Chapter 165 - Chapter 165: Successfully Obtained Food Treasures 【PAIR】

The moment stretched into eternity.

In the material world, Toriko held one half of the [PAIR]—massive, glowing, pulsing with life force so potent it made his restored right arm tingle with energy. The fruit was warm in his hands, almost alive, and he could feel its power resonating with every cell in his body.

In the inner world, King held the other half.

The two halves, separated by the thinnest veil of reality, pulsed in perfect synchronization. They called to each other across dimensions, their light intertwining through the barrier.

"Now," King murmured.

He pressed his half against the inner world's boundary. Simultaneously, Toriko, guided by instinct or fate or the lingering echo of King's voice, pressed his half against the same spot from the material side.

The barriers between worlds shattered—not violently, but gently, like morning mist burning away. The two halves of the [PAIR] met, merged, and became one.

Light exploded across both worlds.

On the mountain peak, Coco, Sunny, and Zebra shielded their eyes from the radiance. When it faded, they saw Toriko standing before the weeping Monkey King, holding a single, perfect fruit in his hands.

The [PAIR] had transformed. No longer did it resemble its original anatomical source. Now it was a thing of impossible beauty—a glowing orb that contained galaxies within its depths, that smelled of every delicious thing that had ever existed and every delicious thing that ever would exist.

And standing beside Toriko, as if he'd been there all along, was King.

"Good job," King said simply, clapping Toriko on the shoulder. "You didn't hesitate. That's what saved you."

Toriko stared at him, then at the fruit, then back at him. "You... you were there. In the inner world. You caught the other half."

King nodded. "Someone had to. The ritual requires both worlds to complete the harvest. Without it, the fruit would have fallen into the void between dimensions, lost forever."

Zebra's jaw worked soundlessly for a moment before he managed, "You... you knew. The whole time. You knew how to do this."

"I read the manga," King said with a shrug. "Well, most of it. Skipped some chapters."

Sunny's hair was standing on end—not from fear, but from sheer overwhelming confusion. "The... the manga? What are you talking about?"

King just smiled mysteriously. "Inside joke. Don't worry about it."

The Monkey King, his tears finally slowing, reached out one massive hand and gently touched the [PAIR]. A single tear fell from his ancient eyes onto the fruit's surface, where it was absorbed with a soft glow.

"Roa..." (Take care of it...)

Toriko looked up at the king who had tried to kill them, played with them, danced with them, and finally blessed them. "We will. We promise."

Bambina nodded slowly, then looked past them, toward the inner world where King still stood partially. Their eyes met—human and god, stranger and king—and something passed between them. Understanding, perhaps. Or respect.

Then the Monkey King leaped into the sky, his form shrinking as he rose, returning to his scarred, familiar shape. Within moments, he was just a speck among the stars, disappearing into the exosphere to sleep.

The dance was complete.

On the beach far below, the entire reinforcement party had witnessed the light show. Rin was crying again—happy tears this time. Komatsu was jumping up and down, cheering. Even Saitama looked impressed.

"That was pretty cool," he admitted. "So when do we eat?"

Garou snorted. "Always about food with you."

"It's always about food."

King's voice echoed in all their minds: "Mission accomplished. The [PAIR] is ours. We'll be down shortly. Prepare for the greatest feast in gourmet history."

On the mountain peak, Toriko held the fruit carefully, reverently. "What now?"

King smiled. "Now? Now we go home. We save some lives. We eat well." He looked up at the stars, where the Monkey King had vanished. "And we remember that sometimes, the greatest treasures come from the most unexpected places—and the most unexpected dances."

The Four Heavenly Kings, battered but victorious, began their descent.

Behind them, the bone arena stood silent, waiting for the next dance, a thousand years from now.

And the [PAIR] glowed in Toriko's hands, ready to bring life back to a world that had forgotten how to hope.

The scene that unfolded before everyone's eyes was simultaneously the most hilarious and most horrifying thing any of them had ever witnessed.

