Chapter 247 - Chapter 247 – “The Shadow of Choice”

I. The Silence of Awakening

The figure that had appeared before Akihiko and Kaede vanished as quickly as it had come, leaving a strange, almost heavy , feeling in the air. Edenfall Square fell silent once more, but the echo of its words continued to resonate in Akihiko 's mind . "The Tree is just a door." That statement had left him with a feeling of emptiness , as if reality itself were being mocked by something he didn't yet understand.

Kaede watched him, noticing how Akihiko remained still, lost in thought , as if the figure's words were consuming him from within . She knew something had changed in him, something that could no longer be ignored. The presence of the shadows of the past continued to seep into the city, as if everything were connected by an invisible thread guiding them toward an uncertain fate.

— Akihiko, what are we going to do now? — asked Kaede, her voice soft but full of anxiety.

Akihiko didn't answer immediately. He gazed once more at the golden flower , the symbol of what Edenfall had been and now represented. The Tree had left its mark not only on the city , but on themselves , on their very souls. Although the city seemed quieter , Akihiko felt that everything was still stirring , as if something were about to awaken once more.

" We need to understand what that figure meant," Akihiko finally replied, his tone firm. "The Tree is only the beginning. Everything it has left behind, everything we have done… it cannot be resolved by our will. We must understand what is to come."

II. The Shadows of the Wind

As the hours passed, the wind in Edenfall grew more agitated . The city's shadows not only seemed denser , but they also began to shift , as if stretching and twisting . Akihiko and Kaede felt that something in the air had changed . As if the Tree's roots , though no longer visible, were still connected to the people, to the world.

In the distance, among the ruins near the Tree's cathedral , dark figures began to materialize, not tangibly, but as presences that seemed to form and vanish simultaneously. Akihiko couldn't ignore the feeling that these shadows weren't mere memories . They were entities born from the very essence of the Tree.

Kaede approached him, watching as his face darkened as he noticed the figures.

" Who are they? " Kaede asked, now feeling a growing unease .

Akihiko frowned, watching the shadowy figures slowly rising from the ruins. They weren't enemies , not in the traditional sense. They weren't forces of destruction , but presences that were waiting for something . Something Akihiko couldn't yet understand .

"They are not human," Akihiko thought, as he observed the figures . "They are vestiges, memories of the Tree. But they are not just echoes. They are something more."

One of the figures approached, without making a sound, but its presence was like a palpable emotion , a void that expanded around it.

"Akihiko Sora…" the figure said, its voice soft but laden with profound wisdom . "You are not the only one marked by the Tree. Every being in this world who has touched its essence carries a part of it within. And now, what was sealed away is returning to life."

Akihiko watched her, not letting his mind be affected by the words. He knew that what this figure was saying wasn't a simple warning , but a reminder . The Tree hadn't only affected Edenfall; it had left its mark on time , on the beings who had been close to it. It wasn't just a physical power . It was a mark , a legacy that now haunted all those who crossed its path .

" What does that mean?" Akihiko asked, unease beginning to creep into his voice.

The dark figure smiled slightly, as if it understood more than what it was saying .

" What you have awakened, Akihiko, is only a part of what the Tree has left behind. You cannot yet comprehend all of it. But something much deeper is coming. Something that neither you, nor those who follow, can stop."

III. The Revelation of Emptiness

As the dark figure vanished back into the shadows, Akihiko remained silent, staring at the spot where it had been standing. What did it mean? What was coming next ?

"What we've done isn't enough," Akihiko thought, feeling the emptiness inside him grow . The dark figure's words echoed in his mind: "What is sealed is coming back to life."What did he mean by that?

Kaede watched Akihiko, noticing how his expression grew darker . She knew something had changed within him . Although the Tree had been defeated, the presence of what it had left behind still lived on in his soul.

" Akihiko, we need to go see the others," Kaede said, breaking the silence. "They need to know what's going on, too."

Akihiko nodded, but his mind remained fixated on the shadows he had seen. The Tree wasn't just a power that had fallen . It was an idea that had touched everyone . And what was coming wasn't something that could be stopped by individual decisions alone. It was something much bigger, something they could only face together , as a city , as humanity .

"We'll face whatever comes," Akihiko thought, his gaze hardening. "But it won't be easy. None of this will be."

IV. Choosing the Path

As Akihiko and Kaede began to walk away from the ruins, the city continued to rebuild itself , but a sense of incompleteness still hung in the air. Edenfall might have appeared peaceful , but the fading shadows were anything but . They knew something was returning , something neither they nor the other inhabitants of the city could stop.

"We'll face whatever comes…" Akihiko thought, but he wasn't sure what that meant yet. "But what is coming? What are we waking up to?"
