Chapter 212 - Enemies Bound by the Chains of Supremacy

Enel had originally planned to destroy Skypiea (Upper Yard) the same way he had obliterated his homeland, Birka—and then depart gracefully aboard the Ark Maxim.

But before his departure, he encountered an unexpected group—the Straw Hat Pirates.

His "priests" fought them first and were all swiftly defeated.

Enel, unable to tolerate such an affront to a being who called himself "God," descended into battle personally. He struck down several of the Straw Hats himself, utterly suppressing them.

Satisfied, Enel intended to resume his journey aboard Maxim—but before he could, he was stopped by Straw Hat Luffy, and the two clashed in a fierce battle.

The supposedly invincible Enel had never anticipated that "Straw Hat" Luffy, the Rubber Man, would be immune to his lightning. In the end, Enel was soundly defeated.

Humiliated and enraged, he fled Skypiea aboard the Ark Maxim, sailing off into the distance.

By some twist of fate, he truly did reach the so-called "Endless Earth"—a place known to others as the Moon, a world inhabited by tiny moonfolk.

There, Enel easily made himself their "God."

But just as he had grown weary of Birka and Skypiea, Enel soon tired of the "Endless Earth" as well.

Eventually, he decided to descend to the Blue Sea—to rule over this oceanic world and, most importantly, to exact revenge on Straw Hat Luffy.

Now, Enel's confidence had fully returned.

He was certain that if he met Luffy again, he would crush the "Rubber Man" once and for all.

Thus, every time Enel encountered strangers, his first question was always:

"Where is Straw Hat Luffy?"

Yet in the week since his arrival in the Blue Sea, he had learned nothing of Luffy's whereabouts.

Today, at last, he seemed to have found people who knew something.

"What's this? You don't want to tell me?"

Seeing everyone remain silent, Enel's smile twisted into something cruel.

"It seems I'll need to provide you with a little… incentive, before you're willing to talk."

The murderous tone in his voice sent a shiver through the "Supernovas." They immediately braced themselves, wary and ready for battle.

Enel merely sneered.

"Even if I give you time to prepare, when facing a God, humans are still weak and powerless."

Sparks of lightning danced across his body, crackling violently.

Capone Bege, his stubbled lips curled into a snarl, drew a pistol from his waist—but before he could even cock it, a bolt of lightning in the shape of a spear struck his abdomen.

His body convulsed, paralyzed, before collapsing to the ground.

In the blink of an eye, Enel was standing right in front of him.

From nearby, Jewelry Bonney gasped as Bege fell. Acting on instinct, she launched forward, swinging her fist toward Enel's back, hoping to use her Devil Fruit power to age him into helplessness.

Enel tilted his head slightly, eyes sliding toward her.

"Such a dangerous thought you have there."

Bonney's eyes widened in shock.

Enel sidestepped her blow with ease, then spun his golden staff with blinding speed, smashing it squarely across Bonney's face.

The pink-haired woman was sent flying, crashing to the ground. The electric current coursing through the staff left her body twitching, unable to move.

Kidd, Hawkins, Drake, Apoo, and Killer exchanged glances.

They could all tell: this man was no ordinary foe. His power rivaled, perhaps even exceeded, that of a Warlord of the Sea.

So they struck together, setting aside their rivalries.

Magnetic repulsion, voodoo effigies, savage Zoan power, sonic shockwaves, and scythe strikes—every technique they had unleashed at once.

Even the fiercest of pirates would have struggled against such a barrage.

But Enel was astonishingly powerful.

He evaded their attacks with contemptuous ease, then rapped the drums on his back with his staff.

From them burst a bird of lightning, shrieking as it tore through the air, striking each of them down one after another.

Apoo and Killer fell first.

Then Hawkins, the Wara Wara no Mi user.

His Devil Fruit allowed him to transfer damage he received to straw effigies linked to others.

But with his allies at his side, he couldn't afford to harm them—and so he fought head-on in his straw form, only to be crushed regardless.

