Chapter 157 - Chapter 156: Teaching the X- Men (1)

The Avengers were led to the X-Men training room. The room was enormous. It looked more like an indoor arena than a normal gym. The walls, floor, and ceiling were made from a special metal alloy.

Hank had explained earlier that the metal could withstand almost any mutant power. Fire could not melt it. Ice could not crack it. Energy blasts bounced off without leaving a mark. The ceiling was high enough for flight practice. The floor had reinforced sections that could handle massive impacts.

Machines lined the sides of the room. Some looked like high-tech treadmills with force fields. Others had holographic projectors for simulating enemies. There were weight racks that adjusted resistance based on mutant strength.

Kakashi moved in front. The mutant kids had also gathered as it was believed they would learn something from him. About thirty children sat on the bleachers along one wall. They ranged from six years old to teenagers. Some had visible mutations.

Others looked completely normal until they used their powers. A girl made small sparks dance between her fingers. A boy levitated a water bottle above his head. They whispered to each other. They pointed. Their eyes were wide with curiosity and a little fear.

The X-Men took the front seats. Scott, Ororo, Logan, Jean, Kurt, Bobby, and Hank sat in a row. They watched Kakashi closely.

Some still looked wary after the fight. Others looked interested. They wanted to see what this stranger from another universe could teach them.

Kakashi did not like teaching. Not in his old world and not in the new world. If he was being honest, he was quite a bad teacher, considering what happened to Sasuke.

He remembered those days clearly. Sasuke had been talented. Driven. Hungry for power. Kakashi had tried to guide him. He had given him missions. He had taught him techniques. He had tried to show him the value of teamwork and loyalty.

But he had never pushed Sasuke hard enough. He had never given him the level of training Sasuke craved. Sasuke had wanted more. He wanted faster progress and stronger jutsu.

Kakashi had held back. He had thought balance and teamwork was more important than raw power. That mistake had cost them everything. Sasuke had left the village. He had gone to Orochimaru for power. He had walked a dark path. Kakashi had blamed himself for years. He still did sometimes.

'Sasuke would have never abandoned the village if I could have trained him to a level that would have been satisfactory for him,' Kakashi thought.

'He would have never gone to Orochimaru for more power then. But I guess it turned out just fine in the end so I do not really have any regrets.'

The war had changed everything. Sasuke had come back. He had fought beside Naruto. He had helped save the world.

Kakashi had learned from his failure. He had learned that sometimes students needed to be pushed. Sometimes they needed to face hard truths. Sometimes they needed a teacher who would not hold back.

'I wonder what they are doing,' Kakashi thought about his students. 'Naruto should have become Hokage and with Sakura and Sasuke along with the others supporting him, he should be fine.' He pictured Naruto sitting in the Hokage office.

Probably complaining about paperwork just like Lady Tsunade or Lord Third. Probably sneaking out to eat ramen. Probably grinning like an idiot while the village prospered under his leadership.

Sakura would be a top medical ninja and keeping Naruto grounded. Sasuke would be somewhere on the borders. Protecting the village in his own quiet way. They were okay. They had each other. They had a future. That thought brought a small warmth to Kakashi's chest. He shook his head slightly and looked at the mutants in front of him. Time to focus.

Kakashi had accepted teaching the mutant kids as well as X-Men because it would give him more exposure to what other powers were out there in the wider multiverse.

This universe had new rules. New abilities. Mutants could do things he had never seen. Control weather. Read minds. Manipulate metal. Shift through space. If there were more trips to other realities, if incursions became common, he needed to understand what he might face.

He needed to know the limits. The strengths. The weaknesses. Teaching them would let him observe closely. He could see how far their powers stretched. How creative they could be. How dangerous they could become. Knowledge was power. And right now, knowledge could mean survival.

He hoped that this was just a one-off thing of visiting another universe. The idea of jumping between realities regularly made his head hurt.

He had enough problems in one world. Adding infinite others felt like asking for trouble. But he had learned long ago that hope was not a plan. If more incursions came, if more threats crossed over, he would be ready. Or at least he would try. Preparing now was better than being caught off guard later.

But if there were other such times, he needed to know what he could expect to face and be prepared for it. He also wanted the other Avengers to be prepared for it.

Tony and Bruce could analyze mutant powers through science. The more they understood, the better they could protect Earth.

One such instance was now. He would have never imagined that there was someone with powers to alter reality itself. And here there was such a person. Wanda. A girl who could change the world with a thought.

Such a person could kill him in countless ways. Turn his weapons against him. Trap him in illusions. Erase him from existence. Rewrite the rules so his Sharingan did not work.

The possibilities were endless and terrifying. He needed to know how to fight that kind of power and know its limits. He needed to know how to stop it.

"So how are we going to do this?" Kakashi asked.
