Chapter 10 - Completing Quest

Rex spent nearly four hours digging for information. Not all the knowledge he possessed was wrong—but some parts were missing, like a corrupted hard disk had been installed in his brain.

"Soulforgers are divided into Ranks given by the SF Association, and common knowledge among them is that a human can only forge one Soul Tool, or they could die from overloading the soul. By hunting beasts, they can increase their Soul Energy, which can be used to enhance the body!"Rex scratched his head in confusion.

Looks like I was an idiot. Should've verified the info first thing!

After searching through history and the world setting online—

At least that's the same, Rex thought, relieved. Then he shifted his attention to something far more important—his daily quests.

Getting up from bed and pulling off the sensors attached to his body, he looked up at the camera in the empty room. Then he saw his reflection in the mirror again. He touched his white hair, getting a feel for it, and narrowed his eyes at the door—like it could open at any moment.

I have to be thick-skinned, Rex told himself. Just imagining the doctors' reactions if they saw what he was about to do!.They might even bind me to the bed and check my head for any damage.

He dropped into a push-up position on the cold tile floor. With one last glance at the camera—and as straight a face as possible—he began.

This… easy?! Rex was shocked after completing his first push-up. Just yesterday, he struggled to do even one properly. The difference was enormous.

"Ugh—50! Haa... haa..." Rex was nearly gasping for air. He'd lost all strength, his arms burned, and he could barely lift them.

"Huff... I overdid it... Huff... so this is my limit," he muttered, collapsing onto the cold white tiles like a fish out of water.

"Haa... huh? What the—?! Is this for real?"Rex suddenly pushed himself up and sat, staring at his hand. All the fatigue vanished within seconds—his breath returned to normal unnaturally fast.

My theory was right?! 'Extra Life' is really an overpowered skill!Rex stared blankly at his own hands, then, just to confirm, did five more push-ups.

"It's easier than the first time?! Mean… my muscles retain progress!" Rex mumbled and immediately began another set.

"Hah! I don't feel as tired as before!" Rex quickly opened the System's Quest tab to check his progress.

[ Daily Quest ][Push-ups: 100/100][Pull-ups: 0/100][Sit-ups: 0/100][Running: 0/5 km][ Reward: None ]

A smile graced his face, and a tear of happiness nearly rolled down his cheek.

Finally! Finally, I did it! Rex thought, grinning like a madman.

"Now no more trips to the restroom! "

After that, Rex moved on to sit-ups—they were relatively easy. And thanks to his healing skill, even the dreaded after-effects of leg day vanished in seconds. Within moments, he was back at full strength, all fatigue gone as if it had never existed.

Damn, this feels so good! If I keep doing this every day, I'll have abs and a toned body like an athlete in just a few weeks! Rex grinned at the thought.

But suddenly, a terrifying possibility struck him—what if this skill...

Wait… what if it's draining to much of my life force?!

Panic creeping in, Rex quickly opened the system tab and checked the remaining lifespan associated with the skill.

Phew… He sighed in relief when he saw no changes on the screen.

For one second, I thought I was shaving years off my life just to look good shirtless...haha Rex laughed.

Now only pull-ups and running remain... Rex thought, holding his chin as he looked out the window. A cement forest greeted him—gray buildings stacked tightly together, with no sign of a park or any exercise area in sight. Then his eyes slowly drifted up to the surveillance camera in the corner of the room.

This place is restricting me... Rex narrowed his eyes.

Now that his body was not only fully healed but healthier than ever, he had zero motivation to stay confined in the hospital. The walls felt tighter by the minute.

I should just run away. Even if they can trace me, it's not like they'll have eyes on me 24/7 . He clenched his fists. Fuu… I can't explain the weird things I'm doing because of the System anyway!

And besides… who likes being under constant surveillance?

Rex got to work quickly, checking the two cameras placed in opposite corners of the room.

'There are more... Should I just walk through the doors? Who's even stopping me, anyway?' Rex thought, firm in his decision. After all, it wasn't like he had all the time in the world—though it was still early in the morning.

'I should grab my belongings first.'
