The sun rose to a new day. Alex remained sitting next to Ragnar while he slept. His crimson pupils glowed as he watched over his brother like a hawk.
'I'll make sure, when I get that bastard, he screams in pain-'
A knock on the door shattered Alex's thought . He got up and walked towards the door then opened it.
His blood ran cold upon seeing who it was. The chief, Kazo Bravewing and his son Tez. Alex stared at Tez with bloodlust filled eyes.
Tez scoffed. " Don't look at me with those eyes, weakling. I'll boil you alive."
Alex stepped forward but was interrupted by a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see that it was his mother.
"Goodmorning chief. What brings you to my house so early in the morning?" she spoke politely.
The chief smirked, "may we sit down."
Alex's mother invited them both in and served them tea. They all sat in awkward silence as Kazo finished sipping his tea and placed the mug on the table.
"It has come to my attention that your son Ragnar had assaulted one of the other children and was punished by my son... " Kazo paused.
He stared into the pair's distraught eyes. He cleared his throat and continued.
"... I would punish him myself but that has already been taken care of. My son's actions were rash though he had no ill intent."
Alex slammed his fist onto the table in front of them.
"No ill intent. He nearly killed my brother. And you know damn well Ragnar would never do such a thing," Alex roared.
Kazo glanced at Alex. He immediately paused and sat back down with his armed crossed, visibly pissed off.
"Yes, and I know how bad it may seem so I have came with a compensation offer," Kazo then glanced at Alex's mother.
She glanced at her still angered son then back at Kazo.
"Thank you for your kindness, we will accept your offer," She then bowed down.
Alex gritted his teeth and refused to bow down. Kazo scoffed and got up, Tez followed suit.
"A week from now you, Ragnar, my son and seven other children will be sent to the draken academy. So it's best you learn to control that anger of yours and don't disappoint me nephew."
After he spoke those words they strolled out the house.
Alex's mother raised her head and then embraced Alex.
"You know he's trying to break us apart right?" Alex spoke, anger still lingering in his voice.
His mother started brushing his hair then kissed him on the forehead.
"I know sweety, but you don't have to worry about me."
_____________
For the entirety of the week, Alex remained restless. Then the day of departure arrived.
Alex, Ragnar and the other children waved the villages off as they enter the carriages special prepared by the Draken kingdom.
Alex stared out the window and saw Tez talking with his father before entering a carriage as well.
They set off towards the Draken kingdom. Alex glanced at the fleeting face of his mother once more.
'Please be careful mother.'
Ragnar saw Alex sulking as the village slowly faded into a distant memory.
"Don't worry too much elder brother, mother is capable of taking good care of herself," Ragnar reassured Alex.
Alex let out a heavy sigh then nodded. Ragnar's words provided him some comfort but unease still held his mind captive.
Alex couldn't help but stare blankly into the window beside him.
'I hope you are right Ragnar.'
