Chapter 10 - The Dungeon Loot

For a few seconds after the goblin champion collapsed, the dungeon was silent.

Not quiet.

Silent.

The kind of silence that followed a brutal fight, when the world itself seemed to pause to make sure everything that was supposed to die had actually died.

Ryuji Kuroda stood there breathing heavily, fists still clenched.

His chest rose and fell as his lungs struggled to catch up.

Dust drifted slowly through the cavern air.

The massive goblin champion lay sprawled across the cracked stone floor, its spiked club resting a few feet away where it had fallen from the creature's hand.

Ryuji wiped sweat from his forehead.

"…Okay."

He rolled his shoulders.

"That one actually hurt."

He stepped forward and nudged the goblin champion with his boot.

The monster didn't move.

"Yep."

"Definitely dead."

He exhaled slowly.

The fight had been close.

Closer than he liked.

If he hadn't blinded the thing with dirt…

Or shattered its knee…

Or landed that last punch just right…

He might be the one lying on the ground instead.

Ryuji glanced at the system notifications still hovering faintly in the corner of his vision.

Ryuji grinned.

"Well that was worth it."

He flexed his hands.

His Iron Brawler Gloves tightened slightly around his fists, the enchanted leather adjusting to his grip.

The strength flowing through his body felt incredible.

Like someone had replaced his muscles with better versions.

Stronger.

Faster.

More responsive.

He bounced lightly on his feet.

"Yeah."

"Definitely stronger."

Then something shifted in the center of the chamber.

Ryuji turned.

The stone floor began glowing.

Ancient runes carved into the ground lit up one by one.

A low rumbling echoed through the dungeon.

Stone ground against stone.

Slowly…

Very slowly…

Something began rising from the center of the glowing circle.

Ryuji's grin widened.

"Oh hell yeah."

A chest emerged from the floor.

Not a wooden one.

A stone chest, reinforced with bronze bands and covered in strange carvings.

The lid locked in place with an ornate metal latch.

The glowing runes faded as the chest fully surfaced.

Then the rumbling stopped.

Ryuji rubbed his hands together.

"Well."

"Looks like the dungeon's giving me a prize."

He walked toward the chest cautiously.

Because fantasy stories had taught him something very important.

Treasure chests could explode.

Or bite you.

Or summon demons.

Or turn into monsters.

Or contain cursed items.

Or all of the above.

Ryuji crouched beside it.

"…Please don't explode."

He slowly reached forward.

And lifted the lid.

Nothing exploded.

"Nice."

Inside the chest sat several items.

Ryuji leaned closer.

"Alright."

"Let's see what we got."

---

The first thing inside the chest was a small pile of silver coins.

Not copper.

Silver.

Ryuji's eyes lit up.

"Oho."

He scooped them up and counted quickly.

Twenty.

"Nice."

Silver coins were worth significantly more than copper.

This dungeon run had just become very profitable.

He dropped the coins into his inventory pouch.

The next item caught his eye immediately.

A pair of gloves.

Thick leather.

Dark brown.

Reinforced with metal stitching across the knuckles.

Ryuji blinked.

"…Wait."

He picked them up.

A system window appeared.

---

Iron Brawler Gloves

Uncommon Equipment

+10% Unarmed Damage

Minor durability enchantment

---

Ryuji stared.

Then looked down at the gloves already on his hands.

"…Hold on."

He blinked again.

The gloves in the chest were the exact same type he was already wearing.

He scratched his head.

"So I just got another pair of the same gloves?"

He thought about it.

"…Actually that's not bad."

He inspected the pair currently on his hands.

They had taken a beating during the fight.

Scuffs.

Scratches.

Small tears in the leather.

"Backup pair."

"Nice."

He stored the second pair in his inventory.

"Always good to have spares."

---

Next item.

A thin leather-bound book rested inside the chest.

Ryuji tilted his head.

"Is that…?"

He picked it up.

The moment his fingers touched the cover—

The system activated.

---

Skill Book Detected

---

Ryuji's grin slowly spread.

"Oh."

"Oh this is gonna be good."

He opened the book.

The pages glowed faintly with magical energy.

Symbols and diagrams filled the paper.

Striking poses.

Combat techniques.

Impact points on the human body.

A notification appeared.

---

Skill Book

Bone Breaker

Critical strikes may fracture enemy bones.

---

Ryuji's eyes widened.

"Now that's a skill name."

He flipped through the pages.

Illustrations showed punches landing on joints.

Elbows.

Ribs.

Knees.

Every page demonstrated brutal efficiency.

Ryuji chuckled.

"This book understands me."

A new prompt appeared.

---

Learn Skill?

Bone Breaker

---

He didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

The book glowed brightly.

Then dissolved into particles of light.

Those particles flowed into Ryuji's body.

His vision flashed.

For a moment he felt like someone had downloaded combat knowledge directly into his brain.

Angles.

Weak points.

Bone structure.

How to hit joints in ways that shattered them.

How to twist limbs until they snapped.

How to punch in ways that transferred maximum impact.

Ryuji blinked.

"…Whoa."

The knowledge settled in his mind.

Natural.

Instinctive.

Like he had trained the technique for years.

A notification appeared.

---

Skill Learned

Bone Breaker Lv.1

Critical hits may fracture enemy bones.

---

Ryuji grinned widely.

"Oh hell yes."

He threw a quick punch into the air.

The impact produced a faint shockwave.

"…Yeah."

"Someone's bones are definitely getting broken."

---

He looked back into the chest.

One item remained.

At first glance it looked like a simple crystal.

About the size of a golf ball.

Smooth.

Perfectly round.

But unlike the blue mana crystal he had found earlier…

This one glowed with a strange silver light.

The glow pulsed slowly.

Like a heartbeat.

Ryuji picked it up.

"…What are you?"

The moment he touched it—

The system interface flickered.

---

Item Detected

---

Then another message appeared.

---

Unknown Artifact

Classification: Unknown

Origin: Unknown

Properties: Unknown

---

Ryuji blinked.

"…That's helpful."

He rotated the crystal in his fingers.

The light inside it shifted.

Like mist trapped inside glass.

"Huh."

"Looks important."

He tried opening the item description again.

Same message.

Unknown.

Unknown.

Unknown.

Ryuji snorted.

"Real informative system."

He held the crystal closer to his face.

"…You're definitely not normal loot."

The glow pulsed again.

Softer this time.

Almost reacting to his presence.

"Yeah."

"You're weird."

Then the system suddenly beeped.

A new notification appeared.

---

Artifact Detected

Scanning…

---

Ryuji blinked.

"Oh?"

Another message appeared.

---

System Analysis Initiated

Scanning Artifact…

---

The crystal began glowing brighter.

The light reflected across the dungeon walls.

Ryuji tilted his head.

"…Well."

"That's new."

He leaned casually against the stone chest while the system worked.

The dungeon was quiet again.

But not empty.

Somewhere deep below…

Something ancient stirred.

And the system continued scanning the mysterious artifact in Ryuji's hand.
