Troy:
"Come on, Troy, you cannot be so bitter that you won't see the difference between right and wrong," she added, her tone softer now, almost with a hint of pleading.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked.
"I'm just asking you to look at it this way," she said, clearing her throat. "My son was only doing what the council told him to do."
She paused just to see our reactions. Probably to see if she was able to convince us.
"And it's not like anyone could go against the council. Look what happened to Clementine," she whispered.
"Yeah, by your son," Leysa snapped.
I laughed with her.
But that small reaction was met with scrutiny from my father and stepmother.
"Well, as a daughter-in-law, you're clearly not capable of understanding that you're upsetting your in-laws," my father remarked.
I felt ashamed, watching my family behave this way in front of her.
