Mazikeen didn't show up to school . Lilith notices quickly and becomes worried. She tried texting him - but no answer. She tried calling him - again, no answer. Lilith was now extremely worried about Mazikeen. By the end of the school day, Lilith immediately went looking for Mazikeen. She found a flat that looked like where Mazikeen lived, and spots a familiar figure on the roof and decided to check it out. She travelled up the flat all the way to the top. The ascent of the stairs felt like an eternity - as if someone's life was in the balance. There was someone sitting on the edge staring at the sky.
"Mazikeen?" She said, trying to sound calm.
"Lilith?" Mazikeen said, surprised, looking behind him. "What are you doing here?" He said, standing up.
"I should be asking you the same question." She said, irate yet calm.
"... I'm hiding from my dad." Maz said quietly as he sat back down. Lilith walked over a9nd sat down next to maz.
Blood was dripping from a cut on Mazikeen's cheek. Lilith grabbed a plaster out of her bag, wiping some of the blood off with her thumb and putting the plaster on it.
"... Oh. Thanks." Mazikeen said calmly. Too calmly.
"How did you get the cut Maz?" Lilith says adjusting her hearing aids.
"My dad was yelling at my brothers again and he went to hit one of them and I jumped infront and his nail caught my skin I didn't really have time to clean it." Mazikeen says too calmly for someone living in a abusive household.
"Mazikeen that's not normal you need to report that!" Lilith said urgently.
"I can't Lilith I've tried it doesn't help!" Tears started developing in Mazikeen's eye's. Lilith hugged Mazikeen holding him tight to her chest "it's ok, if that doesn't work we'll just have to face it together." We sit there in silence for anouther half an hour. By the time one of us devides to speak the moon is already high in the sky. Lilith get up looking at her phone typing something.
"Maz I need to start getting home,I have a bunch of missed calls from my granny," she said a little panicked as she quickly types something on her phone.
"Alright..." he say quietly still staring out at the starry sky not even glancing at lilith.
"Do you think your dad is asleep now?" She says trying to push the idea of Maz going home as quick as she van so she doesn't worry her granparents anymore than she already has.
"Probably," he said slowly standing up.
They starting walking, both silent, neither of them knew what to say. They just walked. And walked. Until they reached a deep blue door Mazikeen shuttered at the sight of it but still reaches out to open it. Lilith gives him a little wave while she disapears down the stairs.
Mazikeen closes the door and turns around to see a little boy, he just stands there for a sec before rushing forward and wrapping his hands around Maz.
Henry alexander lee, youngest of the lee children, 8 years old.
"Oh, Henry, what are you doing still awake?" Maz says kneeling down to his baby brothers hight.
"You disapeared, I didn't know where you went, so I just waited." He said his voice breaking.
"Did you wake up Harry?" Maz said trying to calmly get an idea of what had happened while he was gone.
"No, you know he's a deep sleeper," he ays calming down a bit.
"Alright, let get you back to bed," Maz says standing back up.
We walk back the shared room,Harry still fast asleep in his bed. I walked quietley over to the bunkbed with Henry.
I tucked him in to bed. And walked of to the drawer going to the pj drawer grabbing out a pair and shoving it on quickly. And collapsing in the top of the bunkbed but no matter how many times I closed my eyes they would not stay shut.
