Chapter 1 - The girl in the rain

Chapter One: The Girl in the Rain

The rain fell in relentless sheets, turning the city streets into rivers of silver beneath the glow of streetlights.

she ran.

Her lungs burned with every breath. Her bare feet slapped against the wet pavement, and the oversized hospital gown she wore clung to her skin. She didn't know who she was. She didn't know where she had come from.

She only knew one thing.

She had to keep running.

The alarms had begun minutes earlier.

Red lights flashed through the sterile corridors as voices echoed behind her.

"Stop her!"

"Don't let her leave the building!"

The words sent a chill through her. She didn't know why they wanted her, but every instinct screamed that staying was dangerous.

the girl had slipped through an emergency exit and disappeared into the storm.

Now she raced through unfamiliar streets, her heart pounding wildly.

A sharp pain throbbed in her head.

Images flashed before her eyes.

A woman's laughter.

A field of flowers.

A pair of hands reaching for her.

Then darkness.

She stumbled.

"Who am I?" she whispered desperately.

The question vanished into the rain.

Behind her, distant voices shouted again.

Fear surged through her veins.

She pushed herself forward.

Across town, Ian powers loosened his tie as he drove home from another exhausting day. At twenty-six, he had built a reputation as one of the city's most successful businessmen.

he had four companies he is managing one of them was a family business and the other three personally belonged to him,yet success didn't make him as happy as he had expected.

The luxurious car felt empty.

The mansion waiting for him felt empty.

Everything felt empty.

Rain hammered against the windshield as he turned onto a quieter road.

Then something moved in front of him.

A figure.

A girl.

Ian's eyes widened.

She appeared out of nowhere.

"Watch out!"

He slammed on the brakes.

The tires screeched.

The car skidded across the wet road.

she turned toward the headlights, frozen by the blinding light.

For a split second, their eyes met.

Then everything happened at once.

The impact wasn't severe, but it was enough.

she was thrown to the side and collapsed onto the pavement.

Ian's heart nearly stopped.

He jumped from the car and rushed toward her.

"Hey! Hey, can you hear me?" Ian said,

Rain soaked both of them within seconds.

The girl lay motionless.

A thin stream of blood trickled from her nose.

Ian carefully lifted her head.

Her face was pale.

Beautiful, yet strangely fragile.

Her eyelids fluttered

"please don't take me back there I'm..... I'm tired she said weakly.

Her voice faded.

Then she lost consciousness.

Ian cursed under his breath.

Without hesitation, he lifted her into his arms.

She weighed almost nothing.

Whoever she was, she looked exhausted.

Terrified.

Lost.

He carried her to the car and sped toward the nearest hospital.

The entire drive, he couldn't shake the strange feeling twisting in his chest.

He had never seen this girl before.

Yet somehow...

It felt as if fate had just placed her directly in his path. perhaps to implicate Him.

As the hospital came into view through the storm, Ian tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

He had no idea that the unconscious girl beside him was about to change his life forever

The emergency room doors burst open as Ian carried the unconscious girl inside.

"Help!" he shouted. "She was hit by my car!"

Within seconds, nurses rushed forward with a stretcher.

"Sir, put her down here."

Ian carefully laid her on the stretcher. His clothes were soaked from the rain, but he barely noticed.

The medical team wheeled her away while doctors fired questions at him.

"Name?"

"I don't know."

"Age?"

"I don't know."

"Family?"

"I don't know."

The doctor stopped writing and stared at him.

"You don't know anything?"

Ian ran a hand through his wet hair.

"I found her on the road. She appeared out of nowhere."

The doctor nodded and disappeared behind the swinging doors.

Hours passed.

Ian sat in the waiting area, his eyes fixed on the emergency room entrance.

He should have left.

Any reasonable person would have left.

Yet something kept him there.

At nearly three in the morning, a doctor finally emerged.

"Mr. powers?

Ian immediately stood.

"How is she?"

The doctor adjusted his glasses.

"Fortunately, her injuries aren't life-threatening. She has a mild concussion, several bruises, and a few cuts that required stitches. The impact itself wasn't severe."

Ian released a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.

"Can I see her?"

The doctor's expression became thoughtful.

"There's something else."

Ian frowned.

"What is it?"

"When she arrived, we conducted routine neurological examinations. Physically, she's stable. However, she appears to be suffering from memory loss."

Ian froze.

"Memory loss?"

"Yes. Based on our preliminary assessment, she cannot remember who she is."

The words hung heavily in the air.

"Will she recover?"

"It's difficult to say. Sometimes memories return within days. Sometimes it takes months. Occasionally..." the doctor paused, "...they never fully return."

Ian glanced toward the hospital room.

A girl with no name.

No family.

No past.

No memories.

"Can I see her now?" he asked quietly.

The doctor nodded.

"Room 307."

Ian made his way through the silent corridor.

When he reached the room, he hesitated before pushing open the door.

The girl lay peacefully on the bed.

A bandage covered part of her forehead.

Machines beeped softly beside her.

For a moment, she looked younger than he remembered.

Fragile.

Lost.

As if she had been dropped into a world she no longer recognized.

Suddenly, her fingers twitched.

Ian straightened.

Her eyelids fluttered open.

Confusion immediately filled her eyes.

She looked around the room before her gaze landed on him.

Fear crossed her face.

"Where am I?"

"The hospital," Ian answered gently.

She struggled to sit up.