Next to fall was Eustass Kidd, his expression filled with disbelief and despair.

Just as Luffy's rubber body had once negated Enel's lightning, now Enel's lightning perfectly countered Kidd's magnetic power—a cruel reversal of fortune.

Kidd was horrified to find his powers short-circuited—his magnetism rendered useless, as if his body were bound by seastone cuffs.

The last to remain standing was the thick-skinned Zoan user, X Drake.

But even he couldn't endure for long. Enel's lightning-charged kick struck him squarely, sending him crashing to the ground, his sword and axe clattering beside him.

"Hahahaha!" Enel laughed joyously, planting one bare foot beside Kidd's fallen form, looking down at him with smug delight.

"It's been a long time since I've had such a good warm-up."

Defeating the "Supernovas" was, to Enel, nothing more than a warm-up exercise.

His words filled them with humiliation. Rage burned in their eyes, though none could move.

Kidd, gritting his teeth, grabbed Enel's ankle in defiance, trying to pull him down—only for Enel to casually swing his golden staff and send him flying once more.

"That leaves the two of you."

Enel turned his gaze toward Davy Jones and Kuro, who had been standing silently by.

"You're strange… could it be that you, too, possess Mantra?"

The term "Mantra," in Enel's tongue, referred to Observation Haki—the ability to sense others' presence and intent.

On Sky Island, it was called Mantra; in the Wano Country, Armament Haki was known as Ryuo.

Enel had mastered Observation Haki instinctively and, with the aid of his lightning powers, elevated it to an extreme—able to hear the very thoughts of others.

That was why he had so easily evaded the Supernovas' attacks.

Every one of their intentions had been laid bare to him.

Through Mantra, he had already heard Kuro's inner thoughts—the true reason he and Davy Jones had not intervened.

From Kuro's mind, Enel learned that they intended to let him teach the Supernovas a painful lesson, to humble them and make them more obedient afterward.

He also heard that Kuro now planned to fight—and knew exactly what tactics he meant to use, and that he possessed Haki.

"Haki?" Enel murmured. "So that's what this power is called in the Blue Sea…"

Before Drake had even fallen, Kuro had already drawn out his Cat Claws—and now all five blades gleamed coldly in the sunlight.

Hearing Enel mutter to himself, Kuro hesitated briefly, pushing up his glasses with his palm.

How does he know what I was just thinking? Could it be… he can hear my thoughts?

"You're right," Enel said aloud, answering Kuro's unspoken question. "I can hear your thoughts. You're clever—to have realized it so quickly. Now, come… show me this 'Haki' you speak of. Let's see if it truly holds any power worthy of threatening a God."

Kuro frowned, hesitation gone.

In a flash, he used Soru to vanish and reappear before Enel, five Haki-clad claws stabbing forward like a Gatling gun, aimed straight at Enel's chest.

Enel slipped aside, eyes narrowing.

"I can sense danger from you. Better to test you first."

He struck the drums on his back once again with his staff—this time, a dragon of lightning burst forth, twice as powerful and far more terrifying than the bird before.

The thunder dragon roared, hurtling straight toward Kuro.

Zzzzz-crackle—!

Kuro didn't flinch. With his right-hand claws, he slashed upward, tearing straight through the dragon. The creature shattered like glass, lightning scattering into the air like falling rain.

"You actually caught lightning itself…" Enel's brows rose, surprise flickering in his eyes. "It seems this so-called 'Armament Haki' truly does hold power capable of threatening even my divine body."

He straightened, lightning flashing in his eyes.

"But I cannot—will not—allow anyone to threaten the body of a God! You must all be eradicated!"

His aura exploded outward—thunder roared as lightning cloaked his body like armor.

In an instant, he transformed into a giant of pure thunder.

"I am the Thunder God, Enel!" he thundered, vanishing in a flash and reappearing right before Kuro.

"The God who descends from the heavens!"
