Chapter 118 - Chapter 118 - Reel and Real Invasion I

"Action!"

Was it even acting? It was just Marshall being Marshall and Marty being Marty.

The scene being filmed was the opening, introduction shot of Marshall. It was set in 15000 BCE. He was lying against a tree in the Amazon rainforest, right beside him was Marty, being equally lazy. It wasn't just the two of them; a few giant anacondas were also sleeping near them, some jaguars perched atop Marty's back, sloths were in the trees, Monkeys were either sleeping or scratching each other, countless birds were around them, and even alligators.

Animals that had no reason to be in the same place at the same time were resting.

Other than some light makeup on his face, Marshall was in his usual Viking, caveman clothes, looking just as godly and handsome as ever.

Shhh~

Right then, a few humans of the local native tribes appeared, curious, scared.

They were dressed in their native attire, because they were indeed the fucking natives of the forest. They weren't actors. The filming staff had no clue how the First Man convinced them. But again, it was the First Man.

The scene that followed was glorious. The First Man woke up with annoyance. The animals around him didn't even stir; In fact, one of the jaguars came over to get some scratches. The natives knelt and started speaking in their native tongue.

The first man did the same just as naturally. The filming crew could only hope this was according to the script. But at least the acting felt natural.

The natives asked for the First Man's help in dealing with a mysterious abomination terrorising their village. The First Man refused, however. Declaring that they must first 'help themselves' and then seek him.

The camera, after that, followed the natives back to their villages. It wasn't a long scene, but it showed a village of a few hundred natives gathered together. Many looked injured, wounds covered. The elders sat together and discussed.

The abomination they were dealing with was a large, ten-meter-tall ape of some kind. How it grew that big was unknown. But the ape would randomly come to them, take their food, and wound many more.

That night, the natives decided to fight the ape when it came next time, instead of trying to appease it.

The very next scene shot was a battle scene where the ape actually appeared. It was a tense scene, where the natives first acted submissive, got into formation, and then grabbed their spears to attack. It was a beautiful action shot, as the giant creature roared when the spears probed.

But the giant ape didn't fall, only grew angry. It threw the natives all around, tearing them apart, even smashing some, and throwing others into the sky.

The filming crew didn't know what to think. This was real, it looked fucking real. They were only paid to film, and had no idea if this was special physical effects or a man truly got ripped in half.

In moments, the entire village's population died out, leaving only a few men alive. One of them was a native who had gone to find the First Man.

Being the last remaining, broken, the man cried as he lay flat on the ground. The Giant ape loomed over, ready to stomp its massive foot.

"I… I tried…" the native man cried in pain. "We tried to help ourselves… First Man."

It was nerve-wracking. The giant ape was about to kill the poor man. Its foot was about to smash down, but just then…

"That's when you seek me, son."

From the sky descended the First Man.

"Wraaaaa!"

Marty appeared as well, on the ground, smashing through the trees nearby, and in one big bite, rooted the giant ape from the ground. Marty tore the evil creature in half as it screamed ear-shatteringly.

The First Man landed on the ground and raised the wounded native man with a mere wave of his hand. Body limp, yet still awake, the native kept crying.

"The one who seeks me in their most desperate need, after exhausting all paths, is one who finds me. You have suffered… enough."

Crack!

It was audible as the native man's bones snapped back into place, returning to being whole. Before long, the wounds vanished, and he returned to his physical glory.

"All of you have suffered, but no more."

First Man's arms spread wide as all the dead people of the tribe were revived. Torn bodies became whole again. Wounds filled up. Confusion marred their faces, but alive they were.

"Remember! I help those who dare help themselves."

As First Man's final words echoed, he once again rose into the sky. And with that, the scenes came to an end, as in the final movie, it would fade to black.

"CUT!"

This was it!

Marilyn Monroe couldn't believe this was all real. She knew some of the larger budget films had unimaginable production costs, but this was different. A whole, actual Wild West-themed town was erected in the middle of nowhere. The train line was placed, and old-looking trains and locomotives were brought in. It was like a completely different world. And she was the lead female actress.

The movie was set in 1870. Her role in the movie was that of an archaeologist who was independently wealthy because of the inheritance her father had left behind. People called her an amateur, and she was one, self-taught, trailblazing.

In the movie, she was chasing a lead in search of the First Man, a God whose traces were across the world, now considered a myth. But mistakenly, she would end up finding an alien beacon that had run out of power in an old mine near a town. Unknowingly, she would activate it, and that would send all the stored data to the unknown aliens.

"Action!"

Dressed in pants, a shirt, a utility vest, a small scarf, and a hat, she looked a bit dirty in that scene. This was the first time she was allowed to be herself, just an actress meant to act, not eye-candy.

The current scene was where she returned from the mines with the alien beacon. She took it to the town's bar, where all the men and more had gathered, all gun-slingers, wanna-be legends or something else.

As she walked inside the bar, silence fell.

