Thick black smoke billowed through the shattered walls, defence turrets reduced to jaggered metal imbedded in crumbled concrete. The railway artillery boomed over the land, dozens of shells striking the biter swarms. The swarms flowed over countless fallen biter corpses, the constant barrage of shells did little to slow their advance.
Soon the booming artillery fell silent, the railway crossed too close to swam. Biters flooded over the railway track, destroying lengths with ease. Engineers on the frontline tried their best to halt to train but it was far too late. The train slammed into the swarms, artillery carriages slammed into one another, flipping and buckling the last line of defence before the Great Wall.
Countless engineers fell before the wall, overwhelmed by biters, corpses ripped apart, consumed. Biters hit the wall like a tsunami, an unstoppable force pathing destruction in its wake. Ammo quickly ran dry, engineers fell, the compound had been breached. The swarms swept through, chasing the fresh pollutants. The weapons manufacturing district fell first, the power grid was decimated, the science complexes reduced to rubble.
The colony was lost, hope for the next frontier destroyed. Millions of pollution feeding biters lay in wait, waiting for the new generation of engineers to land, waiting to feed.
