I gritted my teeth as I slammed my ice blade into the Minotaur's massive body once again. His iron-clad horns slammed into the ground, sending debris flying everywhere. His roar was deafening, shaking the very earth beneath us. I wasn't sure how long I could keep this up. The monster was strong. Stronger than I remembered, but I wasn't about to back down. Not when I had a blade—my blade. It had to mean something.
I twisted the sword in my hand, staring at it. "Come on, awesome super cool beauty sword... you've got this! Please, just work with me here!"
The Minotaur's eyes glinted with rage as it charged at me again. "Oh, no you don't!" I barked, leaping to the side just as it swung one of its massive fists toward me. The impact caused the ground to tremble beneath my feet, but I managed to land on my feet and take a step back.
It was powerful, relentless. It had no mercy. But I was Akio Kita, dammit, and I wasn't going to lose to some giant bull-headed freak.
The sword felt... different this time. Lighter, almost as if it were calling to me, urging me to strike harder, faster, with more purpose. I frowned. The Minotaur roared in frustration, charging again, faster this time. I had to do something—anything.
"Alright, alright! I get it!" I muttered, tightening my grip on the hilt. "Let's do this. SWORD OF ICE!"
I slashed horizontally, expecting the usual impact, but something was different. The air around me seemed to freeze, the sword leaving behind a trail of frost in its wake. And when I swung it at the Minotaur, I felt a jolt of energy surge through me—like the sword and I had finally connected.
A thin layer of ice started to creep up from the wound I inflicted, gliding along the Minotaur's skin as it froze in place. It roared, stomping its hooves in frustration, but the ice kept spreading, quickly covering its legs, its arms, and creeping up its monstrous torso.
"Oh ho, oh ho, yes!" I cackled, grinning like an idiot. "Take that, you overgrown ox!"
The Minotaur struggled, trying to break free from the icy prison now enveloping its body. But it was too late. The ice was everywhere, glistening in the light, wrapping around its hulking form like an unbreakable chain. I could feel my body humming, the energy from the sword pouring into me, driving me forward.
"Alright, time to finish this." I clenched my teeth as I focused all my energy into the sword. "Get ready for the Ice Storm!"
With a battle cry, I rushed forward. The sword felt lighter than ever, as if it had become an extension of myself. I spun, slashing in rapid succession, each cut leaving a trail of sharp, sparkling ice as it slammed into the Minotaur's body. It screamed, but its voice was muffled by the ice that had almost fully encased it.
I could feel the momentum building. The more I thought about the sword, the more power I could feel surging through it. I wasn't just using my strength now—I was becoming the sword. I was channeling the ice, controlling it like it was my element.
One more hit—one more—and I could finish this fight. The Minotaur was slowing down, and its once mighty roars had become desperate, weak sounds.
"You're done," I muttered, my voice low as I took a final, powerful step forward. With every ounce of strength I had left, I swung the sword down with everything I could muster.
The sound of ice cracking echoed across the battlefield.
The Minotaur's body froze completely. It was no longer struggling or fighting. It was solid, frozen in place like a statue, its blood now turned to ice, its massive body a frozen monument to my victory.
For a moment, I stood there, panting, watching as the last bits of ice solidified around its body. I dropped to one knee, wiping the sweat from my brow as the adrenaline started to fade.
"Holy hell." I said, gasping for air. "I actually did it. I won. That was... way too close."
But the battle wasn't over, was it? Not entirely. I stood up slowly, my eyes scanning the frozen form of the Minotaur. It had fallen, but there was no way I was going to let my guard down just yet.
I glanced at my sword, still glowing faintly with that icy aura. "Alright, awesome super cool beauty sword... we did good, huh? You and me—well, mostly me—but you were definitely cool."
I couldn't help but laugh at how absurd the situation was. Of course, I hadn't expected it to be that intense. I expected a bit of a struggle, sure, but not... well, whatever the hell that was. But it was done. I'd fought and won. The Minotaur was gone. And the sword had helped me more than I could've imagined.
My chest rose and fell as I caught my breath, the echoes of the battle still reverberating in my ears. I looked around at the wreckage, the bodies of the fallen heroes scattered around the area, some still unconscious, others too injured to move.
And then my eyes shifted back to the Minotaur, its massive form now frozen in time, a testament to the battle we'd just fought.
"Guess it's safe to say that I'm... stronger now." I said, a cocky grin forming on my face. "Guess I'll have to figure out what to call this sword... 'Icebreaker'... maybe? Nah, too cliché."
I sheathed the sword, a sense of satisfaction washing over me.
"I'll figure it out later. First things first... I'm getting out of here."
With the battle finally over, the world seemed to quiet. But even so, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning.
