Chapter 8 - Season 1: Can of Worms

What's happening with Nalia. O.O

____________________________________________________________

Nalia woke up early in the morning, yawning as she grabbed her glasses and put them down. She then grabbed her scarf but found out it wasn't where she had left it. "Huh? Where is my scarf?" She got out of her bed and began looking under her bed.

"It must be somewhere, in here..... anywhere." Nalia panicked as she kept looking, and it didn't help that she wasn't feeling well.

"I can't walk out without my scarf. Please don't tell me I lost it; it was the last thing Morro gave me." Nalia kept searching the room but couldn't find it anywhere.

Soon, there was a knock on the door, causing her to jump. "Hey! Nalia, are you up yet?" It was Lloyd asking.

Nalia's eyes widen when she hears Lloyd's voice. "I don't want him or the others to see my scars, but I can't stay in here forever." She looks around until she finds a towel she can use, but when she picks it up, she sneezes, causing blue fire to come out of her mouth and burning the towel to a crisp.

"Nalia, are you okay?" Lloyd asked as he began opening the door.

"Shit!" Nalia looked around before grabbing the bandages and quickly wrapping them around her throat.

When Lloyd opened the door, the first thing he saw was that the room was a mess. Then, Nalia had bed hair and was still in her pajamas. "Did I come at the wrong time?"

"Lloyd, have you seen my scarf anywhere?" Nalia used hand signs to ask, as Wu had been teaching him these last few days, so it would be easier for him to understand her.

"Oh, yeah, I think I saw Zane taking it to be cleaned up, but something went wrong, and it, well... got torn apart," said Lloyd, pulling out a torn-up scarf he had behind his back, placing it on a table before leaving the room.

Nalia's eyes widened in shock, and for a moment, everything went quiet, more than usual. But then a low growl came from her as she narrowed her eyes. "ZANE!"

She let out another fire sneeze as she walked towards the door and out of the room. Her vision was growing a bit blurry, but at the moment, she focused on something else as she got to the room where the ninjas were arguing with their accusers.

Nalia slammed the door open, causing the ninjas to stop arguing. "Zane! How could you ruin my scarf? You all know how important it is to me!"

"Nalia, what are you talking about? I would never ruin your scarf," said Zane.

Nalia just growled at him and jumped at him. Bitting into his arm.

"Nalia!?"

"We've talked about this! Don't bite people!"

"Nalia, let go of him already!"

"Hey! Nalia, look a mango!"

Master Wu enters as the ninjas try to have Nalia let go of Zane's arm before opening the bathroom door, where Lloyd is hiding, and he laughs evilly. The ninjas soon find some spices that he used to ruin Cole's soup, some tools to damage Jay's robot, the detergent he used to ruin Zane's ninja suits, and Nalia's scarf completely fine.

"You did this?" The ninjas gasped while Nalia let go of Zane's arm.

"Guys, I get first dibs on. . ." Cole goes up to Lloyd to punish him.

Wu stops Cole. "No dibs. I put him up to this for today's lesson. I wanted to show you the destructive power of rumors and that jumping to conclusions can only lead to trouble. Did you ever think to find out if the accusations were true?"

"Uh, no offense, Sensei, but let me jump to this conclusion: today's lesson is lame." said Cole.

"Yeah, why can't you just teach us to paralyze your enemy with one finger, or find out if a man is lying by the twitch of his nose?" Jay questioned.

"Because not all lessons are about fighting. And I misplaced my lesson book." said Wu.

Kai finds a lesson book sticking out of Lloyd's back pocket and swipes it. "You mean this lesson book?"

"It was the perfect plan until you have to show up and mess everything up—" said Lloyd, but stopped when he and the others heard Nalia coughing.

"Nalia, you okay?" Jay asked.

"Yeah.... I'm fine." Nalia smiled, walking over, grabbing her scarf, and putting it on. "Sorry for biting you, Zane."

Wu walked over and placed a hand on her forehead. "I think you are getting a fever until you are better. You aren't allowed on any missions."

Nalia pouted a little, saying she had to stay here until she was better. "It's like the cave all over again."

Nya over the speaker. "If you're done fooling around, I could use you guys on the bridge. We do still have a snake problem to attend to. Over and out!"

"It's one thing to let the son of your nemesis live with you. But having my sister here? I mean, come on! I thought this was a ninja headquarters." said Kai.

"You do know I can hear you. . . over and out!" Kai slaps his head before the ninjas go to the bridge. "Last we heard of Pythor, he stole the Map of Dens from Lloyd and is now on his way to open the last two Serpentine tombs."

