Noel snuggles deeper against his mother's side, watching her long, slender fingers spin the gold band on her left hand. The diamonds set in the metal catch the light and sparkle like stars. "Getting married?"
Natalia chuckles softly. "Not quite. It's like getting married, but instead of making a promise with your words, you make a promise with your soul. Once you do that, no one will be able to tear you apart. But you have to be careful, angel." She pets through Noel's hair. "Once you make that promise, you can't take it back. So make sure to only choose someone you really, really love."
The words don't all make sense to Noel, but he gets the idea, and he frowns. "Can I do that? Even though father doesn't like me and I'm not a good guide?"
