Mason Nightshade asked Gustavo Yates to take Aurelia Shaw home, watching as she left in the elevator. Mason's gaze deepened before he turned back to the hospital room.
Kai Nightshade's chest rose and fell, his face pale. Upon hearing movement at the door, he looked over, and only when he saw it was Mason did his expression improve. Yet he suddenly seemed to recall something and coldly turned his face away.
Apparently, he didn't want to engage much with Mason.
Mason wasn't surprised. He gave the nurse a look, and she tactfully left. Once the door was closed, Mason took a slow seat next to Kai, picked up an apple, and began peeling it meticulously.
Kai shot him a sidelong glance and snorted, "Don't plead for that girl."
"Why would I plead for her?" Mason's tone was neutral. "She didn't do anything wrong. Do I have to plead for her?"
Kai had plenty to say. Didn't do anything wrong? Her mother was involved in the death of my son, your father, Godwin Nightshade. Is that not wrong?
