Chapter 198 - Chapter 198: Too Headstrong

After Mega Aggron heavily damaged Emboar with Double-Edge, it immediately followed up with a Flash Cannon aimed directly at its opponent.

Xiao Luoxue felt a wave of resentment. Was Jiang Chen trying to let her lose gracefully? This didn't feel graceful at all; it felt like a total blowout.

"Emboar, get out of the way, quickly!"

As a Fighting-type, Emboar might have been obese, but it was surprisingly agile essentially a nimble fat guy.

It successfully evaded the Flash Cannon, but Mega Aggron immediately charged again like an unstoppable tank. This time, it used Heavy Slam. This particular move relied on the user's weight; the heavier the Pokémon, the more devastating the impact.

Xiao Luoxue's heart tightened. "Can't dodge it?"

"Emboar, use Hyper Beam!"

She had no other choice. Emboar had already been severely injured by the initial collision, and dodging the Flash Cannon had pushed its agility to the limit. It truly couldn't avoid this Heavy Slam.

The Hyper Beam struck Emboar, but Mega Aggron simply tanked the attack head-on, closing the distance without stopping. Even a move as powerful as Hyper Beam couldn't slow Mega Aggron's advance.

"Dodge it, Emboar!"

But it was far too late. Mega Aggron slammed into Emboar with the force of a mountain.

Boom!

Having already been battered by the previous Double-Edge, this final blow instantly knocked Emboar out of the fight.

"That thing is just too fierce," Xiao Luoxue muttered, her head beginning to ache.

It seemed that any Pokémon Jiang Chen touched could become incredibly powerful in a very short amount of time. It had only been a little over a month, yet his Mega Aggron already possessed the strength to crush her Emboar. The rate of improvement was simply absurd.

"Emboar is unable to battle. Please send out your next Pokémon," the referee reminded her.

"Come back, Emboar."

After recalling her Pokémon, Xiao Luoxue pulled another Poké Ball from her belt.

"Go, Garchomp!"

Aside from her Salamence, this was her strongest Pokémon. She was keeping Salamence as her ace in the hole, so Garchomp should be more than enough to handle Mega Aggron.

"Mega Aggron, use Heavy Slam again," Jiang Chen commanded.

"Don't be afraid of it! Garchomp, use Dragon Claw!" Xiao Luoxue shouted.

"Aren't you being a bit too reckless?" Jiang Chen couldn't help but comment when he saw the move.

Perhaps she thought that because Garchomp was at the Elite Four level, it could afford to be arrogant. However, a Mega Aggron using Heavy Slam could send even an Elite Four level Pokémon flying.

The two Pokémon collided, and Garchomp was indeed sent reeling backward. Compared to the massive frame of Mega Aggron, Garchomp's body seemed almost fragile. The result was exactly as Jiang Chen had predicted.

However, Garchomp's attack wasn't weak. It managed to knock Mega Aggron back as well, though the damage to the Steel-type was negligible. Aggron's physical defense was simply terrifying; it was only natural it could shrug off such a blow.

"Did I overestimate myself?" Xiao Luoxue asked Jiang Chen tentatively.

Jiang Chen rolled his eyes. "What do you think?"

Even if she believed Garchomp was stronger, trying to go toe-to-toe with Mega Aggron was foolish. It was playing directly into Aggron's greatest strength. Jiang Chen was tempted to call her "boneheaded."

"Garchomp, use Dragon Rage!" Xiao Luoxue quickly corrected her strategy.

There was no need for a head-on collision. Although Garchomp might eventually win through raw power, it would definitely sustain heavy injuries. Why be so stubborn when she could just target Mega Aggron's weaknesses?

If Mega Aggron had one glaring flaw, it was its speed. It was incredibly slow. Furthermore, its special defense wasn't nearly as high as its physical defense; it was quite average in that regard.

The Dragon Rage blasted Mega Aggron back. Xiao Luoxue then had her Garchomp follow up with Dragon Pulse and Hyper Beam. In short order, Mega Aggron was defeated. After that initial clash, Mega Aggron hadn't even managed to touch Garchomp again.

"The weakness is just too obvious," Jiang Chen said, shaking his head slightly.

