A year passed in the blink of an eye.
During that time, Whis guided Son Goku, enabling him to advance tremendously in his understanding of Ultra Instinct.
Super Perfect Cell also underwent a Potential Unlock performed by Old Kai.
Gohan frequently sparred with Trunks.
Through these training sessions, both of them had already reached the peak of their physical strength at their current stage.
Beerus taught Vegeta the profound principles of the Self-Ultra Ego, continuously raising his upper limit for withstanding destructive energy.
Additionally, under Whis's guidance, Super Broly gained better control over his violent aura.
He was Whis's second main focus of training, after Son Goku.
However, Whis was closely observing yet another person.
Not just Whis, but Old Kai as well.
That person was Trunks.
For some unknown reason, Whis sensed something special about Trunks, similar to what he felt about Son Goku.
Whenever Trunks sparred with Gohan these days, Whis watched Trunks's every move.
There was something special about Trunks.
What Whis didn't know was that it came from the extraordinary, transcendent nature he had inherited from the Turtle School.
Whis was certain that the feeling coming from Trunks was exactly like the one Son Goku exhibited.
If Son Goku could comprehend Ultra Instinct, then Trunks should be able to as well.
With this thought in mind, Whis slowly approached Trunks.
In an instant, he appeared beside Trunks and Gohan.
Gohan and Trunks, who had been fighting intensely, both stopped at the same time.
"Mr. Whis?!" Gohan asked in confusion.
Trunks was likewise surprised by Whis's sudden appearance.
Whis kept his eyes half-closed and smiled lightly. "Don't stop. Keep going."
Gohan felt a little at a loss. He turned his head to look at Trunks. The two brothers exchanged a glance and instantly understood each other.
They swung their fists toward Whis at the same time.
No matter how they attacked, however, they couldn't touch Whis at all. Gohan transformed directly into his Beast form out of necessity.
His attacks became far more ferocious, but Whis simply dodged even faster in return. Trunks didn't know what Whis was trying to do, but he knew Whis had his reasons.
Since he knew that Ultra Instinct was the standard ability of angels, he simply stopped attacking.
He let Gohan deal with Whis alone.
However, Whis had no intention of letting Trunks off so easily.
The next second, Whis switched from defense to offense, using a gentle redirection technique to send Gohan flying directly.
Then, in the next instant, Whis moved over to Trunks's side.
His massive staff began striking Trunks fiercely over and over again.
For a moment, Trunks couldn't react at all. What was Whis trying to do?
The next second, Trunks's body was forced backward repeatedly in an awkward position.
As the speed of the staff increased, so did the speed at which Trunks retreated.
"Mr. Whis?" Gohan asked from the side, puzzled.
The next second, Whis said with a smile, "Trunks, close your eyes! Just like Son Goku did!"
At that moment, Trunks seemed to understand what Whis meant.
Was this to help him grasp Ultra Instinct like Son Goku did?
Honestly, this was beyond Trunks's expectations.
He had never even thought about Ultra Instinct before. But since Whis said it like that, he must have had his reasons.
Trunks imitated Son Goku and slowly closed his eyes.
Everything around him began to fade. He focused on his breathing.
He felt the movement of the staff, and his body began to move on its own.
Gohan, standing to the side, was instantly shocked by what he saw.
"Th-This state?!" Seeing this scene unfold, Whis became even more certain of the thought in his heart.
However, in the very next second, Whis's face was struck hard by a blow.
Although Trunks closed his eyes, he did not achieve the same effect as Son Goku.
Bang!
The next instant, Trunks was sent flying.
Whis frowned slightly and muttered, "Could I have picked the wrong person?"
Meanwhile, Beerus finished Vegeta's special training and came over to Whis's side to watch.
"Ultra Instinct isn't easy to master. This kid, like me, is just using his senses to feel things out."
"Whis, even you misjudge people sometimes."
There was a faintly teasing tone in Beerus's voice. Then he added, "Why don't you just let me teach him how to use our God of Destruction skills?"
However, right at that moment, Trunks suddenly stood up in the distance.
Clenching his fists, he shouted toward Whis, "Again!"
"Good boy! Not bad at all! Whis, keep going with him! As expected of Vegeta's son!" Beerus's spirits instantly soared.
Seeing Trunks's fighting spirit, Whis swung his staff toward him once again.
Yet Trunks was sent flying once again.
And so it went on. No one knew how much time had passed.
Trunks kept repeating the same cycle: He would be blasted away, then stand back up.
This left everyone staring in a daze.
"Trunks...what is this?" Son Goku asked, looking puzzled. By this point, he had gained a new understanding of Ultra Instinct.
Bulla, Son Goten, Gohan, and Super Broly all wore equally confused expressions.
Only Vegeta stared unwaveringly at what was happening. He knew Trunks would learn something new from this special training.
Super Perfect Cell was also drawn over by the commotion. He looked anxiously at Trunks and shouted,
"Boss! What are you doing? Practicing how to take hits?!"
However, Trunks kept his eyes closed, ignoring the strange looks from everyone.
He only shouted to them, "Don't mind me. You all keep training. Oh right, Brother Gohan… starting now, you spar with Little Cell!"
"Mr. Whis! Let's go somewhere farther away!"
Whis nodded, then moved out of everyone's sight together with Trunks, heading to a more distant place.
…
Time passed bit by bit.
Day after day, Trunks carried out special training with his eyes closed.
He didn't even know how much time had gone by.
On this day, everyone had fallen asleep. Trunks dragged his badly battered body as he climbed up from the ground.
In his trembling hands, he was holding a staff.
That's right, this was the very staff that Whis carried. He was simply far too exhausted.
There was a smile on his face. Finally, with a loud thud, he collapsed and fell asleep.
In the distance, an old father was watching this scene with gratified eyes.
The corner of Vegeta's mouth lifted. He flew over to Trunks's side and carried him into the resting room.