The only women present there were prostitutes, after all. She neither looked like one nor acted as one. She grabbed a high chair by the bar counter and asked for a drink. The alien beacon was right beside her seat, sitting in a large cloth bag. The metallic thing was visible, and it was humming.

"What's in the bag, hussy?"

"Hussy yourself," she snapped back. "It's Jane Jackson for you and all the ogling eyes."

At her words, the men around looked back at their drinks or cards they were playing. The two guns she had on her belt didn't go unnoticed by many. Some laughed, some ignored. Nobody considered her dangerous.

Soon enough, she received her drink. Then, she started making small talk with the bartender.

Indeed, the First Man in his own movie was playing the First Man. But right as she started asking for a place to stay, the door to the saloon was pushed open. Boots clanking, two men walked in.

The two men walked straight to her. She felt their presence behind and turned to look. It was the sheriff, as the badge said. The young man, likely no older than twenty, was the deputy, clearly a rookie by the way he held the long-barreled gun.

"CUT!"

That wasn't the first take of that scene, but surely the final. Marilyn let out a satisfied exhale and smiled at the two men who were just introduced in the movie. The man playing the sheriff was none other than John Wayne, a big name in Hollywood at the moment. The man playing deputy was new, but handsome and tall, Clint Eastwood was his name.

"Action!"

Once again, a new scene played out in that same saloon. In it, she was accused of stealing that shiny metallic device from somewhere. She explained where she found it. Explained that it belonged to the First Man, it was God's creation, and hence beyond their understanding.

But the sheriff was an asshole, constantly flirting with her, belittling her, showing signs of greed. The acting was impeccable, and those new color cameras captured everything in great detail from multiple angles across multiple takes.

The scene ended with her being dragged out and taken to the sheriff's office, where she was thrown behind bars. She kept shouting, hurling witty insults back, only for them to fall on deaf ears.

During a night scene, the Sheriff's deputy, the young man, offered her some food and clean water. While the role Marilyn was playing was of a learned woman, she couldn't help it that even in her non-sexual attire, she was beautiful. While there was no major romance planned in the movie, the role was intended to add a hint of sexual tension with the young deputy.

As the filming went on for days, scene after scene, the major event arrived.

The very next day, while she was still locked in the Sheriff's office, the ground started shaking, and the sky boomed aloud.

It was the official arrival of an alien. It was a small aircraft, but it was still as big as half of their entire town. It looked nothing like what one could imagine, so futuristic. And it was real, as the team from Dinosia explained.

She had been told before that humans were not alone in space, but this was the proof in the flesh. It took a day for the entire acting crew to get used to the alien craft and the aliens themselves.

The next day, filming resumed. The aliens attacked the town after a traumatised old veteran man from the Civil War had a panic attack and shot at the alien craft. The large, shining beams of energy tore through the town, killing people left and right, uprooting entire buildings.

Then, finally, a team of aliens descended, dressed in strange armor that covered their entire bodies. They held large guns of unknown design. It was a gunfight. All the remaining living people in town had taken cover and shot from there.

But it was so one-sided. The guns aliens used shot through wood and walls alike, killing all. Finally, the aliens invaded the sheriff's office.

Initially, Marylin acted as a shocked, confused woman, since she had only heard noise outside.

The sheriff tried to talk to them, but was shot in the head. Without even asking, the aliens easily found the metallic thing she had found. They spoke in a strange language she didn't understand.

She watched, confused still. The aliens grabbed a wire from their suits and attached it to the metallic orb she had found. It glowed for a while.

"W-Who are you?"

"Who found this?"

Finally, the aliens spoke her language. She became excited. "Are you with the First Man?"

"We are the Kree. Are you the one who found this beacon?"

"I am the one."

"Thank you for inviting us, Terran. We will leave you alive to watch as we shall conquer this world. We are but an expedition party, but soon the mothership and our armies will arrive. Prepare to submit, Terrans. We benevolent Kree shall lead you to a new age."

"..."

She acted shocked, confused, and scared. While all of this was new, she didn't lack critical thinking. As the aliens spoke, a haunting possibility scared her.

"A-Are you… from space?"

All five aliens nodded and left.

Thud!

She fell backwards right then as she realised what she had done by activating that beacon. There was no device left by the First Man. It was something far, far worse.

"CUT!"

In the next scene, she came out of the sheriff's office with the young deputy and saw the massacre outside. All the ruin and carnage.

After a moment of panic and horror, she and the young deputy gather themselves. They decide that they have to warn someone of this. What the aliens said only meant one thing: an invasion.

Eventually, that led the deputy to say, "I know someone who can help."

It was a new man in the town who had killed the entire notorious Bull Brothers Gang that was terrorising the surrounding towns. But it was doubtful the man would have survived all that mess.

However, when the two of them walked around the town, they ended up at the saloon. It was obliterated; only the floor was remaining, and the entire roof was destroyed. Right there, in the middle against the still-standing bar counter, they saw a lone man seated, dirty from the rubble, his hat still on his head, a bottle of whiskey close, glass half full.

"That's him!" the deputy shouted.