Pain flashed across her features.

"What happened?" the girl asked

"You were injured." Ian replied calmly.

The girl stared at him.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Ian powers"

She repeated the name softly.

"Ian..."

Then she touched her head.

A strange emptiness settled over her expression.

For the first time since waking up, the reality of her situation crashed down on her.

She had lost everything.

Even herself.

The room fell silent.

Then Ian did something neither of them expected.

He pulled a chair closer to her bed and sat down.

"You may not remember your past," he said quietly, "but you're alive. That's what matters right now."

The girl stared at him.

For some reason, his calm voice eased the terror gripping her heart.

"What happens now?" she whispered.

Ian looked at her for a long moment.

"What happens now," he said softly, "is to sort out your hospital bills first". he said and left the room

The next morning, Ian kept his word.

He arranged for the hospital bills to be paid and offered to help the mysterious girl until her memories returned.

"You can stay somewhere safe," he said. "At least until we figure out who you are."

The girl immediately shook her head.

"No."

Ian raised an eyebrow.

"No?"

"I don't know you."the girl said

"Fair point."Ian replied

"And I don't want to be a burden, she said lowering her head

"A burden?" he repeated. "You were hit by my car."

"Still."

Ian sighed.

The girl was stubborn.

"Fine. If that's what you want."

He handed her a card.

"My number is on it. If you change your mind, call me."

She hesitated before accepting it.

Then he left.did I do the right thing she thought to herself.

Eight hours later.

The hospital discharged her.

The moment she stepped outside, reality hit her harder than any injury.

She had nowhere to go.

No family.

No friends.

No memories.

Nothing.

People hurried past her without a second glance.

Cars rushed through the streets.

The entire city moved on as if she didn't exist.

she felt truly alone, more alone than she was in the hands of those kidnappers all she ever wanted was to escape was to have her freedom well she has it now, what next she thought to herself.

She sat on a bench near the hospital entrance and stared at the card in her hands.

Ian power's

The only person whose name she knew.

The only person who had shown her kindness.

She stared at the number for several minutes.

then she shook her head,"no I can't what if he throws me out one day what do I do then.

But if I stay here these people might catch up to me again I can't go back there if they catch me they'd kill me the girl thought. she sat there aimlessly.

three hours passed, her tummy grumbled the last food she had was boiled plain beans, cold beans and that was two days ago.the hunger plus the medicationade her dizzy, life seemed to be suffocating her the more. and eventually she gave into her only choice.

Standing up from the bench she went to the red telephone booth.

Then she finally called.

The phone rang once.

Twice.

Three times.

"Hello?"

His deep voice came through immediately.

The girl's throat tightened.

"It's me."

A pause.

"The hospital girl?"

"Yes."

Ian sat up from his office chair.

Something in her voice sounded different.

Smaller.

"What's wrong?"

For several seconds she couldn't speak.

Then the words came out in a whisper.

"I don't know where to go."

Silence.

"I thought I could manage."

Her voice trembled.

"But I can't."erm.....if I'm not too late I reconsidered your offer I was wrong please can u come I....I promise to pay you back once I recover she said.and then beep he ended the call not saying anything. she went to sit back down wondering if he'd come or not hours passed. Ian looked out his window and the city was already getting dark he sighed in frustration.

he picked his phone and called again the ringing of the telephone caught her attention and she went to pick it up luckily for her it was who she prayed it is.

where are you?? he asked briefly.

I'm still outside the hospital she said, Ian looked at his watch and it was 7pm he sighed and hung up.

Forty minutes later, a sleek black Bugatti pulled up beside the curb.

People nearby stopped to stare.

The luxury car looked completely out of place near the crowded hospital entrance.

The drivers window lowered.

Ian looked at her.

Neither spoke.

For a moment, the girl simply stood there clutching her hospital gown.

Then Ian pushed the passenger door open.

"Get in."he said briefly.

She hesitated for a while .

Her instincts told her to be careful.

But what choice did she have?

She took a deep breath and climbed inside.

The leather seats were softer than anything she could remember.

Not that she remembered much.

Ian pulled away from the curb.

For several minutes, silence filled the car.

The city lights reflected against the windows.

The girl stared outside.

"Thank you," she finally whispered.

Ian glanced at her.

"You don't need to thank me."

"I do."

He didn't answer.

After another few moments, she spoke again.

"There's something strange."

"What?"

"I don't even know what to call myself."

The words hung heavily between them.

Ian tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

She was right.

Every person needed a name.

Without one, she felt like a ghost.

He thought for a moment.

Then something caught his attention.

A billboard stood ahead.

Painted across it was an advertisement for a luxury perfume.

The model stood in a field of white lilies beneath a bright sky.

Something about the image felt familiar.

Peaceful.

Elegant.

The girl's eyes followed his gaze.

"Lilies are beautiful," she said softly.

Ian looked at her.

Then a name suddenly came to mind.

"Aria."

She blinked.

"What?"

"Aria."

He repeated it.

"It suits you."

The girl rolled the name around in her mind.

Aria.

"Aria," she whispered.

Ian nodded.

"Until you remember who you are, that's your name."

A small smile appeared on her face.

It was faint.

Fragile.

But real.

"Aria," she said again.

Neither of them noticed the black SUV parked across the street.

Or the man inside it watching the Bugatti disappear into traffic.

Watching Aria.

Waiting.

Because somewhere in the city, someone already knew exactly who she was.
