Somewhere upstairs the girls were still laughing, completely unaware that Lux Vaelthorn, normally composed through assassination attempts, market crashes, and infernal politics, was currently having an emotional crisis because a shy mermaid looked at him too trustingly.
Lux exhaled slowly and brushed his fingers gently through Ariel's hair.
"Ariel…"
Her eyes lifted toward him immediately.
Soft.
Curious.
A little nervous.
"You sure you want to do this?"
The question surprised her.
Because his voice didn't sound hungry.
Not really.