While the weight-based power of Heavy Slam and Double-Edge was impressive, speed remained Mega Aggron's greatest liability. In the future, Jiang Chen knew he wouldn't deploy Aggron against highly agile opponents. However, in a raw contest of strength, as long as the power gap wasn't extreme, Aggron was practically invincible.

"I won!"

If it weren't for the massive crowd in the stands, Xiao Luoxue might have actually jumped for joy. She had to maintain her image, but her excitement was palpable.

"Go, Tyranitar."

After recalling Aggron, Jiang Chen released Tyranitar.

"Aren't you going to let your Garchomp Mega Evolve?" Jiang Chen asked.

"Of course I am."

She could afford to be a little arrogant against Aggron, but against Tyranitar, she knew Mega Evolution was mandatory.

Both Pokémon possessed the ability to Mega Evolve. Thus, two pseudo-legendaries underwent the transformation simultaneously.

"A battle between two Mega-Evolved pseudo-legendaries! This is a rare sight indeed. I wonder who will come out on top?" the announcer shouted, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

Even he had rarely seen a match featuring two Mega-Evolved pseudo-legendaries. The spectators looked on with pure envy. Pseudo-legendaries were beyond the reach of ordinary people, and Mega Stones were equally valuable especially those for pseudo-legendaries, which often cost as much as a high-tier Pokémon Egg.

"Mega Garchomp, use Dragon Tail!"

"Mega Tyranitar, use Ice Punch!"

The Dragon Tail struck Tyranitar, but because of its immense weight, the Rock-type wasn't pushed back at all. Seizing the opportunity, Mega Tyranitar landed an Ice Punch squarely on Mega Garchomp.

Ice-type moves dealt four times the damage to Mega Garchomp. The impact was far more devastating than the Dragon Tail had been to Tyranitar. Tyranitar's heavy armor made it nearly impervious to standard physical attacks.

"Such fast reactions," Xiao Luoxue whispered.

She had intended to use Garchomp's speed to hit and run, but she had underestimated Tyranitar's response time. While Tyranitar wasn't known for its speed, this was Jiang Chen's Tyranitar it was in a league of its own.

"Use Dragon Pulse!"

"Hyper Beam!"

Jiang Chen wasn't afraid of a ranged battle. In fact, at a distance, his Tyranitar was even more ferocious than Garchomp. Beams of Hyper Beam were fired in rapid succession, suppressing Mega Garchomp so heavily it couldn't even raise its head.

Garchomp was fast, but it couldn't dodge everything perfectly. Eventually, Tyranitar found an opening and landed a direct hit.

Boom!!!

A single Hyper Beam sent Mega Garchomp flying. Xiao Luoxue's Pokémon was in a desperate state. No sooner had it been hit by one beam than another followed immediately. Tyranitar was firing them as if they cost nothing.

Furthermore, Mega Tyranitar seemed completely unaffected by the usual side effects of Hyper Beam. Normally, Xiao Luoxue's Garchomp could overcome the recoil through sheer willpower, but it could never hope to spam the move endlessly like Jiang Chen's Tyranitar.

Hyper Beam was a move of immense power but equally immense consumption. Was Tyranitar simply ignoring the cost?

"Keep going! If we just hold on, we'll find a chance to win!" Xiao Luoxue cheered silently for her Garchomp.

However, her optimism faded quickly as Mega Tyranitar continued its relentless bombardment. Garchomp was being hit too many times. At this rate, Garchomp would collapse long before Tyranitar ran out of energy.

"Counterattack! Garchomp, find an opening and use Dragon Rush!"

Mega Garchomp searched for an opportunity. After taking another Hyper Beam, it finally spotted a flaw and lunged toward Tyranitar's flank.

Seeing the angle of the attack, Jiang Chen couldn't help but smirk. He knew that Tyranitar had left that opening on purpose. It was a deliberate bait.

Turning suddenly, Mega Tyranitar extended its powerful arms and tightly grappled the incoming Garchomp. Although the momentum of the Dragon Rush pushed them back quite a distance, Tyranitar refused to let go.

Once their momentum died down, Mega Tyranitar unhinged its massive jaws and lunged at the trapped Mega Garchomp with a savage Crunch.
