Chapter 280 - Chapter 280: Spirit Sword Mountain Part 6: Shooting A Star!

Nox's POV:

"There better be a mad scientist convention up there, or I am going to look very stupid with this hairdo!" I said, while feeling the wind blow through my statically charged hair.

Apparently, whoever lives here owns a pet thundercloud, that's trained to zap people on sight. It was so annoying and obnoxious, as it kept trying to push me down the mountain. I was tempted to kill it, but depending on how wicked this guy is, I decided to lay off, just in case he suddenly decided to come after me to avenge the pet cloud from his dead franken-wife or something.

"On the plus side, I got this sweet new hairdo from all that thunder-licking the cloud did."

My hair is made out of the strongest spider-silk around, also known as 'Arachnid silk'. It's highly resistant to most of the elements and durable enough to hold down a dragon. So, it's going to take a little more than a few lightning bolts to the scalp to burn these puppies off my head.

*Inhale*

"Nothing like a breath of lethally low-pressure air to get my climb on!" I said, as I finally got to enjoy the perks of the special lungs I had made for this body of mine, that allows me to breathe at pretty much any altitude short of outer space.

My body, as frustratingly difficult it is to permanently change, has been modified to be able to survive in nearly any environment. Either through implants, or genetic enhancements, which I regularly need to check up on in case my subconscious decides to pull one over on me. I am highly resistant to most environmental damage and is capable of regulating my own body temperature at will. I can substitute a lack of oxygen with other types of gases should it be necessary and I can endure high- and low-pressure differences, making it possible for me to go diving into the ocean depth or messing around in the upper atmosphere with relative ease. Though my draconic bloodline would practically allow for the same thing, my version is more awesome. I'm not bias! You are!

"Still haven't quite figured out, outer-space yet though, but I'm sure I'll come up with something or another when the time comes!"

After I left the thunder puppy troposphere and tasted the none-breathable air of the chill stratosphere, I was almost certain there was going to be a third thingy, but there wasn't. I mean, it was kind of windy I guess, and the rocks started to get a little slippery from all the ice crystals forming up here, but nothing all that noteworthy. Well, aside from the share distance I had to climb that is. Apparently, this guy has a cloud obsession and wanted to live so high he could play with the noctilucent clouds in the mesosphere. Which is where I am about to reach next.

"Well, I'm sure there isn't going to be anything to worry about up here either!"

*BOOM*

"Oh right, meteors happen in the mesosphere." I muttered, as I was free falling thanks to the shooting star that exploded in my face.

*Swoosh*

*Smack*

Using my extendable spider-hair to swing myself face first into the icy turd pillar being assaulted by a gang of violent little stars, I began climbing my way back to where I was before.

"Man, grocery shopping must be such a drag for this guy if this is what he has to deal with all this shit every time he runs out of milk." I said, as I pulled out my magic gun to shoot the big space rock heading my way.

*BOOM*

...

"S-S-So, c-c-cold!" Jai stuttered out.

After blindly charging into the thunderclouds, Jai surprisingly survived. Even though he was a lightning element cultivator with a higher resistance to being electrocuted than most, the injuries he had sustained prior would make that irrelevant. One or two thunderbolts would be enough to end his life in the state he was in, but fortunately, Jai was holding on to the Roaring Thunder sword which absorbed all the lightning strikes that would have otherwise killed him as he ran straight through the thunder cloud.

However, what came next is something he was not prepared for. Namely, the biting cold of the stratosphere.

"Wh-Wh-Where m-m-my h-h-hands o-o-on th-that g-g-girl, sh-she w-w-will p-pay f-f-for th-this!"

Although being a nascent soul allows him to survive in harsh environments like this for a time, it is only temporary. The low air pressure, the low concentration of oxygen in the air, and the fridged cold will eventually kill him. If the cold air had not frozen his wounds shut, preventing any more blood loss, he would have likely perished already.

"N-Never f-forgive h-her! G-G-Going t-to k-kill!" Jai stuttered as he steadied himself on a sword hilt.

Also, something Jai had discovered shortly after reaching the stratosphere was that as long as he doesn't pull out the sword at least, he can still touch the swords without being transported away from spirit sword mountain. He had discovered this when slipping on the icy rocks of the mountain, reflexively grabbing on to a sword to steady himself as he did. Apparently, ice is almost impossible to magnetize which interfered a bit with his qi technique, and so he has been rather unsteady on his feet ever since. Hence, he has been actively trying to move through areas with the least amount of frost, while using the swords to steady himself whenever possible. He had also started getting the hang of walking on walls now, hence his walking speed has increased somewhat from what it was before, as he has a better grasp on how much energy to use without breaking his footing. However, it is still too slow, as the pace at which he was moving wouldn't let him catch up to where Nox was before dying.

"How f-f-far a-w-way is she? N-Need t-to g-go f-faster!"

Jai realizing his situation given that he could no longer see how far up Nox had gotten, desperately tried to think of a way to speed things up, and as he pulled himself up by one of the blades in the ground, he got an idea.