"Ugh, don't remind me." said Lloyd remorsefully.

"Big meanie." Nalia let out a few more coughs.

"I'm sorry for lying about your scarf, Lia," said Lloyd, looking over at her.

Nalia glared at him, crossing her arms. "I don't like being lied to, Lloyd, and this scarf is important to me." She could feel another sneeze coming but tried holding it in as best she could.

"Pythor's our most dangerous threat. If he finds those tombs before we do, with his intellect and all four tribes unleashed, there's no telling what he'll do," said Wu.

"But those tombs could be anywhere. Without the map, we might as well just throw darts at a map," said Jay.

"Good idea. Why don't we?" Nya throws two darts at a map. "These are the two locations of the Hypnobrai and Fangpyre tombs."

"Show off." said Kai.

"And this is Pythor's tomb." She places another dart on the map. "After many hours of contemplating why the tombs were placed in these three precise locations, I discovered a secret pattern. If you notice, all three align with the Ninjago symbol for serpent."

"So the last two tombs must be here and here. Ah, you are so smart," said Jay.

"Ah, was there ever any doubt?" said Nya.

"There's little time. Kai and Jay, you head to the Venomari Tomb. Cole and Zane, you take the Constrictai Tomb. And take this. You might need it if you run into Pythor. Good luck, ninja." said Wu.

"I'm coming too!" Nalia raised her hand, jumping, but let out a few more coughs.

"No, Nalia, you are staying here until your fever is gone," said Wu.

Nalia growled, stomping her foot on the floor.

"What am I gonna do?" Nya asked.

"Yeah, what are we gonna do?" Lloyd asked.

"Nya, I need you here to ensure Lloyd doesn't get into trouble. Along with watching Nalia's fever," said Wu.

"Yes, Sensei." said Nya annoyed.

"Let's go, boys. We got some snakes to club." said Cole.

Wu sighs. "Where are you, Pythor. What are you up to?"

"This isn't fair; he is worse than Morro." Nalia walked out of the room. She had thought about sneaking out with one of the teams, but it brought back the time she snuck after Morro, which ended in his death.

Nalia went up to the upper deck of the Bounty and sat down by the railing. She pulled out her diary that Nya had gotten her a few days ago and began writing one of the songs she was working on, though she had to move it out of the way a few times whenever a fire sneeze came.

"Sounds like you have a terrible fever," said Lloyd, coming up the stairs.

Nalia looked up from her diary when she heard him, giving a slight nod and a sigh, putting down her diary.

"I've never had a fever before in all my years, so this is a little weird to me, and I don't like it." Nalia sighed and began scratching her arm as her skin got all itchy.

"All your years? Aren't you a kid like me?" Lloyd asked, raising a brow as he sat down beside her.

".....Well, yes, but you know what I mean." Nalia could feel her temperature changing back and forth from cold to warm.

"Why aren't you using your voice to speak like you did before that night?" Lloyd asked.

"I don't wanna risk it getting worse if I talk too much, and I wanna surprise the others with a song when it's fully recovered." Nalia had a slight smile on her face.

"A song? I didn't know you could sing," said Lloyd, surprised.

Nalia let out a giggle mixed with coughing. "I loved singing all the time, but after the injuries, I got to my throat. I haven't been able to sing... and I miss it a lot."

Lloyd smiled a little and began wondering what she sounded like when she sang. "Hey, since the ninjas aren't around, how about we play some video games and see if we can beat some of their high scores."

Nalia raised a brow, looking at him, then at her diary, thinking for a bit. "Sure, I haven't played for a while."

Lloyd and Nalia got up from where they were sitting and headed inside the Bounty to play video games for the rest of the day. Luckily, Nalia didn't have any fire sneezes while they played.

*At evening, the ninjas gather at the dinner table.*

"So then, just when we were gonna bite it, this huge mechanical robot—" Jay went on to explain but was cut off by Zane.

"Samurai. It was Samurai." Zane corrected.

"A Sama-what?" Lloyd asked.

"I think I read something about them but don't remember where." Nalia scratched her left cheek as the itching was getting worse.

"Samurai. Highest level of warrior class. They would protect nobility and serve with honor on the battlefield." Wu explained.

"He was a hundred feet high, with weapons coming out every part of him." Kai whispers to Cole. "Look at Sensei's beard. It's moving like snakes."

"When is this Venomari spit supposed to wear off? It's starting to get annoying." Nya asked.

