Chapter 211 - Chapter 211 : Family Time Again

"Delicious as always, darling. How do you make it."

Mebuki Haruno grinned ear to ear at the excellent breakfast her son had just cooked up for them.

He doesn't do that often, especially now since he's always out at his ninja duty, but whenever he does, the entire family just couldn't get enough of it.

"Whoever marries you will be a lucky girl." Mebuki teased, earning an eye roll from Sukuna. It was their usual back and forth, a mother trying to ensure her son continues the family line in future.

Sage knows kids at this age should be falling head over heels over girls his age, and here was her son, not even a flicker of interest towards the better sex.

Sukuna could surely like to channel his inner Naoya to refute that statement, but since he didn't know what her mother was saying, he remained silent.

Morning settled gently over the Haruno household, sunlight filtering through the thin curtains and resting warmly across the table. The scent of food still lingered in the air, rich and savory, a quiet testament to Sukuna's effort.

And every face around the table looked very satisfied by it.

Their mother leaned back slightly, letting out a soft breath. "I'll admit," she said, glancing toward Sukuna with a faint smile, "you're a better cook than me."

"Admit it? I thought at this point it was an unspoken understanding between us." Sukuna's brow raised in a teasing tone.

Mebuki's eyebrow twitched, "Did someone ever told you, you talk too much. Can't you take the compliment in silence when someone gives you one, brat."

"Ah, there is our mother, almost thought you were secretly replaced."

Kizashi on the side chuckled at the exchange. Time spent with his family like this had been too few recently. Far too few.

Sukuna rested his chin on his palm, laziness in his posture, though there was a flicker of amusement in his eyes.

Across from him, Sakura said nothing. She kept her head down, focused on her food while occasionally throwing resentful glances at the boy.

She sat stiffly, poking at what little remained of her breakfast. She hadn't complained once, which in itself was unnatural. No critique, no offhand comment, no bickering—just silence.

Of course Mebuki Haruno was going to notice it sooner or later.

"Sakura dear," she called gently, though there was a knowing edge beneath it, "you've been quiet all morning. That's not like you."

Sakura's shoulders tensed. "I'm fine," she replied quickly, too quickly, her gaze refusing to lift.

"Fine?" their mother echoed, raising a brow. "You've barely looked up once, and you keep glancing at your brother like he's about to steal your food."

Sakura flushed immediately and shook her head. "I'm not— I wasn't—"

Her eyes flicked, just for a second, toward Sukuna as if asking for backup.

The boy just sent a teasing smile back which internally enraged her and made her blush even more.

'Damn it, stop thinking about him you idiot.' Sakura internally chided.

Mebuki clearly saw the teasing look Sukuna seemed to give to her sister and got even more curious.

Sakura refused to even lift her head so helplessly she had to turn to her son.

Sukuna's smile just turned brighter, straightening just a little, he said, "It's nothing, it's about her kissing her dear big brother."

Sakura's eyes snapped toward him. She felt her heart stop there.

'Is this idiot really telling them ?'

Their parents froze for a moment, did they hear it wrong?

"It happened in the Forest of Death, both our teams were working together and suddenly a strong enemy attacked us. I had to buy them time to get away. By the time I came back from dealing with said enemy, my cute little sister here was a crying mess, she threw herself at me the first time she saw me, thought I was dead or something."

"Crying, shaking, hugging me, while planting kisses on my face like I came back from death."

Sakura's hammering heart finally calmed down and then she sent him a vicious glare. Most of what he said was true, outside the kissing part. At least not in the Forest of Death.

Sakura clenched her fist, realising the boy intentionally gave her the scare.

Sakura's face turned bright red. "I did not!"

Sukuna let out a quiet chuckle. "Ten minutes," he added, raising a finger as if making a precise correction. "You didn't let go for ten whole minutes. I was starting to think you forgot how."

"That didn't happen!" Sakura snapped, though her voice wavered, lacking any real conviction. Most likely that everything happened outside her kissing him on the face like he said.

"You were— you looked— I thought you were—"

"Dead?" Sukuna finished for her, the grin on his face widening ever so slightly.

She sputtered, completely unable to recover. She really thought that and she was worried sick.

Seeing Sukuna's teasing face, Mebuki Haruno finally couldn't take it and spoke, unusually louder than she should have.

"That's not a joking matter."

Her face, which earlier looked curious and shocked at the absurd statement, turned into a worry-filled mess when she heard that.

"You were attacked by an enemy shinobi. And you held them back alone." Every time she spoke her voice rose just a tad bit.

"Relax, I'm fine. Your son is too strong for you to worry about me over some fodder." Sukuna arrogantly stated.

His parents didn't share the sentiment though. Kizashi didn't say anything but it was clear that he was worried, and Mebuki wished to but didn't know what to say, this was their job after all.

"You didn't have to do it. Why did it have to be you." Mebuki added.

"Because I'm the strongest. And if I were to leave this job to anyone else, that person would have died." Sukuna added, serious for once.

He wasn't wrong, who else would have been able to kill the Snake Sannin if not him. He doubts even Hiruzen is capable of that feat.

The way he said it was absolute and brought an end to the discussion regarding that matter between them. However, the worry for their children's lives lingered in both Kizashi's and Mebuki's hearts.

Part of them wished they hadn't taken this life.

Sukuna too knew what was going on inside their minds, he would like to assure them that he was fine, however, just words wouldn't do much. This is just a feeling they have to accept as parents of two shinobi of the leaf.

"Oh come on, if you guys are going to become like this every time we share our shinobi life with you two, then it would get awkward real soon to the point we might just stop sharing things with each other..." Sukuna pointed out, irritated at how troublesome this subject was.

"We...we just worry son. You know, it's hard for a parent to think that one day their child might..." Kizashi was saying but got interrupted by Mebuki.

"Don't you complete that sentence," Mebuki stated, eyes already misty, thinking about it.

Sighing, Sukuna got up from his seat.

"Good, since I don't plan to get killed anytime soon." He grinned and walked behind Sakura's chair, lowering his head to her shoulder, till both of their heads were very close while still looking at their parents.

"After all I intend to extract a lot more tears and kisses from this one here... so you can rest assured your son and daughter ain't gonna kick the bucket anytime soon." Sukuna grinned while rubbing Sakura's head like he used to when she was smaller.

Sakura's hand clenched tighter, was he intentionally doing this. Her eyes glared at him with a fiery glare; retribution shall be waiting for him.

But once Sakura's eyes fell on him, at how close he was, she just gulped, that morning tension still lingered in her, it was messing up with her mind.

As for her parents, they didn't even know what their daughter was thinking, seeing how confident and free Sukuna was, they could only put their belief in him.

Mebuki finally snorted, coming out of her depressed state, "Kisses are fine, but don't make your sister cry."

"Oh..." Sukuna perked up.

"Did you listen little sister? Kisses are allowed, come here and give your big brother a kissy."

Sakura finally couldn't take the teasing and got up from her seat, turning around and running off to her room, while shouting something along the lines of...

"BAKA ONII..." behind.

Their parents just thought it was their usual bickering...

Sukuna just nodded to himself...
