Reincarnated as a Fisherman and a Dad Chapter 175
After a nice lovey-dovey moment, Maya lay down next to Karlos, resting her head on his chest and enjoying the warmth and steady rhythm of his breathing.
Karlos was staring at the ceiling, his mind was still troubled by what had happened earlier. He couldn't believe the island was now compromised by so many fishermen. The image of crowded reefs and strangers scraping everything clean replayed in his mind.
Aside from that, he was also worried about the future.
"Are you still worried about it?" Maya asked softly, noticing the slight furrow on his brow.
"We had a steady profit because of the island. But now that I'm thinking of buying a bigger boat and sailing farther, I'm not sure if we will earn the same amount of money. What if we can't even earn 5,000 pesos per sail? What will happen then?"
Listening to Karlos's worries, Maya couldn't help but giggle. She kissed his cheek and cupped his face, her thumbs brushing lightly against his skin.
"Babe, you're probably the best fisherman in our neighborhood. If there's something I'm confident about, it's the fact that you're always lucky whenever you're at sea. I believe that you will always catch an abundance of fish. And don't belittle 5,000 pesos, it's not that small."
Karlos stared into Maya's eyes. They were so beautiful, filled with a sincerity and warmth that made his worries vanish. He hugged her, and she squealed in happiness. They shared a kiss until they were breathless.
"I'm very lucky to have married you." He meant every word.
"Geez, you and your flattery." She rolled her eyes playfully, though her lips curved into a smile.
"I'm being serious," Karlos replied.
"Alright, alright. So what kind of boat do you want to buy? Are you going to buy a commercial trawler boat as Antonio did?"
"Nope," Karlos immediately answered. He recalled that Antonio's commercial trawler boat cost 20 million pesos, Karlos was not crazy enough to buy a boat like that... at least not now. He still had a strong sense of caution despite his savings.
"We have enough savings to buy one, though," Maya casually pointed out, knowing their financial situation well. Their savings were over 58 million pesos. That was a lot.
"But I can't spend about half of our savings on a boat, I can't accept that." Karlos shook his head. He wasn't ready to spend such a huge amount of money. "I'm thinking of buying a mid-size bangka instead, something that costs 100,000 pesos with a faster engine." He explained his plan more clearly.
"Hm." Maya nodded, agreeing with his practical approach.
"Besides, half of our savings were already transferred to the kids' education funds and savings accounts," Karlos added.
Being a father who loved his two children, he had already made savings accounts for them, with each kid having 10 million pesos. When they grew older, they would have a better opportunity in life, something he never had.
Karlos never had the experience of making a choice in his two lifetimes. In his original world, he was an orphan who had to start working at a young age. He didn't have a chance to enjoy life, and money was always a problem.
He didn't want his children to experience his hardships. So, as early as possible, he prepared savings accounts for Arabella and Iñigo. When they turned 18 years old, they would have a better choice in life and the freedom to choose their own path. That amount could help them go to college or even start a business if they wanted to.
Maya didn't see any problem with Karlos's decision, and she agreed to divide their money. As a mother, she felt better knowing the children had a secure future, now that money was not a problem, it gave her peace of mind.
Maya rested her head on his chest again, feeling his heartbeat.
"I believe that things will get better. So you don't have to worry about the future. No matter what happens, I'll always be with you," she assured him.
When Karlos heard that, joy surged in his heart. He smiled and hugged Maya tightly.
Because of that... Maya farted.
Karlos had abruptly hugged her and squeezed her stomach, which forced the gas to escape.
The sound was quite loud, and the couple paused awkwardly. Maya blushed and glared at Karlos, her face turning bright red instantly.
"Why did you have to do that!?" She covered her face in embarrassment. It was awkward, especially after such a romantic moment.
"What? People fart. There's nothing bad about it," Karlos shrugged.
Karlos didn't mind the smell. In fact... he leaned closer mischievously. "I kinda like the smell," he said with a grin.
"You hooligan!" She lightly slapped his shoulder and Karlos chuckled.
He took a long sniff, inhaling through his nose. The scent was heavenly addicting, at least to him. "Hm, smells like my size," he teased her.
"Karlos!" she protested loudly.
"I'm just saying," he laughed.
"... Tch, you do know that it has been your size for years now," she muttered under her breath, but loud enough for him to hear.
No amount of context could save that statement.
The couple cuddled and spent a few more minutes in bed. By the time they left the room, the twins were peacefully sleeping on the couch. The television was already turned off, as Iñigo knew how to use the remote control.
"They are so adorable," Maya whispered, making sure she wouldn't wake them.
Honestly, taking care of two children was a nightmare sometimes, and Maya was tired most of the day. But she wouldn't exchange motherhood for anything, it was the most meaningful role she had ever held. She had carried her children in her womb for nine months, and their bonds grew stronger every day after their birth. She loved them and didn't want to miss a single day without them.
So even though her children were difficult to handle, her love would never change, it only grew stronger.
"Let's take an afternoon nap too," Karlos suggested quietly.
"Okay."
The couple laid bedding on the tiled floor. They decided to sleep in the living room so they could stay close to their children. After their 'finance meeting,' they were tired, so they quickly fell asleep.
An hour later, when the twins woke up, they saw their parents sleeping on the floor. Arabella rubbed her eyes before climbing down. They could climb up and down the couch with ease now, they were getting bigger. Iñigo followed his sister's lead.
When their feet touched the floor, they pitter-pattered toward their parents to wake them up.
"Ma, Pa." Iñigo shook them, but his small arms were not enough to move them. Still, Karlos gradually woke up from the disturbance.
"I'm awake now."
The children giggled and hugged Karlos as he sat up, happy that they had succeeded in waking him.
"These kids didn't want to let us rest, huh?" Maya also woke up.
"I'll cook tonight. What do you want to eat?" Karlos asked Maya and the kids.
"I liked the deep fried shrimp you cooked last time," Maya answered, and the twins eagerly nodded their heads.
"You mean shrimp tempura? Alright, I'll cook shrimp tempura tonight."
"Yay!" The twins jumped happily.
"I also want a hot calamansi juice," Maya added.
Calamansi is a sour fruit from the citrus family, think of it as a tiny, unripe orange. Drinking hot calamansi juice was delicious and warming, and Maya and the kids loved it.