"Okay, don't let this mysterious Samurai cloud what's really important. All the Serpentine are out, and if Pythor can unite them, the legend states some Great Devourer is gonna consume the land and—" Cole explained before being cut off.

"Great Devourer?" Nya asked.

"I think I heard that name before, but where." Nalia wondered.

"Whatever it is, it's a can of worms I don't wanna see open." said Cole.

"Unh, it's all my fault. If I hadn't opened the first hatch, none of this would've happened." said Lloyd.

"We cannot change the past, but we can affect the future. At least we have the Sacred Flute in our possession, so—" said Wu before being cut off.

"Yeah, ahem. About that..." said Jay with a nervous smile.

"Pythor sort of stole it." said Zane.

"What?" Nalia raised an eyebrow.

"The last Sacred Flute gone?" Wu sighs. "you five are Ninjago's last hope."

*The alarm turns off.*

"Cold vision must have caught something. That means the Serpentine are near." said Nya.

"Oh, no! Ninjago City?" said Cole.

"How many are there?" asked Jay.

"Looks like all of them." said Kai.

"Ooo, I've always wanted to see all the tribes together." Nalia thought with sparkling eyes.

"Pythor must be trying to unite them." said Zane.

"I don't wanna see that meanie again." Nalia narrowed her eyes.

"Go. We mustn't let the five tribes unite." said Wu.

"Ninja, go!"

*The ninjas run out of the room. They do Spinjitzu, putting on their gi's.*

"I wanna help, too." Nalia got up from her chair, not wanting to be left out on another adventure.

"Nalia, you still have a fever; we can't risk you getting worse by joining the ninjas," said Wu.

Nalia let out an angry growl. "I'm not going to be stuck here doing fucking nothing! Like back at my cave!" She stormed after the ninjas.

"Nalia!"

Nalia followed the ninjas as they skydived and manifested their weapons into their vehicles to land on the ground. They cheer, except for Kai, who screams as they jump off the Bounty. Nalia had been able to get a ride in Cole's vehicle.

"Ah. I love the smell of land hurtling towards you in the middle of the night." said Cole as they land with their weapons.

"Whoa."

"Ninjago City." said Kai.

"Amazing." said Zane.

"Always heard stories of this place." said Kai.

"I've always wanted to see this place." Nalia smiled behind her scarf, scratching some scaly skin off her face.

"Biggest city in all of Ninjago. Always wanted to come here." said Jay.

"Yeah, I always dreamed of one day being on a billboard here." said Cole.

"You too?" Jay asked.

"Yeah, I did too." said Kai.

"What's a billboard?" Nalia raised an eyebrow.

"Uh, but may I remind you where the snakes are? We should be standing in the middle of a massive Serpentine gathering," said Zane as they approached a manhole.

"Ugh, I hate snakes." said Cole.

"Nalia, are you sure you're all good to join us in this?" Jay asked.

"We wouldn't want you to get worse, while we are down there." said Kai.

"I'm gonna be fine, guys; I'll let you know if I get it worse." Nalia rolled her eyes with a sigh.

*In the gathering at the sewers, the Serpentine chatter while Pythor is getting ready.*

"You'll have to use more than words to bring the Serpentine together." said Skales.

"All I have to do is show them the way." said Pythor.

"They're ready for you, Pythor." said Acidicus.

"Ah. Showtime. Friends, enemies, and enemies who pretend to be friends." said Pythor, the Serpentine laughs. "I welcome you."

"That's a lot of snakes." said Cole.

"So cool! Except Pythor. I want to bite him so badly." Nalia narrowed her eyes toward Pythor. He was probably the first person she had ever hated so much.

"I would advise you not to bite him, Nalia," said Zane.

"What are we gonna do?" Jay asked.

"I have an idea. Follow my lead," said Kai before looking over at Nalia. "Keep an eye out for any ambush that might come."

"Okay, I can do that." Nalia nodded, rubbing her nose as she felt a sneeze slowly coming.

"And what is with the Constrictai and their vice-like grip? Let it go already." said Pythor while they crowd laugh.

"It's funny because it's so true." said Fang-Suei.

"Heh, but in all seriousness, the reason why I called this gathering is because...the good people of Ninjago imprisoned us in those insidious tombs, and I want to return them the favor." They cheer, but don't notice Kai sliding down a rope from the ceiling.

"That sounds like a great plan, but you know the Hypnobrai will screw it up." said Kai from the back.

"Who said that?" Mezmo asked, looking around.

