"Oh, Cutie," she sighed, relaxing slightly at the sight of the giant bear beastman. "You're back."
Cutie gave a low, rumbling grunt, nudging the woven basket of fresh blueberries closer to her on the table.
Veer crossed his arms, looking down at her expectantly. "You should eat something," he said smoothly. "You look hungry."
Kaya frowned, her eyebrows knitting together. Where the heck do I look hungry? she thought, mildly offended by the assumption.
But just as she was about to snap a sarcastic retort, the sweet, earthy smell of the fresh fruit hit her nose, and her stomach betrayed her with a loud, hollow rumble. She paused, staring at the berries. Well, you couldn't really argue with biology. If perfectly good food was sitting right in front of you after a long day of interrogating assassins, the only logical thing to do was shut up and eat it.
