"Hm, the goddess speaks to you now?" Chronos asked.
"Not quite, it seems the message section is also connected to the gods. That way they can contact us from time to time." Lyla responded
"Oh, that should be fun, now the gods can give us orders for us to ignore." Chronos had a cheeky smile on his face.
"I'm more curious about the titles section. Both Chronos and Sariah have one, what do they give to you two?"
Gregory asked as Chronos tapped on his title to see the description.
"My title names me as the son of the silver spear and I think it is related to both my power and my mothers. It has three effects; the first is Predatory Vector that seems to increase my reaction speed and accuracy.
The second effect is called Inherited Focus, it seems that one increases my combat effectiveness against single targets, but I lose it when I switch targets. That will be useful against stronger opponents.
The third effect is called Silver Line, but it isn't straightforward like the other two. Reading it sounds like it will give me increased lethality in combat. Specifically, when I'm fighting creatures larger than I am, I can target joints or other weaknesses more easily.
There is also a section about an active technique, but it seems I need to learn that from my mother before it is filled in.
What about you, Sariah?"
As she read her title's description her smile widened.
"My title has three effects as well; I think all titles will have three. The first effect is Draconic Reservoir; it decreases the amount of spirit used when I cast a spell. I guess we'll call the power of magic spirit from now on, that's what it's called on the status. It increases my spirit regeneration and reduces the backlash I experience from failed spells too.
The second effect is Creative Sovereignty, that one lets me change one of the modifiers for a spell. Like the shape of the spell, its damage type, duration, or even increase my control of it. That will be very helpful.
The third effect is Silver Insight; it seems to increase my resistance to illusion or control type spells and makes it easier for me to read magic. I wonder if I can counterspell others more easily with this?
Other than that, it seems that unlike Chronos' Child of the Silver Spear my title has an effect outside of combat. It enhances my ability to create new magics or magical creations. I also have an active spell, but I have to learn it first. I wonder what it does, I can't wait to experiment." By the end she was muttering to herself with a slightly dangerous smile.
Looking at Sariah, Chronos discovered that if he focused on her he could see her name and title above her head. Turning to Gregory and Lyla he saw both of their names as well but there was no title.
That would be annoying.
Tapping around the title section he found that he could turn the title off, on, or hide it, but he couldn't change his name at all. He wasn't sure if he could have multiple titles active at once but even if he could they probably wouldn't stack their effects like how support magic would.
Just one title was already powerful enough to change the way you fought. If they could be stacked with each other then you could become unstoppable with just titles.
"Hmm, that's troublesome. It looks like we can see the names of anybody that has a system and if they have it set, we also see their title. Try focusing on me, I want to know if my title is hidden."
Gregory focused on him and reported, "I just see your name right now. Other people might have ways to see a title even if it's hidden so don't overly rely on the title hiding ability."
"Right. How do you think titles are earned? For me it seems to be a type of inheritance from my mother and Sariah's was granted by a god but what about other titles?"
Chronos had scrunched eyebrows as he thought of all the possible methods a person could use to gain a title. He was sure some sweaty overachiever would try every method they could think of to gain a title sooner or later.
"Well, since your title is inherited, we can assume your mother possesses one as well. She likely earned it by accomplishing an extraordinary feat with a spear. That suggests the system rewards outstanding achievements, even when the world itself does not." Lyla stated.
"And if your achievement is impressive enough then your descendants or possibly those you teach have a chance to gain a title more easily." Gregory finished.
For a while everyone was focused on playing with their system to try and find new information in it, but they were unable to find anything that they didn't already know about.
Finally, they turned to the message section where they found a letter from Hrólmir. When they opened it, they heard fanfare and saw some sparkles, whatever that was about, before they were able to read it.
"Congratulations on activating your system=) Once more let me thank you for being the first people to test my system, Thank You! Now I'm sure you will have many questions however I will not be answering any more questions beyond what I already have.
Instead, I want all of you to find problems with my system and report them to me, with each report I will analyze what happened and send a response. This response may or may not be to your satisfaction. I will not be adjusting the system to be personalized for you; it is meant for the residents of Faengsel to grow stronger as a whole.
Outside of you four I will also be selecting others to give me feedback as the system spreads around the world.
Now all of you managed to close a void space and brought me a world crystal to establish the system. In recognition of that achievement, I have taken the liberty of providing each of you with a gift that I believe is most suited for your current situation.
Thank you for all of your support. Sincerely Hrólmir Snowmane."
"Looks like Hrólmir sent all of us gifts. Mine is a method called The Divine Beast method, apparently training with this method will allow me to start generating divine power. That will help awaken my bloodline, but it looks like training takes forever. Anybody else want to share?" Chronos said.
Lyla spoke up, "I think I need help with my gift. It's a blueprint for a reliquary called the Plumbline Reliquary, but some of the ingredients to craft it are difficult to find. The reliquary itself is very helpful."
"Sure, I'm happy to help. What about you two?" Chronos asked Gregory and Sariah.
Looking over his gift Gregory said, "I received something called the Nightweave Aura Threads. It is a combat technique that forms aura into a number of threads that can be used to control the battlefield. Right now, I can make 20 threads, and they extend 8 meters from me.
It looks like I can use them together with my Leighla Assassin techniques to sense a wider range or investigate hidden areas without endangering myself. That's very helpful."
The others weren't sure whether to be impressed or not but if Gregory says they are useful then he must have some idea on how to use them.
Turning to look at Sariah they saw her crouching and drawing something on the ground.
Hmm, was that a ritual circle she was drawing? That's not good, there's no telling what might appear from it!
"Wait, Sariah, don't finish that circle!" Gregory shouted a second too late.
The circle glowed as a strange mist came out of it. The mist started to spin just inside the circle as its center was filled with darkness.
From that darkness a large, fist-sized moth flew out. Its fur was dark purple that occasionally had red streaks flash through it. Its wings looked like thin parchment, and it had hooks on the end of its antennae.
Gregory pulled Sariah back as Chronos and Lyla stepped in front of them, ready to fight.
The moth seemed shocked, unsure why they were so hostile to it. Then Sariah yelled at them.
"Stop! She's my friend."
"Friend? What did you summon, Sariah?" Gregory asked.
"It's a suture wisp moth. My gift was a ritual to summon and bond with one, it specializes in handling curses and can vastly speed up my research. They're very helpful to those who handle curses but almost impossible to find."
Sariah struggled out of Gregory's grasp and crawled over to the circle once more. Holding out her left hand it gently landed on her outstretched palm, then bit her wrist. At first Gregory was worried but then a contract tattoo spread from the bite to halfway up her forearm.