Setsuno—burly, wild-haired, aggressively masculine Setsuno—was cradled in the arms of the Ape King Bambina like a prized bride, his once-rough features now soft and distinctly feminine, his chest curvaceous, his... well, everything transformed by the drop of [PAIR] essence.

And he was struggling.

"Mmph! Mmmmmph!" His muffled protests were lost against the Monkey King's furry chest as Bambina carried him/her toward the First Cry Tree with unmistakable romantic intent.

The Four Heavenly Kings stood frozen, their jaws collectively unhinged.

Sunny was the first to speak, his voice barely a whisper: "Did... did that just happen?"

Zebra's eye twitched violently. "King just... turned Setsuno into a woman... and gave her to the Monkey King... as a wife?"

Coco's future sight was mercifully blank—perhaps the universe itself refusing to process this timeline. "I... I have no words."

Toriko, ever the one to find the bright side, managed weakly: "Well... at least the Monkey King isn't trying to kill us anymore?"

Indeed, Bambina's murderous rage had evaporated completely. He was now gently nuzzling his "bride," making soft cooing sounds that were deeply unsettling coming from a creature capable of leveling mountains.

Horse King Heracles watched the proceedings with what could only be described as smug satisfaction, her golden mane practically glowing with self-righteousness. She had, after all, been vindicated—the monkey had been ambushed, and she had won that exchange, and now look at him, simpering over a gender-bent human.

King dusted his hands together with the satisfaction of a job well done. "There. Conflict resolved. Monkey happy. [PAIR] acquired. Everyone wins."

"Everyone?!" Setsuno's muffled shriek carried across the distance. "I'm being carried off by a MONKEY!"

King cupped his hands around his mouth. "Just go with it! You'll probably have a good time! Monkeys are very attentive lovers!"

The response was unintelligible but definitely profane.

Saitama, who had finally caught up with the group (mainly because he got bored waiting on the beach), watched the disappearing couple with philosophical detachment. "Huh. So that's how you solve problems in this world. Turn people into monkey wives."

Garou, arriving beside him, crossed his arms. "Don't get any ideas."

"Me? Never."

Komatsu, bless his heart, was trying to find the culinary angle. "The [PAIR] essence... it can transform people? That's... that's incredible! Think of the possibilities! If we could control the transformation, we could—"

"Komatsu." King's voice was gentle but firm. "Some doors, once opened, cannot be closed. Let's leave this one shut, okay?"

Komatsu swallowed and nodded vigorously.

Rin, who had been clinging to Toriko's arm throughout the entire surreal display, finally found her voice. "So... so the [PAIR] is safe? Toriko got it? And now... now Setsuno is..."

"A monkey bride, yes." King held up the basketball-sized glowing fruit. "But yes, the [PAIR] is safe. The real one, fully matured, properly harvested." He tossed it lightly, catching it again. "And it's magnificent."

The fruit pulsed with inner light, its surface swirling with galaxies of flavor, its aroma making everyone's mouths water despite the sheer absurdity of the situation.

Toriko finally tore his gaze away from the distant, rapidly disappearing figure of Setsuno and the Monkey King. "So... what now?"

King smiled. "Now? Now we celebrate. We have the fruit of resurrection. We have the Horse King. We have the Four Heavenly Kings, battered but alive. And somewhere out there, Joa is running scared and the Blue Nitro are reeling." He looked up at the sky, where the stars were beginning to fade with approaching dawn. "The Gourmet Eclipse is coming. But for now? For now, we feast."

Saitama's eyes lit up. "Feast? Like, eat feast?"

"Like, eat feast."

"FINALLY!"

And so, on the slopes of the Hundred G Mountains, with the First Cry Tree glittering in the distance and the sounds of a very confused Setsuno fading into the wilderness, the strangest victory party in gourmet history began.

The [PAIR] was obtained.

The dance was complete.

And somewhere, in the depths of the Inner World, Joa shivered, wondering what fresh insanity would come next.

She would find out soon enough.
