Even from outside, Geron could feel the pressure pushing through that gap. It wasn't normal pheromone pressure. He had his mecha touch down hard enough to crater the gravel path.
Twenty meters away, the huge zerg was already in motion, picking its way out of the barrier. Faceted compound eyes were like wet coal. Mandibles clicking in a rhythm.
On its back, slumped a small figure with brown hair and an even smaller circlet of bright copper wire around the head. That person seemed to be unconscious.
A second figure clung lower, a young man Geron didn't recognize.
"Brigade, target identification: high-grade zerg variant, humanoid rider hostile, second rider non-combatant and possible hostage."
Geron fed the visual feed up to the unit.
"I'll seal the hole with the body of my mecha. Kill all the zergs within the perimeter."
He kicked the boosters, and the mecha launched in a low arc. He slammed shoulder-first into the barrier at the angle that he planned.