"Those buck teeth can bite my rear end." said Jay.

"Huh?" Spitta looked around confused.

"I bet they're drinking their own venom." said Cole.

"All that digging must have given them dirt for brains." said Zane.

"What's going on? Why am I losing them?" Pythor asked.

Nalia giggled softly, watching this before letting out a few coughs of smoke.

Skales notice Cole. "Ninja! Don't worry, I'll take care of it." The Constrictai grabs Kai, Nalia Cole, and Jay.

"Run!" shouted Jay.

*Zane runs into another tunnel, but upon coming across a dead end, hides in front of a poster of "Sitar Legend." The Constrictai goes back, and Zane realizes his gi camouflaged him.*

"Did you take care of them?" Pythor asked.

"All but one." said Skales.

"Search every nook and cranny. If he's a ninja, you'll never find him in plain sight." said Pythor.

Nalia let out a few more coughs of smoke behind her scarf. "Shit, I'm not feeling so well, maybe I should have stayed back."

"Nalia, you seriously don't look so well," worried Jay.

"We shouldn't have brought you along, knowing about your fever," said Kai.

Nalia looked down on the ground as a few tears began forming in the corner of her eyes.

"Hmm? What's the kid now crying about?" Pythor asked, looking over at the ninjas and Nalia.

Nalia looked up at Pythor with teary eyes but let out a growl at him.

"Oh, how scary, a growling child. At least you are mute, so I don't need to hear your voice," said Pythor.

"Hey, you can't say that to a child!" said Cole.

"Mostly not to one, that are still recovering!" said Kai.

"Oh, no. This is the worst time for this," Nalia thought as she felt the tickle in her nose.

"Oh yeah? And is that why she is wearing that ugly scarf?" Pythor questioned, moving closer. Grabbing Nalia's scarf at the worst time, she let out the biggest fire sneeze of the day. Catching everyone by surprise.

"Aarh! My face!" screamed Pythor, trying to get the fire away. "Get it off! Get it off!"

"Nalia did you..." said Cole.

"....Just sneeze." said Jay.

"....Blue fire." said Kai.

"Look, a Pink Ninja!" shouted Chokun.

Zane swings across them all.

"Go, Pink Ninja, go!" Cheered the ninjas.

"Unh. Now let's get out of here. Let us blow this popsicle stand. Ninja, go!" said Zane.

"Popsicle stand. Haha, I like it!" They escape.

"You'll have to do better than that to unite the tribes." said Skales.

"GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME!!!" yelled Pythor.

*The ninjas are back on the Bounty.*

"You know, whether it was in a lesson book or not, we used the destructive power of rumors to our advantage." said Cole.

"And now the Serpentine are further away than ever from getting their act together." said Kai.

"You know, I don't think we would've gotten out of there if it hadn't been for Zane." said Jay.

"Don't thank me. Thank Lloyd. If it hadn't been for his "laundry skills," we all would've been found." Everyone laughs and Lloyd comes in with Zane's white gi.

"Well, it took me twenty loads, but your suit's no longer pink. And to show that I'm sorry, Cole, I got you a can of nuts." said Lloyd.

"Uh, haha, yeah. Don't think I don't see what this is. When I open this, a bunch of snakes are gonna pop out, right? Yeah, no thank you." Cole opens the fridge, only to have snakes pop out. Everyone laughs.

Nalia smiled, taking a bite of her mango. She made a painful sound, dropping the mango as she touched her cheek. Tears slowly formed in her eyes.

"What's wrong, Nalia?" Wu asked, walking over to check on her.

Nalia let out a whining sound, slowly opening her mouth for Wu to see what was wrong.

"Hmm... have your teeth always been this sharp?" Wu asked, poking a few of them, which sent a painful shiver through her body—causing her to let out another painful sound, now with tears running down her face.

"What's wrong with her, Sensei?" Zane asked.

"Did she eat too much candy?" Kai asked.

Wu caught a glimpse of faint golden-like scales on her face, where she had been scratching a few times. Stroking his beard, he began having an idea of what was going on, to his surprise, but didn't want to say anything just yet. "She is gonna be fine; it looks like she is beginning to grow new teeth."

The ninjas let out a relieved sigh, now knowing that it wasn't anything serious.

"Wait, aren't we gonna talk about her breathing blue fire?" Jay asked.

"Now, now, I think it's about time Nalia gets to bed. She must be tired after such a big adventure while having a fever," said Wu, patting Nalia's head with a soft smile.
