Cherreads

the end of the old

"He is a cursed child, can't compare to a finger of my dear April"

Those were the words I heard as I regained consciousness. I couldn't register what was happening before I felt the hard push that threw me into the portal and then the nausea that accompanies space travel. I can feel the pain of betrayal even more than the spitting headache I have right now. My fiance holding my brother in his arms, my father staring silently as I was disgraced and discarded, the laughter coming from the man I call brother now nestled in my fiance's arms.

'your brother and Luz are in love. It's useless trying to come between them simply because you are the oldest. That's a major reason you should give up this marriage. You wouldn't want to see you younger brother unhappy right? Said my stepmother with a winning smirk.

How can she do this to me? My stepmother. How can she laugh so freely? "I'm not trying to cause trouble or separate lovers" I said. You brought me this dress, you told me the wedding was holding but if this isn't my own wedding, what am I doing in here? "your husband has been chosen already, you will go to him today". how could I be so naive to believe them when they said they found me a good home? What will happen to me now?

A million thoughts swirl in my mind and I felt like I've been rolling for days but in reality it was just a few seconds and I landed with a thud, in the place my family had dumped me to, to a stranger I've never met, on my wedding day.

Too numb to care about the pain from my fall I looked up at the man I was 'given' to. A man in his early twenties stood before me, tall, dark, Thin, almost emaciated. He looked like he would fall over at anytime and behind him were a group of noisy people, his family I suppose, though judging by their mocking laughter and insults that he wasn't very welcomed in the family. I am not surprised. That witch will never let me get anything good but I made up my mind the moment his eyes met mine, I am going to be happy, with this humble husband, in this poor village, I will live and so will my husband. I stood up slowly as I take in my environment and try to understand what was happening with my so called wedding. Well, the man in the ragged red clothing doesn't seem to know it was his wedding day neither does his 'family' seem to realise that the bride was already at the venue. They paused when they noticed my movement.... Or my dirty self. 'Look at the wife' says a young teenage boy, 'they look perfect for each other '

''such a vile thing even thinks he can choose ah, you should be grateful we even found someone willing to accept you" said a middle aged man who I assume is the father of 'my' husband. We were all standing in front of an old hut with crumbling walls. At the front is a small clearing that leads to where I suppose is the village. The house is located at edge of the village and looking behind you can see a mountain a short distance away. I listen on as my 'husband's was mocked and insulted in every way possible and he took it all, silent but I could see the fire he was holding back in his eyes.

'enough!! I yelled when I couldn't take it anymore. 'let's get this wedding over with'.

'look at him sounding so disrespectful to his elders. That's why you were dumped with this idiot brother. You should be grateful we didn't agree to sell you like the madam said ' oh, so the witch Wanted me sold. Got it

I stepped forward ready to pour out my heart's frustrations on this damn family but a hand caught my wrist and pulled me back. It was my husband shaking his head. He turned around and said 'I'm grateful for the gifts and for my wife. We have both kept our part of the break and if you don't mind, my wife needs to rest' there was resounding laughter as they turned to leave, not forgetting to throw fake congratulations and mocking wishes as they leave.
