.
The fox's teeth closed around the Uchiha's torso. Kushina's chains followed, wrapping around every limb, every joint, sealing his chakra points one by one. Her scythe materialized in her grip, blazing with the combined power of the Heavenly Demon Fox.
Madara looked up at them, Truth-Seeking Balls dissolving as Kushina's seals cut off his access to them.
"Well played," he said.
The scythe fell.
It carved through his chest and into the Ten-Tails' chakra. Kushina's chains followed the blade, latching onto that power and pulling.
The tailed beast chakra responded. Kurama called to it, and it answered.
Power flooded out of Madara and into the Heavenly Demon Fox. The chakra of eight tailed beasts, torn free. Kurama absorbed it all.
Madara crumbled.
White skin turned gray, then black, then began to flake away. The Rinne-Sharingan dimmed, its pattern fading from the moon overhead.
"I failed," he whispered. "I failed... Hashirama"
His eyes found Kushina's. She expected defiance, or rage, but saw only exhaustion.
"The dream dies with me," he said. "Please... find a way..."
He dissolved into ash, scattering across the battlefield.
Above them, the red sky flickered. The God Tree shuddered, its roots releasing their grip on the cocoons that held the world's population. Across every nation, people began to stir, waking from dreams they would never fully remember.
The Infinite Tsukuyomi ended.
Minato collapsed the moment it was over, his body giving out completely. Kurama caught him with a tail before he could hit the ground, lowering him beside Nagato's unconscious form.
Is it done? Kushina asked. Her consciousness was fading.
It's done.
Kurama padded toward her broken body, his massive form shrinking as he moved. By the time he reached her, he was human-sized again—white fur traced with red, nine tails curling around them both.
He lay down beside her, his warmth seeping into her battered flesh.
Only one thought occupied them both: a little boy with red hair and fox ears.
A/N:
This is it. To anyone still--amazingly--paying attention to this story, this is the final chapter. I know it might seem sudden, but I think everything is done that needs to be done, and this is how I envisioned it. For a short epilogue, and I laid clues about this throughout the story, Kushina returns to Mount Myoboku, reestablishing her clan there permanently. They live there peacefully, completely secluded from the world. In fact, outside of Minato, no one really knows if they're even still alive.
As for the fate of the Shinobi world, after a long period of time and another series of events, Naruto takes his place as the child of destiny and becomes the savior of the world, ending the cycle of hatred. I didn't have Kushina do that for reasons which I think should be fairly clear if you've read up until this point. She's not a hero, and never wanted to be one.
Anyway! This was my first time writing anything, even fan fiction. There were a lot of problems along the way and there were times I never thought I'd actually finish it despite all of them. So, if you've stuck around somehow, then thanks for reading!
