"It's tomorrow, right?" Jiang Qi's low voice broke the quiet as he lay on his back, staring fixedly at the ceiling.
"Mm. I told you I won't change my mind," Shen Yi replied, his own voice hushed as he, too, gazed upward at the shadows above.
After a few heavy seconds of silence, Jiang Qi murmured, "Thanks."
For the past two days, Shen Yi had been meticulously preparing for their return to the city. With Nico's assistance, it would be much easier to enter without instantly alarming Old Man Jiang.
"Can I ask you a question?" Shen Yi spoke up before letting his eyes drift closed.
"Go ahead."
"Why do you listen to me when you could just leave? You have no memory of me, and for all you know, I could be lying about everything."
Jiang Qi listened keenly, then shifted his weight to face Shen Yi. His eyes suddenly shone with a strange, hidden brightness that Shen Yi missed, as his own eyes were still shut tight.
